A: The instant pot and all pressure cookers use steam to create the pressure. They require water to create steam that pressurizes in the pot. We use combinations of techniques to have browned meat when pressure cooking. The most common is to brown the seasoned meat on sauté in the Instant Pot, deglaze the pan, and ad the water and other ingredients. You can use the pot on the sauté setting without water and the lid to brown meat, sous vide setting and place the meat in a sealed bag to cook in water without steaming. After pressure cooking or sous vide, you can brown in an oven, on the stove, or, after dumping water and cleaning pot, on sauté in the instant pot. You can use the covered pot-in-pot method while pressure cooking so the meat isn’t boiled and is less steamed. Or you can separately purchase an electric roaster that doesn’t use pressure.

Worth the money.
I love how quickly it heats up. The extra wide cooking area is fabulous. This is much easier to close the lid vs the duo. The sliding pressure release is much safer to use. I also like the cover on the pressure relief valve. I also like that it had an extra silicon ring. Well worth the price.

Quit working properly in less than a year Something is wrong with it to where it will burn almost anything you pressure cook with plenty of liquid in it Ran the test they told me said it wasn't working properly Was just told to buy a new one

Great device, no manufacturer support
Love this cooker, but it DOES require some different methodologies. Yet there doesn't seem to be any documentation or even recipes. Some functions run differently than other Instant Pots - yogurt, for example. Great cooker, as I mentioned, but the manufacturer could do a MUCH better job of supporting it. They just aren't there.

Love this product!
I'm so impressed with the stainless steel in our liner. It's actually a real stainless steel pan. Soak it for a few minutes it cleans so easily. I made rice and chicken came out perfectly. I rate this as a 10 out of 10!

I bought this Multi cooker 5 days ago and made collar greens in it. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. I would buy more products if I needed it. I read some reviews about there being no replacement parts available. Well problem solved. I found ALL parts on Amazon. There is even an 11-piece set that includes the silicone sealing ring, steam release valve, condensation cup etc. And it is affordable. Hope this helps. I am satisfied so far. I will use it often to get the most out it.

Unusable out of the box and terrible customer care
I bought this Instant pot over two months ago and have been going back and forth with unresponsive customer care about an instant pot that did not work out of the box. After 3 weeks of getting them to recognize the problem they said they send a new one, and after three weeks of not receiving it they still do not reach out or respond. Will not be buying another one of these, just need my money back at this point.

Poor slow cooker function
It works fine as a pressure cooker but we have now tried to use as a slow cooker 3 times but it won't heat enough. We have set it to high and after 8 hrs, barely warm. Would return if it was closer to when I purchased it.

Great Product no Spares/Accessories
Bought last November to be a nice slow cooker replacement and the width fits more food comfortably making it work great for my family of 6 as it makes searing quicker than what we can do in my in laws 8qt and I find I can cook larger roasts than the 8 quart. Now for the bad as others have said there are no replacement parts or accessories other than the included trivet and the 2 included sealing rings. which makes the next problem even worse. about 3 months ago the opaque began not sealing properly at the start of a pressure cook so if I start a cook I literally have to watch the unit for first 10-20 min for escaping steam if I see it escaping I can go the very dangerous route of pressing the quick release and opening a closing the lid with pressure and it will reseat itself sometimes and show the pressure symbol immediately after closing. the Orange seal didn't have this problem but my ferrets got ahold of it and it is no more and there are no replacements.if and when instant pot actually starts supporting this product I will consider changing my review

Terrible customer service, no brand loyalty
There are no replacement parts available, and support will not do anything to help, even if it is a SAFETY issue. The handle of my lid completely shattered when I accidentally knocked it off the counter. I knew this was not covered under warranty, and asked how I could purchase a replacement. For a $200 unit, it would be absurd to repurchase the entire thing just because the handle broke. Because the handle is not functioning, it is absolutely a SAFETY hazard to take the lid off after use. There was nothing that support offered, and kept telling me a lid was not available, so zero consideration for the customer that spent money on your product. This lack of customer support makes me realize that they do not care about building brand loyalty. I will not be repurchasing from this company again.

Love the wider width and woks great. Only one small criticism. When making yogurt, the beep to let you know to start the second phase is almost inaudible. If you miss the window to start the fermentation process, you have to start all over again.

Why can't you make replacement pressure rings??
I does a good job of pressure-cooking. I would have considered a different model if I knew that replacement parts are not available. Many users suggest having several rings available for cooking different types of food and to prevent odor carry-over. But if my one pressure ring fails then the whole device is worthless. If Instant Pot is making liner pots and rings for new devices they should make some available to loyal customers.

I’ve been using instant pot for many years. I decided to try this one because I liked the shape. To my disappointment it kept venting steam out, I tried over and over to move the sealing ring to make sure it was positioned correctly. But the steam kept coming out.

Still no sealing rings available!
I'm only dropping a star because there are no replacement parts, including seals, available for this model yet, even though it was introduced last year. I have emailed customer service several times about this and just get a reponse that seals aren't available yet and they don't know when they will be. This was my first InstantPot, and I finally took the plunge a couple of months ago when I saw this wider option. It's easy to get into and fits larger cuts of meat, etc. Simple and straightforward operation. So far, I've only cooked ribs, but they came out great! I'd love to revise my review to 5 starts if, and when, parts are available. Eventually I'll need replacement sealing rings, even though it did come with 2. I would like to see more offerings in the wide format, assuming they produce parts too. Next time I'll check to make sure parts are available before I buy!

Holds 6 qts dry rice
Basic 7.5qt. Rio wide for $129. Plastic outer shellPressure valve knob different. Doesn't stick out of lid. Looking down the whole, pressurized is solid red, when pressure is completely released, looking down the whole the knob is still red but further down with a silver ring visualized. The more expensive one tells you when okay to lift lid on the display panel, if you want to spend more money. Fits 6 cups dry rice. (The reason for purchasing). Cord doesn't detach from the base like my 6qt instant pot does. Much heavier and widerPressure mode automatically high temperature. (Low medium high choice only available for non-pressure cooking, like sauté or slow cook.Nowhere in the description or in the user guide does it say how many cups of rice you can make in the 7.5qt. I reached out to Customer Care. They said around 14 to 15 cups of dry brown rice. They must of meant cooked rice. The pot holds 6 cups dry jasmine brown rice and mixed with beans and seasonings.

Not good for Yogurt.
I'm so disappointed in this Instant Pot, I bought it specifically to make yogurt. There is no customization with the yogurt preset which means I can't do the cold start method. And the pasteurizing doesn't always get the milk to 180 degrees, so I have to use sauté, but then I can't go back and ferment. I want to return the pot but I got rid of the packaging. Don't buy this pot if you want to use it for yogurt.
