submitted byBeenthere216 - 2 years agoA: Best to use stove pan for searing BC you need to sear most meat to lock in flavor & juices. So, the ceramic insert is for "slow" cooking. Tip: They make slow cooking inserts to save cleaning!

Call Crockpot, they sent me an another one—/ still the same problem, that is all they would do for me. crockpot told me to throw it out. Brand new, I only tested it with water, failed. They have done revisions on this protect , stop selling broken item . Not safe , you can get food poisoning, why tell everyone to brown /cook their meat first, — because it doesn’t work. A: This is a round crock pot the width and depth are different because the WIDTH INCLUDES THE HANDLES... luv this lil crockpot.

Q: Can I use the pot to cook on the stove top before slow cooking?
A: No. You will need to brown in a skillet before putting it into the liner pot.

Q: How does ceramic wash as opposed to stoneware
A: I am not sure about stoneware but I have always found the crock pot liners easy to clean.

The glaze is covered over the pot, fired at high temperature to melt the glaze and then cooled down. Q: I have a 6 quart crock pot and whether I choose low or high, the food is always overcooked. I cook for myself so maybe I'm not putting enough food in? What size would you recommend for one person that would generate 4-5 portions?

submitted byCrockPot Support Team - 5 years agoBrand expertA: Crock-Pot has dramatically increased the temperature of the heating element from what it was years ago, presumably due to worries about food-borne illness. It is very difficult to cook properly with modern slow cookers. I would recommend you scour garage sales for older models, which cook much more reliably.
submitted byDyann B - 5 years agoA: All my Crockpots over the past 5-10 yr have overheated, no matter what the setting. Last time I did 2 roasts, should have taken 8 hr on low. At 5 hr, it was actually boiling, and the meat was overdone

Q: Can I place the ceramic insert model SCR450-S directly on my gas stove to cook food in outside of the slow cooker? I understand I can place in oven and microwave but how about on flames?

Q: How will I know if the crockpot is on? This particular one does not have any light to indicate it.
A: Look at the knob to verify the setting. I cook most of my food on low and never turn the knob off.

A: Nope, this crock pot is manual. You will have to turn it on & off manually.

This manual slow cooker does not have a timer and cannot be set to turn off automatically. Once you turn the slow cooker on, it stays on until you shut it off.
