Toothpaste constantly rolls down the toothbrush. The battery doesn’t stay charged longer than 5 days. The toothbrush doesn’t shut off after 2 minutes. I’ve had this toothbrush for 5 months and I’m switching to another brand.

I have had this oral b toothbrush for about a month, and I thought all was great. I felt like my teeth were cleaner, and it was much more gentle on my teeth. Until I noticed some black "stuff" in the brush base and I can't clean it. Now before you ask, I separate the toothbrush from the device after every brushing and let it dry. So not sure why it's already gross after barely a month of use. It seems poorly designed. The only reason why I even got a new toothbrush was because my old Oral-B had finally died after 10 years. Never had any mold in my old Oral-B. I'm pretty disappointed that I spent money on this.

We’re sorry to hear you’ve noticed a residue building up on your toothbrush. We have many quality checks in place to ensure only the best products reach you. Please know we understand this is unsightly but it is likely a buildup from regular use. Even if rinsed after each use, residual toothpaste can harden over time and form a residue on your toothbrush and the replacement head. This buildup may be colored depending on your toothpaste and water hardness. In either case, this substance is not harmful and can be removed with a thorough cleaning. So that we can help you further, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

This is my first electric toothbrush purchase after much research and I LOVE it! So much better than a manual tooth brush. It’s fun to have the app to see actual data (but I do not use it very much). Holds a charge for a really long time. And honestly it doesn’t get that dirty? Not sure why so many of the reviews mention mold. I am a bit of a messy brusher and I just wipe off extra tooth paste at the end and I have no issues with it getting gross. It would be nice if the IO3 did as much as the newer models- I was a bit mislead thinking that this one came with the ability to see if you are missing any teeth while brushing. But, it’s just a toothbrush! No need to get fancy. Would definitely recommend!
Terrible Design

I bought this toothbrush July, 2023 and am disappointed daily with this purchase. I follow all manufacturer's instructions and still have mildew accumulating on both the brush head and handle. The design does not allow for all parts to dry in between brushes. Even when I store my brush head completely separate from the handle (which is super difficult because of the angle of the head and no place on the charger to store the head) the brush somehow manages to grow mildew. It's just a terrible product for the price.

Don’t buy this! After a few months the unit gets full of mold/gross stuff and it’s not cleanable. Too late to return at that point
1 reply from Oral-B team - 2 months ago
We're disappointed to hear this, Mel. Please know we understand this is unsightly but it is likely a buildup from regular use. Even if rinsed after each use, residual toothpaste can harden over time and form a black, brown, orangish/tan, pink or grey, chalk-like coating on the metal shaft of the handle, the rubber, or in the joints and other places including on the charger. Toothpaste and/or water may also collect on the brush head, handle or on the surface of the charger, leaving a residue. This buildup may be colored depending on your toothpaste and water hardness. In either case, this substance is not harmful and can be removed with a thorough cleaning. To prevent this in the future do a thorough rinse following the recommendation in your manual. Including the handle and wiping the charger. If you have questions or would like to share more, give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

No matter what I do mold grows in the head attachment and handle. I rinse it out multiple times a week and let it air dry. I have been constantly congested and sick for months until I realized this was causing it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
1 reply from Oral-B team - 2 months ago
We're sorry to hear this. Due to the extensive quality tests our brushes undergo, this isn't something we'd expect. While we understand this is unsightly, what you're noticing is most likely a result of toothpaste residue buildup. To help with this, we have some tips we recommend giving a try: After brushing, thoroughly rinse the brush head while the toothbrush is switched on to minimize toothpaste residue remaining on the brush between uses. After rinsing, switch the brush off, remove the brush head from the handle, and clean both parts separately under running water. Wipe both handle and brush head dry (with a soft towel) . Note: especially when you live in a hard water area you are advised to wipe dry instead of leaving to air dry Leave both the handle and brush head to air dry further before putting the brush head and handle back together. When you put them back together, ensure the brush head is pushed fully onto the handle so there is no/little gap If necessary, it is OK to use a mild detergent/cleanser and water to clean the outside of the handle. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

I let my tooth brush head air dry off main body yet the head attachment part on the main body ALWAYS gets gross. I rinse it with hot hot water and turn it on under the water too and it still gets gross. Had this for over a year and my husband's had the same issue.

