Brought this, tried to use it the same night. Halfway thru cook time it stopped working. It also took almost 2 hours to actually heat up. The $20 price point should have shun me away but I thought it would be atleast somewhat okay for small needs.

Hello! Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your Crock-Pot 4.5qt Slow Cooker is taking longer than expected to heat. Slow cookers are designed to gradually build heat to ensure even cooking, but if it feels unusually slow, it may help to: Tips: 1. Always start with room-temperature or slightly warm ingredients. 2. Avoid overfilling, as this can extend heating time. 3. Try preheating the Crock-Pot on the “High” setting for 20–30 minutes before adding food. If the issue persists, we recommend reaching out to our customer care team for troubleshooting or warranty support. For further questions or inquiries, you may also visit our contact us web form. On the Coleman website, select "contact us" from the drop-down menu after clicking the question mark logo in the top right corner, which will direct you to our contact web form. Have a nice day! I thought I’d get lucky. Because at this price point, why wouldn’t you give it a shot? Well, it turned out to be a complete waste of time! My unit didn’t power on at all. There’s no indicator light, so you couldn’t tell if it was on, but it produced no heat. I had it on high for an hour and the base plate was still cool to the touch. On top of that, when I turned it down to low, the knob fell off!!! I’m so disappointed in this product. But I should’ve heeded caution to the plethora of negative reviews on this already. Don’t be like me - pass this one up.

I’ve been using this 4.5 qt Crock-Pot for a few weeks and it’s the perfect size for small families or meal prep for two people. It heats evenly, cooks stews and chili beautifully, and keeps food warm without burning. Cleanup is easy since the insert is removable and dishwasher safe. The size is great—not too bulky but big enough for a whole chicken or a batch of soup. Definitely recommend if you want something reliable and simple to use.”

This crock pot worked well for a long time, but eventually, the knob became loose. As a result, it either stopped heating or heated to the wrong temperature.

It’s as easy to use as a microwave dinner and brings a sense of delicious nostalgia into my home. I can set the pot and run errands without worry! My mother could feed a family of six out of one crock pot (barring a side or two) and my wife and I use it to portion for just the two of us. Very simple and versatile!

It's been two hours and the food inside is not even warm ( soup ) but the outside burned the crap out of me. I've never had a slow cooler get this hot. My fingers are blistered. I don't trust this thing when I am not home. I recycled the box so I don't think I can return it. I am cutting the cord off of it and throwing it away so no one else gets hurt.

Heats the sides of ceramic bowl but not the bottom

After about six months my spouse and I have stopped using our model SCR450-H-BR (marked on the bottom of the heating base) because it didn't give us the flexibility we were hoping for. We learned from our first few trials and then re-reading the manual carefully that this model is designed to work best when filled 1/2 way to 3/4 way full (2-3 qts by volume). The manual doesn't say what substance to fill to this level, but I would say it means full of liquid. Since the heating elements are not below the stoneware bowl -- they seem to be positioned around the sides of the ceramic bowl about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up -- a recipe that only sits in the bottom 1/3rd of the bowl does not transfer heat evenly. As a result we didn't get good results with recipes that start out somewhat dry but make more juice as they cook like some stews and roasts. We also didn't get good results with recipes having liquid levels smaller than about 2 qts. For example, a pot roast 2" thick should be covered with about another 2" of liquid to meet the 1/2 to 3/4 depth (the stoneware bowl is 5" deep). I'm not sure of the advantage of designing this model with the heating elements up so high, but this may be something that works well for others but not for us. I just think it's good to be aware for what you think you'll use it for. I'll be on the lookout for the placement of the heating elements in my next slow-cooker purchase.

I thought maybe I wasn't using it right, and so I missed the return window. My old crockpot was wonderful, could cook a pot of beans by soaking overnight and cooking all day. This one literally takes 2-3 days to cook a pot of beans. Low powered waste of time.
1 reply from CrockPot Support Team team - 2 months ago
Hello Amy! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience — we're truly sorry to hear this model hasn’t met your expectations, especially compared to your previous Crock-Pot. What you’ve described isn't typical. While cook times can vary slightly based on ingredient type, water level, and altitude, needing 2–3 days to cook beans is definitely not normal. We’d like to help troubleshoot a few possibilities: 1. Tips to try next time: 2. Make sure the ceramic insert is fully seated in the base. 3. Always cook with the lid on tightly and avoid lifting it during cooking (this releases valuable heat). Try starting beans on the High setting for the first 1–2 hours to help them reach a safe cooking temperature, then reduce to Low if needed. For dried beans, even after soaking, older beans or hard water can lengthen cook times significantly. That said, this shouldn’t happen every time, and it may be worth checking whether the heating element is functioning correctly. If you'd like to share a photo of the base plate or where/when you purchased the unit, we’d be happy to investigate further. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via our official support page or LiveChat. We’re available Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM ET. We want to make things right and help you enjoy slow cooking again. Have a great day! CrockPot Consumer Care

It works perfectly and has lasted me a long time! It’s the simplest easy dinner hack. Throw a few things in, leave for work, and come home to a delicious meal! Cleaning it is straight forward, I just let it soak with some soap and water overnight and rinse it out in the morning.
