Great read
I saw this author in an article in the New York Times. I read the entire book over two days. I couldn’t put it down, it was so interesting. Helpful information on what happens during to a person’s mind during addiction and actions to end addiction. Enough scientific evidence to support the ideas but not so detailed to make it a difficult read. Highly recommend.

An excellent read for anybody struggling with addicition
As a recovering addict I found this book to be exceptionally insightful on the processes of addiction and the path towards recovery and leading a better life. Ignore the hyper sensitive negative review. Addicition is not a sterile or clean world. You will read stories of other people who have likely suffered much worse than you and still made it out alive.

Depressing, disappointing read
I was excited to read this book based on the title and other reviews and usually love this type of book. But I must say I was very disappointed and found the book to be hard to read (in the sense that it made me feel bad, not the writing) and depressing. The first story about a client that she had (and kept returning to throughout the book) was way too much!! The details she provided about his issues were things I would never want to know and just way too graphic and I hate that my brain now has that info in it. I tried to stay curious and wonder why she included these graphic details and I just could not figure out why. Like when a movie has gratuitous nudity for no reason really, that is what this felt like. I gleaned no info really about "how to find balance" as there were just too many client stories.
