Q: If this is for babies, will it burn their eyes? I see nothing about it being tear free.

submitted by Cheryl S - 3 years ago
  • A: Hey Cheryl S, Great question! The Dr. Bronner's Organic Baby Sugar soap does not claim tear free. However, it is safe for all ages! For all your future beauty questions, get real-time answers using the “Chat with a Virtual Beauty Consultant” button, found on every product page.

  • A: While our Baby Unscented Organic Sugar Soap is gentle enough to wash the skin and hair of babies and children as it contains no essential oils and almost double the normal amount of olive oil, please note that our soaps are not "tear free." The “tear free" characteristic can only be achieved with synthetic non-soap detergents and is not something we're able to do given the all-natural formulation of our soaps. As it is the nature of soap to irritate the eye upon contact, we have a statement on the bottle to keep the soap away from the eyes, and we do not market them as "Tear Free."

Q: Would this need to be diluted like the other Castile one?

submitted by Gray - 16 days ago
  • A: Hi, thank you for reaching out and sharing your interest in our Organic Sugar Soap! While our Sugar Soap can be diluted and used in a foaming dispenser, we generally don't recommend it. This mostly comes down to our Sugar Soap not being as fluid or concentrated as our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps, which can lead to a significantly decreased shelf life and/or issues with the pump. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Q: What is the sucrose (first ingredient) derived from?

submitted by nl - 30 days ago
  • A: Hi, thank you for reaching out to us at Dr. Bronner's! The sucrose used in our Sugar and Shave soaps is sourced from Organic and Fair Trade non-GMO Cane Sugar grown in Brazil. Cane Sugar is considered a sucrose- which is made up of a glucose molecule and a fructose molecule. So essentially, Cane Sugar is 50% fructose if we are getting technical. Sucrose (sugar) keeps the soaps from congealing and helps moisturize the skin. Sugar is a humectant, which means it draws water into the skin and keeps your skin nourished, hydrated, and smooth. Sugar also functions as a natural exfoliant. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us!

Q: What is the current pump style for this bottle? When I ordered in November the pump was very short with a rough screw-on part unlike previously when it was a taller pump and smooth screw-on which is much more preferred for shower use.

submitted by BY - 9 months ago
  • A: Hi, Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback! As of 2025, we updated the design of our pumps for our Sugar Soap bottles specifically to make it easier for customers to use the locking mechanism after receiving feedback about how difficult it was to lock previously. However, we will gladly pass along your suggestion to our product development team. Perhaps we can offer another pump style in the future! Thanks again for taking the time to connect with us. All the best and All-One!

Q: Is this as concentrated as other Dr Bronner soaps ?

submitted by JJ - 2 years ago
  • A: Thank you for taking interest in our Sugar Soaps! While our Organic Sugar Soaps are just as effective as our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps, they have some key differences. Please note that this soap is as concentrated as our Castile Soap. Our Organic Sugar Soap is specifically intended for use on the body. The first ingredient in our Sugar Soap is organic sucrose, which is a natural humectant that draws moisture into the skin and hair. As a result, our Sugar Soaps tend to be a bit more hydrating than our classic Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps. The Sugar Soaps also contain shikakai powder, used in India for centuries as a gentle conditioner for skin and hair, making our Organic Sugar Soaps ideal for washing hair (remember to use an acidic conditioning rinse). On the other hand, our classic Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps are extremely versatile and can be used to clean dozens of different things: body, laundry, dishes, floors, pets, countertops, etc. You can find a variety of uses in the FAQ section of our website or by checking out Lisa Bronner’s amazing dilution guide: https://www.lisabronner.com/dilutions-cheat-sheet-for-dr-bronners-castile-soap/ Though both soaps work very well to clean your body and hair, our Sugar Soap offers a more moisturizing experience, while our Pure-Castile Soap offers expansive versatility. For more on the differences and similarities between our Liquid Castile and Sugar Soaps, we recommend heading over to Lisa Bronner’s post Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile vs. Sugar Soaps: https://www.lisabronner.com/dr-bronners-pure-castile-vs-shikakai-soaps/

Using for baby/toddler for 2 years now

Love the clean ingredients. I have been using this for my sensitive skin child since since she was a few weeks old. She has allergies and got hives to most "clean" ingredient soaps. Have not had any issues with this one. Recommend 10/10. I will note that this is not the soap you want to get in your eye so use carefully around little ones.

Watery, but moisturizing and works well.

Thinner consistency than expected, but it's more hydrating than the bar soaps or other liquid soap which I appreciate. Has a very subtle sweet scent and lathers nicely. I use it as hand soap in the bathroom.

Best Soap We Have Ever Used

One of the best natural soaps we have ever found/used. A great product and highly effective. The fact that it is made with healthy ingredients is a huge bonus! We really enjoy all of Dr. Bronner's products.

the *BEST* soap for dry hands

I've been using this soap for at least a decade and find it most valuable during the cold seasons when the weather and heat make my hands painfully dry. Of the many (many) moisturizing soaps I've tried, Dr. Bronner's unscented sugar soap is the best by far. It is gentle and helps combat the damage. I'm so very grateful it exists. If you have dry hands/skin, highly recommend!

A clean soap - though not great for my dry skin

I generally love Dr. Bronner’s products, and their Sugar Soaps are no exception when it comes to quality and ingredients. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work well for my dry and sensitive skin. After a few uses, my skin started to feel tight and developed dry patches, and it even became a bit itchy. It might be due to the hard water in the city where I live, but for me the formula ended up being more drying than expected. While it didn’t suit my skin type, I still think it could be a great choice for those with normal or less sensitive skin.

Stains and skin irritant

Stick with the regular unscented version. I purchased the unscented version of this soap 8 months or so ago and wanted to fully use before writing this review. Made the mistake of buying the large bottle before trying it out. Similar to other lower reviews it leaves a stain on the bath tub and overtime clogs the sink and bath tub. Unlike the regular unscented version my skin does not agree with this soap. I randomly developed pimples. Not sure if the sugar clogs pores but I stopped using about a month ago and the pimples are gone.