I bought this product about 6 months ago and I am extremely unhappy with it. If I could rate it a zero I would. I have to constantly keep removing the head to clean it out or black mold builds up over only a couple of days. The black mold is also stuck in the actual handle part of the toothbrush and It is next to impossible to clean out. I need to purchase a new electric toothbrush and do not trust oral B when I used to have an old one that I used for multiple years. No thanks.

We're sorry to hear this. With the extensive quality tests our brushes go through, this isn't something we'd expect. While there's no organic in our brushes that would cause mold, this is most likely the result of excess toothpaste buildup. Our team would like to learn more from you, and provide you with some cleaning tips. So we can best assist you, we ask that you please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

At first I was very happy with the brushing performance of the Oral-B io3 toothbrush, but after a few months mold started growing in the handle where it connects to the brushhead. I first noticed it when a black residue was coming out of my mouth when rinsing after using the io3. There is no easy way to get into the area where the brush attaches to the head, so I tried using my waterpic to clean it out. A significant amount of accumulated mold was forced out, and I attached a new head. I started storing the brush handle upside down so the handle could dry better, and placed the brushhead on a stand so more air could get to it. A couple of weeks later the mold was back. I contacted Oral-B with the issue. They were very polite, and offered me a 25% discount on my next Oral-B purchase. Not what I wanted to hear.

We're sorry to hear this, Gary. With the extensive quality tests our brushes undergo, this isn't something we'd expect. While we understand this is unsightly, there's nothing in our toothbrush components that would cause mold. Organic material is necessary for mold growth and this type of material is not present in our brushes. This is likely a buildup from regular use. Even if rinsed after each use, residual toothpaste can harden over time and form a black, brown, chalk-like coating on the metal shaft of the handle, the rubber, or in the joints. If you have any questions or would like to share more, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

Yes it's an electric toothbrush. It works fine. But I took it back because of compatibility of other brush heads. This requires SPECIAL heads for the iO series and can't use any other oralb brand replacements. So I took it back and bought a non iO brush.
1 reply from Oral-B team - 4 months ago
We're so sorry to hear you're unhappy with your iO 3 toothbrush, and would like to help. We do design specific brush heads for the iO, which are different from our non iO toothbrushes. If you'd like to share more about your experience, we'd be happy to help. When you have a chance, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

I liked this toothbrush for the clean it gave, it felt good to hold design is simple and great BUT my only problem is that there are slits in the head of the brush that holds all that you are cleaning in your mouth to then come out of those slits, and get all over your hands. It runs down the body of the entire tooth brush thus getting on my hands and down my arm, etc. It gets messy no matter how I try to hold it and that is the reason why it gets a 2. It’s very inconvenient and not something I want to deal with every morning and night. Otherwise, it worked great and no other problems. The price is reasonable if you’re looking for an electric toothbrush but I wouldn’t recommend to my friends who prefer cleanliness and ease.

My dental hygienist recommended this because I've always used harder bristles and scrubbed really hard. He said it was damaging my gums, and was shocked to hear that. I'm so glad I invested in this electric toothbrush!! It has sensors on it too let you know if your brushing is too hard or soft. It's timed for 2 minutes and timed for each section of your teeth. Such as the front upper, front lower, etc. You can also keep track on your phone because it is Bluetooth and Oral B has an app to download. Since using this, my mouth feels so much better after brushing. It charges easily by the charging base. I think it's worth it and I'm so glad I tried this.

I've only had this for about 4 months and definitely do not recommend. There is a gap between the handle and the toothbrush head that water gets into, which causes the inside to become moldly. It also creates a smell that's not great.

Works great, my teeth feel super clean after every use. I agree with the other reviews, I used the app the first two or three times I brushed but don’t really ever use it anymore. It’s definitely helpful for the first few times. The time sensors are great and so are the pressure lights to help avoid damaging the gums. Overall this is a great toothbrush and I feel like it does a great job for the price
