Book Synopsis

Twin sisters Neecy and Nay Nay use their green thumbs to plant a garden in this hilarious, heartwarming chapter book series celebrating Black joy, sisterhood, family, and friendship.

When Big Mama is chosen to run Franklin Hills's community garden, Neecy and Nay Nay put themselves in charge of their very own kids' garden! They're going to learn all about gardening, including weeding, planting, composting, and taking care of the living creatures in the soil. But nothing seems to be going their way! Even worse, their interest in studying worms gets them into a squiggly situation after hundreds of them spill all over their bedroom. Big Mama wants the worms gone! Will the twins be able to take care of their worms and their garden?

About the Author

Simone Dankenbring (Author)
Simone Dankenbring has lived all of her life as an identical twin. Her adventures from childhood are the backdrop of the Neecy and Nay Nay series. Simone lives in Sweet Home, Oregon with her husband/pastor, Jeff, and her two adorable dogs, Bo and Zoie. Her works have been published in magazines and online publications.

Syrone Harvey (Author)
Syrone Harvey, the youngest of the twin collab team, draws from her eclectic publishing experience and hilarious childhood memories. Her creative ideas come from her quirky imagination, fueled by jawbreakers and Jelly Bellys. Syrone lives in Southern California with her husband, Michael, a chatty parrot named Alex, and Kody, a lively rescue furbaby.

Maya Henderson (Illustrator)
Maya Henderson is an author-illustrator from rural New York who loves creating stories that are funny, heartfelt, and relatable. She received her BFA in illustration with a sequential arts minor from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Her work has previously been featured online in the New Yorker and she is excited to bring her unique sense of humor into children's publishing. While she primarily works digitally, Maya also enjoys using analog media such as pens, pencils, and highlighters to draw diary comics based on funny, everyday experiences. When she isn't creating, Maya spends her free time hanging out with her two naughty cats, Doobie and Dori, cooking Pinterest recipes, and overanalyzing her favorite graphic novels.
