OINTMENT VS CREAM - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
There are three main types of moisturizers: lotions, creams, and ointments. Generally speaking, lotions tend to be the most lightweight moisturizer option, followed by creams, and then ointments—which are usually the thickest and most occlusive. Many people with dry skin choose to include both creams and ointments in their skincare routine. For example, you can apply CeraVe Moisturizing Cream first to help relieve dry skin all over your face and body. Next, CeraVe Healing Ointment can be applied to help provide soothing benefits and targeted relief for chafed or cracked areas (such as chapped lips, cracked heels, and dry hands).

Great product! Works every bit as well as the kind in the tub. Protects without feeling greasy like some other ointments do. However, only get this if you have good hand strength to squeeze it out of the tube. If hand strength is a problem, you're better off with the tub. But this does give the same level of quality in a much more portable format.

I’ve been using CeraVe Healing Ointment, and it’s been great for dry, cracked skin, cuts, and minor burns. It’s fragrance-free, so it’s perfect for sensitive skin. The texture is thick but absorbs pretty well, leaving my skin feeling soft and moisturized without being too greasy. The packaging is simple and easy to use, whether you get the tube or jar. Overall, it’s been super reliable and effective for me.

I bought a tube of CereBe Healing Oil in December.. Tonight (August), I opened the tube and oil ran out - a lot of it! I do not know what would cause this as it has been stored in a climate controlled space. I was happy with the product until this happened.

Hello N22M! Thank you for sharing your experience with the Healing Ointment. We are truly sorry to hear about the issue you encountered with the product separating, especially after it had been stored carefully in a climate-controlled space. We understand how disappointing this must be, especially as you had been happy with the ointment previously. Our Healing Ointment is carefully formulated with a unique blend of petrolatum, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid to provide intense, long-lasting moisturization and help protect and restore the skin's barrier. While such occurrences of product separation are quite rare, the stability of our formulations is something we continuously monitor and refine. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, as it helps us to understand real-world experiences and uphold the high standards of quality and consistency you expect from CeraVe. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

This stuff is like bubble wrap for your face. It’s protective, cushiony, and ready to save the day. My chapped lips are fixed and my dry knuckles are saved. That random irritated patch that popped up out of nowhere is handled. It’s thick but not greasy-greasy, melts right in, and somehow makes my skin feel instantly calmer. No weird smell, no drama, just ceramides and hydration showing up like the loyal friends they are. Basically a security blanket in a tube. If my skin could write thank-you notes, this would get one.
This ointment keeps your skin hydrated.

If I could give this more than five stars, I would. The CeraVe Healing Ointment has become an absolute staple in my routine — and honestly, I recommend it to everyone. Packaging: Clean, clinical, and practical. Whether you get the squeeze tube or the big tub, it’s easy to use and great for at-home or on-the-go. I personally love the tube version for its convenience and mess-free application. Texture & Scent: It’s rich and thick, but spreads easily and melts into the skin. Yes, it’s occlusive — but it’s not sticky or heavy like old-school petroleum jellies. It’s fragrance-free, which is a huge win if you’re sensitive or using it on irritated skin, lips, or even baby-safe spots. Ingredients: This stuff is packed with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and petrolatum (the good kind!). It’s designed to restore your skin barrier and protect moisture — and it delivers. I’ve used it on dry hands, cracked cuticles, post-retinol irritation, lips, even healing tattoos. It does it all. Price: Affordable and accessible — especially considering how multi-use it is. A little goes a long way, so the tube lasts forever. My Love for It: I truly don’t go a day without using this. It’s the final step in my nighttime skincare routine, a must-have for cold weather, and the best “slugging” product out there if you’re dealing with compromised skin. It’s dermatologist-recommended for a reason — and now I’m recommending it too. CeraVe Healing Ointment is incredibly effective — it locks in moisture, soothes irritation instantly, and helps visibly restore the skin barrier within just a few uses. If you’re looking for something to heal, protect, and deeply hydrate — this is your holy grail.

I’ve been using CeraVe Healing Ointment at night for the past five years, and it’s still a staple in my skincare routine. It works wonders for sealing in moisture and calming any irritation, especially during colder months or after using active ingredients. The effectiveness is unmatched—it hydrates, soothes, and protects without clogging my pores or causing breakouts. One of the best things about it is the texture. It’s rich and balmy but surprisingly lightweight. It melts into the skin and doesn’t leave behind that heavy, greasy feel that most ointments do. I wake up with soft, calm skin every time. It’s made with skin-loving ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid, which help restore and protect the skin barrier. The scent is basically non-existent, which I love—perfect for sensitive skin. The packaging is clean and practical. I’ve used both the tube and jar versions, and I appreciate that they offer options depending on how much you need. If you’re looking for a reliable, no-fuss product to lock in moisture and give your skin some TLC, this is definitely one to keep on hand.

For a long time this product wasn’t widely sold in Canada. I watched YouTubers constantly rave about this as a multi-purpose protectant for lips, hands, feet, scrapes, etc. so when it finally started showing up on shelves, I was excited to buy it, even though it’s about 6x the cost of regular Vaseline. I’ve used Vaseline on my hands for a few years to deal with constant peeling skin around my nails. My first impression was very positive. It melted into the skin so much nicer than Vaseline. Within about 20-30 minutes, I didn’t have greasy fingers. I was like “wow I can see why this is so well-liked, and why people pay more for it”. But then over the next few days I noticed that it doesn’t really have any of the benefit that Vaseline does. At least for my particular use case. It does not prevent the skin peeling around my nails the way Vaseline does. So while I love that it has ceramides and other beneficial ingredients, and I love the way it feels compared to Vaseline, it just doesn’t hit the same level of thickness/occlusion, which is the only reason I, personally, would use this product. So I probably won’t repurchase. But if you’re just looking for a well-formulated, light petrolatum based ointment, this would probably be great.

I’ve always had oily, acne-prone skin, but after giving birth, I developed patches of eczema under my nose, on my lower cheeks, and around my mouth and chin. Regular moisturizers wouldn’t treat it, so I recently purchased this healing ointment in the 5 ounce squeeze tube since I’m a fan of CeraVe products and it’s recommended for eczema. It did not disappoint! The ointment totally covers and moisturizes my flakey skin! A little goes a long way; it feels a little greasy at first, but once it soaks into your skin, it just feels smooth and hydrated. It’s like a cross between Vaseline and Neosporin. This tube will last me many months! I have sensitive skin and this product caused me zero irritation. I’m sure being fragrance-free and dye-free plays a big part in that. 10/10 recommend for people with eczema!
