Q: Do I have to buy soft discs for this product m? If so what brand works best?

submitted by Knox rose sweaters - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi there, The Soft Duo pack comes with a size Regular & Small. Most people can use both sizes, the small for lighter days and the regular for heavier days, but one size may be more comfortable. In general, we recommend the size small if you are a first-time cup user, have a light flow, or have a low cervix. We recommend the size regular if you have a heavier flow or a higher cervix.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have tried multiple times at the beginning of my cycle when flow is still light to try to get the hang of it but it leaks every single time and I cannot get the cup to fully open no matter what I do.

Just missing the bags

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My order included some plain linen bags. I purchased because my old cup ripped along the little hole. I wad disappointed but the angle on it helps it be cleaned easier. So I'll be more gentle with the next but if it happens again I will be swapping to a different company.

Not sure

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Somewhat undecided. I was using a firmer cup from cora, which has a stiff rim that makes removal a bit painful after a while and also just seemed to lose its seal or leak often. I think my biggest problem is peeing though, hence why I bought the saalt soft duo. The large seems way too large for me and the small size is perfect except half the time I can't pee with it in. Which I figured the softer material was supposed to help with. Is my body really that oddly shaped? Would the teen size be better?

I used a cup many years ago but went back to disposable products. Tried a menstrual disc, hated it. I was worried about buying the “right” cup. I was so glad I bought this two pack. Turns out, I was wrong about the cup size I would need most often! I love not having to think about it during a 12-hour shift.

Informative, clean planet, easy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I did some research before buying the product. There is SO much information provided by SAALT before buying anything. When I received the two cups I bought, it also came with very clear and easy to read instruction on maintenance of the cups and how to use it. It also had a bunch of information about the cups and showed me a picture of 2 girls my purchase is helping (super enduring). So far I am really enjoying the cups! They sit nicely (hardly even feel them) when they are in. I had a little bit of leaking at the start (I run super heavy my first two days) but I didn’t set the cup correctly at first either. I couldn’t leave it in the full 12 hours which is not a big deal as I have a heavy flow. The instructions say you CAN leave it in UP TO 12 hours. Doesn’t mean you have to go all the way to 12 hours. There is a small learning curve on how to use it at first, but worth it! I would like to add that you cannot be squeamish about menstrual blood or being intimate down there to use a cup or disc. You will get blood on you the first few times you use the products as part of learning how to use it. Make sure you have a way to wash the cup off after taking it out. It can be awkward standing there with someone washing their hands as you wash off your cup. It’s not particularly public bathroom friendly so plan accordingly. But other than that it is a really good quality product, does what it says it does, helps keep the earth clean, and money in the pocket. 10/10 will be recommending to my friends and family.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First time trying any menstrual cup! I've only tried the pink cup twice, and insertion was fine. Removal was a traumatic, slippery, messy experience. Could not grip it to save my life. Hours were lost. Tears were shed... And it leaked a bit. I like the ease and convenience of menstrual cups, so I will try the gray one next time, since others have shared they had a better experience with it. But, the pink one is never going in my body again!

Impossible to remove!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be using this much. While it is comfortable once it is in, it is so difficult to remove. I wish the cup had some sort of ring on the end to help with removal. The stick at the end just slips. I was worried it was stuck in there forever! I wanted to like this product so much, I am really saddened by the fact I won't be using much.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the duo, both sizes are helpful when my PCOS is making things unpredictable. I have been raving to everyone about switching, especially with tampons now having hazardous materials. Plus you can use the bathroom without having to waste products! What’s not to love?

Well worth the transition from tampons

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was initially intimidated and overwhelmed by all of the recent news regarding tampons and had been wanting to try cups anyways. Therapist process has been literally and mentally painless aside from navigating the first 5 minutes of how to insert/remove. You get the hang of it fast and it really does save so much overall time and money and peace of mind. Well worth the change and long overdue honestly.

I’ve used Diva cups for years, and never have I had one as comfortable as these! I used to have to twist to get my Diva cup to open from the fold once inserted, which can be painful on crampy days. These open softly after insertion with a pinch/tug at the base. Love them!

Learning Curve, But Stick with It

5 out of 5 stars
Me F. - 5 months ago
originally posted on Saalt
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Okay, let’s get into details with 100% transparency: there is a learning curve with a cup! (Read that line as many times as you need). I’m 36 years old, have had my period since 11yo, and using tampons since 18yo. I thought I was ready for the change but here was my experience… Day 1 - I was ready to give up! No matter how I folded it, it was too big and felt painful to insert. Only the c-fold technique allowed it to open and seal properly, otherwise it sat awkwardly (I could feel it) and leaked. And removal… I hated having to dig inside of myself (up to my second knuckle) and couldn’t pinch without feeling like I was causing a lot of trauma! Then when I removed the cup, it was so large that even that hurt. I gave it a rest and went back to tampons while I looked up videos to hopefully help the insertion and removal process. Day 2 - I wanted to give it another try because *environment*, so with a fresh mind, I tried again. Much better! I still had to use the c-fold technique, but used a swooping motion instead with steady pressure and it wasn’t as bad. For removal, I had to squat, pull the tab (which instructions say not to) to get it lower into the cervix, then hold it in place with my left hand and tense my muscles to push it far enough out that I could reach my two fingers in and grasp the base to pinch. Literally a two hand job to get it out, but it worked. Days 3 through 7 - much easier. Insertion became pretty routine and removal stopped hurting - it helps if you keep it pinched and slightly folded while removing so that it doesn’t feel like pushing a large balloon out. You’re supposed to rinse and reinsert; I’m still not sure what I’ll do when I’m in a public restroom and don’t have access to a sink right next to me… I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I never used the larger cup, and doubt I ever will. I wore the regular for 8 hours, and even on my heavy days, it was nowhere near being full. Give the cup a try and don’t give up if you have a hard time the first day. Remember, this is a new experience so allow yourself some grace while figuring out the technique that works for you.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’d never tried a menstrual cup before and the small soft one worked flawlessly the first time I tried! Life changing. It’s definitely a learning process to get it up in there in position, and you can’t be too shy about feeling around to make sure it’s in place, but it has been so worth it. I have quite heavy periods so I’ll be trying the bigger one next cycle for even longer protection. (Pro tip: save effort and avoid mess by changing and washing in the shower when possible!)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had been using the regular Saalt cup for a few months and noticed that my cramps were feeling significantly worse than I was used to. I don't have a history of getting bad cramps regularly and it took me a couple months to realize it might be the harder cup. I switched to the softer ones and cramps are back to my normal, much lower, much more tolerable level! I love having the two different sizes so I can use the smaller one on lighter days, or days when I'll be able to empty it more frequently. The bigger one can last me a full workday without issue. Highly recommend.
