Great basic organizer
It is great basic organizer for letter and legal files such as taxes, documents and receipts. It holds well without being bulky. It is lightweight and portable, has easy to carry and stack design, dust protection.

File Box
I have received this product as part of "My-Take research study". I wanted to share a recommendation for the sterlite file box. It is an excellent option for storing important documents as well as miscellaneous items like Legos which have small plastic parts that are easily lost. The box is deep and sufficiently high making it easy to store both small and large file folders. Additionally the box is transparent so there's no need for labeling to remember what is stored inside. Great file box
I'm very happy to have this file box and have stored a lot of files in it. I actually didn't expect to be able to fit as many of these files into it as I ended up doing. A few years ago my husband had retired from being self-employed. We had a ton of files from the business as well as having to keep all the tax documents, inspections, insurance information, etc. What I like most is that it is clear making seeing what is in it easy and it having a lid makes me no longer have to worry about any dust, etc. getting into the files

Portable File Box
I love this portable file box! I am an avid crocheter and I download many patterns. I use hanging file folders to organize them. This file box is portable and perfect for storing my patterns. It has a ledge to support the hanging files -- both letter size and legal size. I store the file box in the closet and when I need a pattern, I set the box on the ottoman in front of my chair and browse. The top keeps the dust out and the units are stackable. Loved is so much that I just bought another file box. I received this product as part of a My-Take research study."

Holds all my paperwork
This is perfect for all my papers I need to keep and store. This actually holds everything I needed to put in it and the see through design makes it easy to see what is inside. The lid is easy to open and close, and it stays secured until you go to open. This is a stackable design so once I need another I can just stack these in my home office closet. Exactly what I needed and was looking for in a file box. I received this product as part of a My-Take research study.

Brittle Lids Make These Useless
I’m a professional home organizer and often purchase storage products for client paperwork. After buying several of the Sterilite File Boxes (Model 1868), I can confidently say these are absolute junk. The lids are incredibly brittle and crack with even minimal use and little weight added to the inside of the box, which instantly renders the boxes useless. It’s disappointing that replacement lids aren’t available—such a waste. Sterilite really needs to redesign these with a sturdier, stackable lid that can actually hold up to normal handling. Until then, I can’t recommend them for anyone who needs reliable, long-term file storage.

Broken lids, good boxes
The product is great IF you buy it at a store. My mistake was to order this out of necessity online…it arrived with broken lids on and there seems to be no way of getting replacements sent. I needed these to pack up things and seal them so I just tapped up the lids so I could proceed with packing. Unfortunate that they arrived broken. Mostly a shipping issue.

My kingdom for a lid
The lid broke and I can not replace just the lid. Ill have to fins another product were the top is more sturdy. Sucks because other then the lid issue its a good file box.

DECEPTIVE SIZING
While this says it is 18-1/2" long, this is very deceptive. on each side is a decorative piece of plastic, and they are measuring this into the size - but it is on the sides of this box, so it is basically 2 inches shorter on each side, meaning it's more like 14" long. Inside is the same - there is plastic to hang files, and that takes up space, so if you are looking for a box 18-1/2" long to have something that size fit inside here, look elsewhere. Sterlite, this is deceptive and wrong - the box should be measured from the inside so people can buy the correct size for what they need, NOT adding decorative plastic past those dimensions and counting that.

Hello Barbie28311, the dimensions listed on our website and labels are the measurements taken from the widest points of the product, typically the lid or top, and include any protrusions such as latches. Inside bottom dimensions are smaller as the product tapers downward. This is the universal method for measuring housewares. We are very sorry to hear the File Box did not meet your size expectations. lids shrink! very weird
Why do the lids shrink in size? very odd. I suppose if I had kept them connected to the bins, it would not happen, but I have 3 letter bins, and the tops almost fit, but the last corner won't snap in! clearly, they shrunk! I tried to soak in water to see if that helped, but no luck

Lids are Brittle, and break easily
Lids are brittle, broke within a day of getting it home. Bumped into something and cracked into multiple pieces. The main box is better, but without a lid, it's not much use.

BOX LIDS THAT BREAK WITH AGE
My ten year old file boxes with hinged lids are not aging well the semi clear lids begin to disintegrate. Can I buy lids to replace them?

Giving These a Try
I was looking for this type of hanging file box to store my graduate school course notes in. After shopping the usual office supply stores and finding their selection costing more than I wanted to invest in the project, I came across the Sterilite model 1868 for a reasonable price. The quality wasn't the same as ones costing 2-3 times as much, but these are not designed for the abuse that offices give their files. So, I purchased four and packed them up. They are full and pretty heavy. Stacked three high in the closet. As others have noted, the lids are pretty flimsy, so we will see how they manage the weight over time. I may be pushing the limit on what this box and lid are designed to handle. Probably two high would be better, but don't have the space. I am hoping that being indoors in a climate controlled closet, they will last a few years. I am hoping not to find cracks and breaks.
