Description
Cultivate a beautiful array of container plants with Miracle-Gro® Potting Mix. This potting soil mix Grows Plants Twice As Big!®* In addition, the added fertilizer feeds all types of container plants for up to 6 months. With this gardening product, you can expect more blooms for more color*. This container mix works best with outdoor container plants, including your favorite flowers, annuals, perennials, vegetables, and shrubs. To apply, select a pot with a drain hole. Fill the pot about 1/3 full with potting soil. Loosen the root ball of your plant and place it in the pot. Add more potting mix and press lightly to level. Water your plant and let it drain. For optimal results, refer to plant tags for specific sun and shade needs. Let mix dry to the touch between waterings; do not allow plants to sit in drainage water. To avoid soil compaction and replenish nutrients, all container plants should be repotted annually or as needed with fresh Miracle-Gro® Potting Mix. Q: Can leftover potting mix be saved and stored for months at a time?

A: I wouldn’t recommend it unless you can seal the bag very well. My bag was taped closed but somehow flies/ moths got in and were able to breed. I kept the bag rolled up and taped. It was also stored in an indoor utility closet. Soil definitely wasn’t dry but was infested in a months time.

A: No. The potting media used for orchids are chosen to imitate “life on a rainforest tree.” Most common types of orchid potting mix consist primarily of small pieces of fir bark that's main function is to stabilize the plant and promote root growth. We would recommend one of our two Miracle-Gro Orchid Potting Mix products, one that is a course blend and one a fine blend. While we do not sterilize the soil it is composted to kill any harmful insects and microbes. Unfortunately, soils may become infested with insects while in storage or while they are waiting for sale. In some cases, soils become infested with fungus gnats. Fungus gnats enter the bagged product through the tiny air holes in the bag that are necessary for the soil to "breathe". Fungus gnats are often mistaken for fruit flies. They do little damage but are unpleasant if present in large numbers. These insects do not feed upon plants, but lay their eggs in soil that contains organic matter. After a week the eggs hatch, and the larvae crawl through the upper layer of the soil. The larvae are white, 1/4 inch long, and have black heads. They feed on fungi that grow on organic matter. The larvae usually do not damage plants but, when present in large numbers, may feed on the roots of some plants, killing very young seedlings. The larvae feed for about 2 weeks before maturing into adults. There can be many generations in a single year. We want you to be confident in our products. I have always used Miracle gro potting soil so when I was starting a new container garden this year I bought 10 big bags. I found the consistency to be so much different than usual....it didn't look like potting soil. It had so much coconut fiber that has shown to be much less water retaining than usual and my self_watering pots ineffective.

I have been using Miracle Gro potting mix for my deck plants for years with great success. The bag I bought this year was nothing like prior purchases. It looked like medium fine mulch with small straw-like clumps. I should have returned it but foolishly used it. Plants are not doing well at all and when the soil dries out in the heat it gets rock hard. Very disappointed and will think twice before another purchase.

Yes I feed birds and have chippies but the growth is only in patio and hanging pots I’ve done with your dirt. I have store bought pots and they’re fine. Your product has definitely gone downhill. This was a great price for this product, and it the dirt was moist, not wet, but definitely felt fresh. Sometimes bags of potting mix can be dried out and feel stale (IYKYK). I would buy this potting mix from Target again.

I bought 2 bags of this for my outdoor pots, but I am very unhappy with quality of the potting soil. It is full of chunky wood pieces and my plants are not doing well in it at all! Past years the potting soil was much better quality. The promised grow 3x bigger plants are false. I had to give extra nutrients in order for them to thrive. What happened to the quality??

However, you shouldn't find large pieces of wood or bark. Most of our soils, especially our potting mixes and garden soils, are made from composted forest products. They contain very little, if any, actual soil. This is by design! Composted forest products offer several benefits: high organic content, reduced compaction, and improved aeration.
