We wanted to love this toy. The alphabet is not the same as the Ms. Rachel phonics song on YouTube. The voice is triggered by light, so if played in a low lit room, it doesn't really work. The color on the board is true to its photo online.

Such a bad design. The $10 giggle spaces are 100% then this trash. Each letter worked with every other letter slot making it pointless. Oh it always works if you just run your hand over it… don’t take the chance like I did

Very Disappointing
I ended up returning this puzzle as it did not work. When you put the letter piece in their spot it either did not make a sound or made a sound for another letter.

SKIP THIS ONE!
Skip this puzzle. We love Ms. Rachel and Melissa and Doug, but this puzzle is flawed. It has potential to be a great learning resource, but the team needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. $20 for a puzzle that may confuse my child is just not worth it. My 19-month-old knows the alphabet and letter sounds. I just wanted this for extra practice while he plays. 1. It will react to any letter that is moved in front of the light sensor. For example, if my 19-month-old is holding the letter R but places it on the Q light sensor, it will say “Q says.” I feel this can be confusing and misleading. 2. If the room is even slightly dimmed, the puzzle will not work. It needs very bright light to function properly. We thought the batteries we just put in had already stopped working. 3. The holes for the letters do not resemble the letters themselves. I feel this is a design flaw that should have been noticed. In other letter puzzles, the cutout matches the shape of the letter and is easily identifiable. The H on the Ms. Rachel puzzle is just a rectangle.

Read before buying
I wish the puzzle made sound when you put the pieces into it. Instead it’s only when you take the piece out. The puzzle is light activated, so if you’re on a dimly lit room or if you cast a shadow over another open piece it might play a completely different sound than you intended. It’s difficult to learn which letters make what sound. And it’s hard to tell which pieces go where. Under each letter, there is only a symbol to represent the letter. The toddler would have to be able to associate the letter with an object that starts with it. Not great for little ones just starting to learn their letters. Maybe better suited for a preschooler, but by then the toy might be too juvenile. In my opinion, it is just poorly designed overall. We have this sound puzzle and one with Miss Rachel characters. I won’t be buying any more of the Melissa and Doug music puzzles.

Puzzle is cute but…
The puzzle makes a sound when you take the letter out! I don’t under why it wasn’t made so that when the child puts the correct letter in, it makes a sound. Otherwise, it’s a very cute puzzle with Miss Rachel saying the letter and sound that that letter makes.

Pretty but not well designed
Beautiful but the letters aren’t cut to their shape so they’re more block-like which makes it’s harder for toddlers to place based on shape. And the audio doesn’t cut on when the letter is placed in the correct slot, but rather when the piece it’s close and then it cuts off, so it’s just awkward overall.

FYI I rate 1 star just because is required! Very disappointed it, when you put the letter the puzzle doesn't recognize the sound and says other sounds. My son loves Ms Rachel but this is not the Melissa and Doug quality puzzle.

Sound Doesn't Reinorce Letter Recognition
This is a cute puzzle, but it only says the letter and sound when removing the puzzle piece which doesn’t reinforce the letter names when the child puts in the piece correctly. I would not have purchased if I would have known that.

I really like the big letters! It's solidly built, too. My son likes how it's Ms. Rachel. I don't like that it only says the letter when you lift in it bright light. I wish it said the letter when you place it in the correct spot as well, or even if you press on the letter.
