A: The Ghirardelli cocoa powder can be used for a hot chocolate beverage. We recommend mixing a 70/30 ratio of sugar to cocoa powder and adding 6-8oz of milk per serving.

A: “Ghirardelli claims that the conditions on the farms and the programs administered are 'better than certification'. However the program lacks one of the very tenets of Fair Trade – independent monitoring by a certifying body that measures against universal standards.” It does not have the Fair Trade mark on the package.

A: The Ghirardelli 8oz cocoa powder pouches have the lot code and best before date stamped under the Ziploc closure on the back of the package.

A: The process used for this baking cocoa is alkalized.

A: It is not alkalized or dutch processed. It says non-alkalized in the label info section.

A: As of January 1, 2023, the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard requires disclosure of bioengineered (BE) food ingredients on labels. We are pleased to confirm that Ghirardelli chocolate and cocoa powders (excluding baking mixes and sauces) do not contain bioengineered ingredients and are not required to be labeled as such.

A: The caffeine content in our 100% Unsweetened Cocoa powder is 3mg per serving.

While some of our premium chocolate products do contain gluten, either as a cereal ingredient or barley component, we also offer a selection of chocolates without the gluten-containing ingredients, making them a wonderful option for those with dietary restrictions. A: The best before date can be found on the back of the bag. You will see a letter followed by a series of numbers. Example: “P” 4563H21 123124. P4563H21 is the manufactures lot code, 123124 would be the best before date. In this case it would be December 31, 2024. Unfortunately, without the lot code we have no way of looking up the best before date.
