A: Hi, no you do not have to move the pan around on the stove. The popper has a crank that you will turn that moves the stirring mechanism in the bottom of the pan. This stirs your corn and keeps it from burning. Thanks, Customer Support

There are not many stainless steal alternatives to this and it does the job, but is by no means perfect. My biggest pet peeve is that the pot itself doesn’t have a handle making the emptying the popcorn from a hot pot very inconvenient. It seems a bit pricey for what it is. The pot itself is quite thin and doesn’t necessarily seem to warrant the $50 price tag. The gears on my unit are metal and the mechanism seems to work well thus far.

avoid plastic gears, choose stainless
Stainless steel stovetop popcorn poppers with metal gears are hard to find. Most have cheap plastic gears that break easily. I want a lasting product, not a throw-away one.

Not well made
Bought one of these after reading all of thew glowing reviews. Sadly was not my experience. The units are not made well. The instructions are incorrect. After emailing the company about the issues they were not helpful, simply referring me to a video that was no help and then ignoring my follow-up email. The gearing is faulty. The clips have a tendency to slip free of the bucket causing the pot to fall and all of the popcorn to spill out. The last time the popcorn fell across the still hot burner, instantly burning and smoking and ruining my cooktop. What a disaster. It does make good popcorn but at the cost of frustration and wasted product. There are better solutions out there.

Pops Great Popcorn BUT BROKE!
This popper only lasted a couple of years! Not easy to clean either. The lid broke off because this popper is made cheaply and pooly designed. I ONLY washed this by hand and never put in the dishwasher. It is a shame because it popped delicious and fluffy popcorn! I do not recommend.

The pot itself is sturdy, but the lid and crank mechanism are very flimsy. (Mine had the metal gears) Upon first use, the gears would skip, bind, or completely disengage from each other when turning the handle. After watching Whirly-pop's troubleshooting video on YouTube, I attempted to adjust the gears according to their instructions. They seem to work while the pot is empty; but, unfortunately, the gears pop back out of place during popping.

Works Great on Glass Convection Stove Top
When I moved to a house with convection glass stove top, I could no longer use the cast iron Dutch oven anymore to make popcorn. So I got an air popper, but never really liked that too much, and then it wore out. Didn't want to try that again, since they don't last long/land fill, ERR. This stainless steel popper thing works great; pops quickly 3-4 minutes on my number 10 setting. Any popcorn will work as long as it is fresh, according to instructions. I add my own spices. It took about a week to arrive to my house in Oregon. I think it is worth the price, bc this thing should last forever. The crank was a little stiff the first batch, but smooth after that.

Mixer post was off-center so one of the blades scraped along the side of the pot when turning making it almost impossible. The box was not damaged upon receipt so it appears to be a manufacturing defect. Extremely disappointing given it costs almost $50. Returned.
