Q: Does someone have to ring the door bell for the ring to record?

submitted by nlonurse - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi nlonurse. Thanks for asking. In order for your Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) to record any events, you must be subscribed to a Ring Protect Plan. Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer general motion and doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don't get video recordings of those events. Q: is there a monthly charge?

submitted by kelli - 5 years ago
  • A: Hello kelli, Out of the box, the Ring Video Doorbell is designed to keep you connected to your home in real time, no matter where you are. The optional Ring Protect Plan is available for as little as $3/month per device. With this, videos of each ring, motion, and live view event are stored in the cloud, allowing you to review, share, and save them at your leisure. Here is an informative article regarding the plan options currently available: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/categories/115000385923-Protect-Plan-Support. Without a plan, you will still receive real time motion and ring alerts, as well as have access to the Ring Live View feature. If you are having trouble accessing Live View quickly enough, try downloading the Rapid Ring app. Rapid Ring app works in conjunction with your regular Ring app, but enables you to get notifications faster and respond faster. We invite you to reach out at https://community.ring.com/ if any additional information is needed regarding the Ring Protect Plan options. Excellent

This smart doorbell is of excellent quality. At home this is the brand we use for the entire camera and surveillance system. It allows us to have greater security and also to be able to know who is going home. It has a motion sensor and also detects when a package arrives at home. The very simple installation, has an application that allows you to access the entire ring system in real time. It records the sounds and allows us to communicate with people through the application when we are not at home and they arrive at our door.

Great video camera doorbell

Overall I recommend the ring doorbell! It detects when a person, car, package or any kind of motion is near my front door. I hard wired mine to my house so I don’t need to keep charging it. There have been a few times where the videos would not connect and it took a couple days of troubleshooting which is why I did not give 5 stars but overall I recommend

Great camera but not so great battery life

This is honest review. I love this camera. The design is slick and nice. Connecting to it was easy. It has lasted a while. The audio and video are also great but the battery life runs down so quick for me even after changing my settings through the app. I think if I purchased another it would be a wired one.

A helpful way to keep an eye on my front porch

Our ring doorbell is a great way to keep an eye on people getting close or coming to our door. I appreciate that it sends notifications to my phone when there’s movement and I also like that I can see what’s going on in real time- as well as talk through my phone to someone at the door. I have had my Ring Doorbell for a year at this point and it continues to work well. I am able to use the doorbell for over a week before I need to charge the battery.
