Q: Mine sits on the plug in charger all day and when I go to use it, it stops spinning right in the middle of me brushing, is mine defective? It’s literally brand new not even a month old.

submitted by Colla - 2 years ago

  • A: Hi. I would not leave it in the charger. Let the charge go down, charge it, let it go down then charge it. Keep doing that. A charge should last for many days.

Q: We have changed the brush head nearly 10 times using several (using oral b brush heads) but keep finding dark growth under and inside the brush head. What should we do?

submitted by DW - 6 months ago
  • A: After use: Remove the brush head and wash the brush head and the metal connection thoroughly under running water. Dry SEPARATELY in-between uses to prevent mold growth.

submitted byNicole - 6 months ago
  • A: Thanks for getting in touch! We're sorry to hear about your experience, and understand this can be frustrating. Because there’s nothing in our toothbrush components that would cause mold before use, it's essential you thoroughly clean and dry your brush after each use. Rinse the brush under running water, removing the brush head and cleaning as well, then drying everything completely.

We had a different electric toothbrush similar to a sonicare, but we noticed the kids teeth didn’t appear as clean. Since buying this toothbrush a week ago, the kids are asking me if it’s ok to brush their teeth 3 times a day, and their teeth haven’t looked this clean in a while.

    BEWARE

Yuck! These started growing BLACK MOLD inside the toothbrush head a month into use. I rinsed before and after using with both my kids and tried odd the toothbrush head after use. My son noticed a bad smell in his hands when he’d brush his teeth. I took the head off to investigate and smelled it too. When I rinsed inside the toothbrush head, black mold slimed out. I think this happened because there is a little hole under the bristles that allows water to collect under the head. I felt so bad that I had been using this on my kids 2x a day. This is a major design malfunction. I appreciated that Target let me return these. I was pretty angry that this happened and they cost about $30 ea.

After a few months it grew a lot of bacteria.
    1 reply from Oral-B team - 1 month ago
We are certainly concerned to hear that your toothbrush developed a significant amount of bacteria after a few months of use. Please know that there is nothing in our toothbrush components themselves that would cause such growth prior to use, as bacteria typically requires organic material to thrive, which is not present in our brushes. However, we understand that bacteria can sometimes develop after use if the brush is stored in a damp area. We recommend rinsing the brush head thoroughly under running water with the handle on, then switching it off, removing the head, cleaning both parts separately, and drying them completely before reattaching for optimal hygiene. We would like to discuss this further with you; please contact us at 800-566-7252.

we have purchased these twice now and both times under the toothbrush has started to grow mold unfortunately.
    1 reply from Oral-B team - 2 months ago
We're sorry to hear about your experience, and we understand how frustrating this would be. We have some information that may help. While it’s rare, mold can develop after use if the brush is stored in a damp area or comes into contact with certain cleaning agents or soaps that can make the plastic porous. To prevent this, it’s important to clean and dry your brush after each use. First, rinse the brush head under running water with the handle on. Then switch it off, remove the head, clean both parts separately, and dry them before reattaching. For more help, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

    Hidden Mold!

I am extremely disappointed with this toothbrush. From the outside, everything appeared clean, but I recently discovered that the toothbrush head was harboring mold in hidden areas that are impossible to see during normal use. When I used my sink sprayer on the brush head, a surprising amount of mold came out. I then tapped it against a paper towel and even more continued to emerge. This was incredibly disturbing, especially considering this is a product designed for children. My child has been using this toothbrush twice daily, unknowingly being exposed to mold for who knows how long. What's most frustrating is that I am very diligent about cleaning it. I remove and clean the brush head and base multiple times per week and spray it with hydrogen peroxide daily. Despite all of that maintenance, mold was still accumulating inside hidden areas of the design. I never anticipated this issue and expected much better from a children's oral care product. The design needs serious improvement to prevent moisture buildup and mold growth. As a parent, finding mold in something that goes directly into my child's mouth is unacceptable. I would not purchase this product again.

Mold grows under the replacement head

As other reviewers have said, mold grows under the replacement head. Supposedly, if only we would remove the head in between uses and allow it to dry thoroughly this wouldn’t happen, but what other electric toothbrush requires you to do that? This is a design flaw that causes safety concerns on a children’s product meant to keep kids healthy!!! Can’t really tell from my photo, but the replacement head is absolutely full of mold. The company told one reviewer using gel toothpaste only adds to this problem. The consumer should be able to use whatever toothpaste they want without it affecting the safety of your product! It’s a toothbrush; it’s not that complicated.

We're sorry to hear this, Chel. Please know that there’s nothing in our toothbrush components that would cause mold before use. Mold requires organic material to grow, which isn’t present in our brushes. This is typically a result of excess toothpaste build up. To avoid this, be sure to thoroughly clean and dry your brush after each use. If you have questions or would like to share more, give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

Excellent brush, I address mold concern

I had to write a review after seeing people say mold was inside the head. I purchased this brush 3/15/26 and have struggled with the mold the last few weeks. I called Oral B and wanted to share some helpful information. I was told that because I’m using a gel instead of regular paste it clings on to the brush and inside components and that can cause mold to grow at brittle base and inside head. Also it not being dried. They recommended me to take it off after each use, rinse well and let it dry on a shelf/dry place. I told them I was able to clean a lot of the mold off the base of the metal stick that goes into the head but worried there’s mold inside and will have to replace soon. They also recommended I use warm water in a sterilized cup and let the head sit completely submerged for few hours or even over night. I did it while on the call and immediately black stuff coming out from inside head. 2nd picture is the head in the cup. The company was 100% friendly over helpful and patient when I called frustrated. I have 5 star just for that. I will have to guide and teach my 8 yr old how to rinse well and remove. I hope this helps someone and don’t hesitant to call the company! I was not given this product for free or asked to write. Review for incentive.

After extensive strict controls, your Oral-B Kid's Toothbrush should provide the round clean your child deserves for at least 2 years with regular use, so this isn't something we'd expect.
