A must read
It is a beautifully written story of how one must adapt to changing times and circumstances, especially those far beyond their control. All while making the best of their situation. The development and bonds between the characters are so well done. I read it in about three days and I didn’t want it to end. I don’t often reread books but I know this is one I will return to multiple times and I can’t wait to read more books by Amor Towles.

My first five star book in about a year
A Gentleman in Moscow spans the 30-year residency of the Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov, who has been placed under house arrest inside the Metropol Hotel in Moscow in 1922. The Bolsheviks spared him from death of a revolutionary poem written in his university days. This is more of a character study than an action oriented novel. It is beautifully written with prose that stays with you long after you have finished the story. I'm a fast reader, but as I got into the book I found my slowing down to savor it and wishing it would never end.

Admittedly, I am still reading the book, but it has captured my attention. Well worth a read.
