Formula Change, New but definitely not improved.
I used to really love this product. It worked amazing for my eczema and honestly felt better than Vaseline or Aquaphor. I swore this was my holy grail. I would buy a bottle every 2 months because of my severe eczema and relied on it constantly. But with the new formula, I don’t feel the same at all. It feels waxy and just not great. I used it right after a shower on clean, slightly damp skin, and immediately noticed the difference with the new bottle I bought. I’m really disappointed in this change. It doesn’t seem like what people wanted, and it’s honestly causing the opposite reaction of what it’s supposed to do. Now I’m going to have to find an alternative, and unfortunately they’ve lost a loyal customer.

Works great
This stuff really does the trick. It’s thick but not too thick where it feels heavy and oily. It helps heal dry and irritated skin without any issues. Last All day

Huge disappointment with the change in formula
I have used the healing ointment for years and absolutely loved the old formula. I just bought a new tub of the new and improved version and I cannot use it anymore. It is so sticky and doesn’t dissolve in the skin as easily as the original. I had to return the tub and will have to find a substitute. I use your facial cleansers and other products, but this one no longer works for me.

A thick, long-lasting ointment that locks in moist
A soothing and protective ointment that deeply hydrates dry cracked skin without greasy. The packaging usually comes in a jar with a screw on lid.

Bad improvement
I have used this product for years to help with chafing around my panty line. Loved it! However, the “new & improved” formula is not good at all. Felt very stiff & waxy & felt like I needed to use twice as much to feel the relief. Sad as I REALLY liked this product for years.thinking I may need to switch to Aquaphor. Wish you did not need to feel a need to improve it—you just list a customer.

Hi there! Thank you for being a loyal CeraVe user for so many years! We’re saddened to hear the Healing Ointment isn't providing the same relief as before. Our goal in any formula refinement is to enhance the user experience while staying true to our core mission of supporting the skin’s natural barrier with dermatologist-developed ingredients. The current formula continues to feature 45% petrolatum alongside our signature three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid to provide a protective, lanolin-free shield for the skin. A helpful tip to maximize the soothing benefits is to apply the ointment to clean, slightly damp skin, which allows the petrolatum to more effectively seal in moisture for a soft and protected feel. We value your loyalty to the brand and take your feedback regarding these changes to heart as we continue to provide essential care for all skin types.

Best ointment
This is the ointment i chose to put on my skin the first time i did my tattoo, it did wonders, keeps my tattoo moisturize and soft, i didn’t even had peeled skin. Love this also for my hands when i get eczema it will help heal faster. Doesn’t smell like anything to me and it kind of oily but i don’t mind

Formulated for hydration
This healing ointment has the texture of Vaseline. But this ointment is specifically designed for cracked and chafed skin. This pairs perfectly with someone who has eczema. It is odorless but leaves your skin hydrated.

"New but not improved"
I cannot believe you changed the ingredients. "New and improved" is anything but that. This is the only product other than Vaseline that worked for my skin. Guess I will be saving a ton by no longer purchasing your products.

A Barista's Best Friend
My hands become extremely dry and cracked from the hot products I'm working with throughout the day, and have become true working hands. I've been trying to find a product to alleviate this for years and have tried everything under the sun. After a week or so of using this at night, my hands are no longer cracking. They look visibly younger, smoother, and more plump. I've tried vaseline in the past, and it doesn't compare. Thank you, CeraVe!

Reliable Relief
Im long time sufferer of ecxema and severely dry skin especially in the winter..my skin feels like it shrinks too small for my body..Your products are the only reliable relief ive ever known.. deeply moisturizing and soothing especially on the those itchy patches..Also I recently tried cereve cleansing balm just because and it worked beautifully at a gentle price point too.. i had tried all the high end brands such as elemis and clarins but those left residue ..Cereve took everything off including stubborn mascara—!!! Thank goodness there are proper products that not only do the job but are reasonably priced..

My Winter Skin Savior for a Busy Toddler
As a parent of a 14-month-old, his skin is likely transitioning to “baby soft” to “toddler tough” as he explores more, and this weather can be brutal for that delicate barrier. I started using CeraVe Healing Ointment and it has been a complete game-changer for his skin texture. It’s the only thing that has consistently kept my son’s skin soft and protected.

New formula causing skin irritation and stinging
The new formulation as of Feb 2026 is very different from the previous version. I opened the tub I bought, put a layer of ointment on my hands which only were mildly dry and not especially irritated, and my skin started stinging and turning red almost immediately. I washed it off, but it took a few hours for my skin to calm down. It might be because or the addition of benzoic acid to this product - I did a little digging and learned it can cause irritation for some people if their skin barrier is damaged. Bad news for a product that is supposed to be formulated to soothe damaged skin.

Much better texture of ointment than other brands!
This is the only ointment I will use. I've tried Vaseline and Aquaphor, but those are both extremely greasy. I much prefer the texture of CeraVe Healing Ointment. Yes, it's a bit greasy, but I'm not rating it down for that, because any ointment will be. That's simply part of being an *ointment* rather than a cream or lotion. And for those who are upset because this ointment is more greasy than a cream or lotion, perhaps go read CeraVe's article about the differences between those three things. This has helped heal dry cracked skin that no other ointment has, and I plan to keep it on hand from now on!

I don't recommend
I don't recommend. I laughed at the non greasy feel...This is like putting Vaseline on your skin. It does not rub in, it stays on top of your skin and makes everything you touch greasy.

Hello Kim29! We understand your frustration and appreciate your honest feedback regarding the texture of our Healing Ointment, as we know the initial feel can be quite different from our standard lotions and creams. This formula is an anhydrous ointment specifically designed with petrolatum and three essential ceramides to provide an intensive, occlusive barrier that helps protect the skin from external irritants and locks in moisture. The "non-greasy feel" we mention refers to the final finish after the product has been absorbed, although we realize it can feel quite substantial during the initial application. A helpful tip to improve your experience is to use a very small, thin layer on only the most vulnerable or cracked areas of skin, allowing it to act as a focused protective barrier rather than a full-body application. This ensures your skin receives the restorative benefits of the ceramides while keeping your clothes and belongings clean and comfortable throughout the day.

Everyday Essential!
I recently started using this product and was honestly surprised by how well it works. I’ve applied it to cracked lips and even my heels, and my skin stays moisturized throughout the entire day. The texture is thick, but that’s expected from a product that’s so moisturizing. It’s become an essential part of my everyday routine, and I reach for it whenever my skin needs extra care.

Super hydrator
I love this ointment! Any time my skin freaks out, or whenever I need extra moisture I add this ointment to my routine. Lately I have been using this product specifically in dry patch areas on my face after moisturizer or before makeup, including my under eyes and it has made a major difference. In years past I used it with a spolly to hydrate my eyebrow area in the winter. I have also used it in my scar healing journey for surgeries and deep cuts. If this product is leaving your skin sticky ot oily, try using less or further rub in to your skin. I will note that I've had this tub for years and just started to notice my dent in it a couple of months ago.
