The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones generally work well with MacBook Air models over Bluetooth, so if they have never connected in two years, there's likely a pairing issue rather than a compatibility problem. The headphones support standard Bluetooth audio connections and can pair with macOS devices. A few things I'd try: Delete the headphones from your Mac's Bluetooth list Mac: System Settings → Bluetooth If "WH-1000XM5" appears, click the information button and choose Forget This Device. Put the headphones into pairing mode Turn them off. Hold the power button for about 5-7 seconds until you hear "Bluetooth pairing" (not just "Power on"). Pair again On the Mac, refresh Bluetooth devices and select WH-1000XM5. Check if they're already connected to another device The XM5 supports multipoint connections but can sometimes get "stuck" with phones or tablets. Temporarily disable Bluetooth on your iPhone, iPad, or other paired devices and try again. Reset the headphones If you've never done this in two years, a reset can clear pairing issues.     Not worth it

    Bought 10 months ago and the left hinge broke. Frustrating to say the least. The quality of the physical headphones isn’t great, they feel very flimsy and well broke. Sound quality and noise cancellation is fine - not completely silent with these on but enough to make train journeys more bearable. Though sometimes they did seem to get dirt in the sensors and freak out.

    XM5's upgrading from XM4's

    Very good quality, I am upgrading from my XM4's as I broke the head band. The noise cancelling setting does not seem to be as good as the 4's, but the sound quality is definitely better. They are comfortable.

    Disappointing, not worth the money

    Really disappointed with the noise canceling capabilities. Does not perform like I thought they would on flights. Also design is not comfortable, causes headache and pain on top of my head.

    Great Sound, Decent ANC, Poor Build Quality

    I bought these headphones a few days ago, and have been using them ever since. The moment I opened the box, and held the headphones, I was felt that they were quite fragile. The hinges that held the parts that covered the ears were designed to break. So, I'm quite disappointed. I just wish the ANC was more effective, it isn't good enough to mute out the noise of water boiling.

    Quality is awful

    I only had these headphones for 2 months. They broke in on the hinges twice. My last Sony headphones (WCH720N) had the same issue. Only those lasted a year, these broke instantly and they were more expensive. Never buying from Sony again

    Excellent sound and noise cancellation I’m very pleased with the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones. The sound quality is excellent, the noise cancellation works extremely well, and they are comfortable to wear for long periods. The battery life is also very good, and calls come through clearly. The carrying case is slightly bulky, but overall these are excellent-quality headphones and I would happily recommend them.

    XM5 bettered way more than my previous buys

    The headphones are really comfortable. It's cushions are super comfy and is very lightweight. The sound quality is very good but still can better on deep sound and those feeble notes. The noice cancellation is really good compared to the other headphones I used such as Bose QuietComfort 2 and Sennheiser HD450 BT. But I sometimes hate the app firmware issue where the settings get adjusted back to default for some reason. Although the Adaptive Sound Control feature is good, in my situation, the mode switched from noice cancellation to adaptive mode unnecessarily. And the packaging of the product is super premium. I loved the way the headphone reached me in a supergood case. I loved the colour also, the matte navy blue. Overall, it's a really good buy.
