We understand that this ingredient has recently been in the media linked to health concerns but the FDA still recognizes this ingredient as GRAS (generally recognized as safe). I love the Pure Protein brand bars. The Lemon Cake flavor is my favorite, followed by Cookies N Cream. I've had other lemon flavor protein bars made by other brands, and haven't found any that can beat these ones.

Tastes and smells like real lemon
Maybe I'm just not super picky with my protein bars, but I was ready for this taste bad and it was good - definitely reminiscent of a lemon bar. When I opened it that lemon smell came right through. Texture In wouldn't call bad or good, it was fine. But I really enjoyed this one.

My favorite protein bar
I think the texture/flavor of these bars are some of the best I've had from a protein bar, almost none of that bad protein taste or chalky texture. Also the protein/calories/sugar levels are pretty good, it's hard to find a 200 calorie bar that has this much protein without really sacrificing flavor.

I am someone who likes sweets a lot, so the lemon flavor may be too sweet for others. However, I love it. These are a lot better than many other Pure Protein bars- soft texture and no noticeable protein aftertaste. I usually eat one protein bar a day to help make my macros and I've had to stop myself from eating several of these a day because they're just that good.

Unbearable Aftertaste
These bars are nasty. I love lemon stuff, like really love. These bars are chewy, but the aftertaste is unbearable. The bars DO NOT look like the picture, they have a yellow coating on them not a white coating. Even warmed up, these bars are simple not good. The lemon flavor tastes stale. As if eating a lemon flavored food that went bad. These bars have 20g of Protein which is great, but they also contain 2g of added sugar. I will never buy these again and will try to figure out how to stomach through the box because I don't want to waste money. Pass on these.
