About this item

Highlights

  • The unique liner rim system is a faster, neater way to trash! The outer lid lifts up for easy access to the liner — no need to remove the top of the can or fumble with a clumsy bucket. When you're done, it closes over the liner to keep it neatly out of sight.
  • The liner pocket makes it easy to store a 20 pack of simplehuman custom fit liners inside the can so you never have to search for them.
  • The liner pocket dispenses liners one by one quickly and easily for a faster liner change. All it takes is a light touch with the spring-loaded steel pedal, which is engineered to last over 150,000 steps - that's more than 20 steps a day for 20 years.
  • The liner rim holds the liner in place, so there is no longer a need for an inner bucket. Old-fashioned buckets are clumsy, awkward and a big waste of space inside the can — now there's 25% more room for trash! The interior is designed for easy cleaning with rounded corners and smooth wipeable surfaces.
  • This dual compartment option makes sorting trash look good! Each side has a generous capacity, and emptying is easy with a plastic bucket on the recycling side and a liner pocket in the trash compartment.
  • An all-natural odorsorb pod fits discreetly inside the lid of your simplehuman trash can to eliminate trash odors for 45 days.

Description

Dual compartments make it easy to neatly sort your trash and recyclables in one convenient, space-efficient place. On one side, an innovative liner pocket stores and dispenses liners from inside the can for a faster liner change. The other side has a convenient handled bucket for easy lifting and disposal of all your recyclables. A steel liner rim grips the liner and keeps it hidden. And with no inner bucket, there's more space for trash. The strong wide steel pedal is spring-loaded for a smoother stepping experience. Patented lid shox technology ensures the lid closes slowly and silently every time. The Code H custom fit liner fits this can perfectly — no bunching or slipping for a cleaner trash experience. Liner refill packs store easily in this can's liner pocket.

Q: Can you use standard 8-gallon trash bags with this?

submitted by madhenry1 - 11 months ago

  • A: A 13 gallon bag with a drawstring can work. It will not be as pristine a fit as the official bag. You may wish to tighten the drawstring around the top of the inner section edges.

submitted byShopSkeptic - 10 months ago

Q: What letter bags do they use?

submitted by MP - 1 year ago

  • A: The 58L Rectangular Dual Compartment Recycling Step Trash Can is designed for use with code H custom fit liners.

Q: Can I use bags on the recycling side? Will they hold in place despite the bucket being there?

submitted by Ncac17 - 1 year ago

  • A: Hi Ncac17, While you can use liners on the recycling side, we recommend removing the bucket and placing the liners directly in the compartment for the best fit. Sincerely, simplehuman

Q: How big is each compartment?

submitted by Hasnaa - 1 year ago

  • A: Each compartment in the 58L dual compartment can is divided into approximately 34 liters and 24 liters.

Q: Can you use 13 gal trash bags for each side?

submitted by Amanda - 1 year ago

  • A: The total capacity of the can is 58L, but since it is split into two compartments, each side holds approximately 24–34 liters. Because of this, a 49-liter (13-gallon) bag may be too large for each compartment. While standard bags can work, we recommend using simplehuman custom-fit liners for the best fit and performance, as they stay securely in place.

Q: Is this trash can compatible with the simple human compost?

submitted by MK - 1 year ago

  • A: Yes, the 58L Rectangular Dual Compartment Trash Can is compatible with the simplehuman compost caddy. The compost caddy attaches to a magnetic dock that hangs on the side of rectangular or slim liner rim trash cans—which includes the 58L rectangular dual compartment model.

    Sleek simplicity meets perfect design

I bought this bin when our local authority decided to split recycling into paper/cardboard only with all other recyclables collected separately. This bin makes that job a breeze. It’s large enough to cope with a week’s worth of recyclables. So fewer trips to empty it. Great piece of kit..you won’t be disappointed!

Who knew a kitchen bin could elicit such joy!

I never thought a kitchen bin could make me so happy! I love the way the liner doesn’t show. I love the way it’s so easy to keep clean! I love the way I can throw general waste and recycling in the bin with one foot press! I love the liners being stored behind the bin! It’s fits snugly in the space I have for the bin and it looks lovely!

    Love Love Love

Love everything about this garbage/recycler. Took me a long time to decide to purchase based on price but so happy I did! I wanted the 90L but would not fit my space so ordered the 58L. Plenty of room for garbage and recycling. Bigger items I just take out and throw in my recycling bin. Bought the Compost Caddy also and it is fantastic! Love that the garbage/recycler stores the bags in the back of the garbage side. Empty the garbage, pull out a bag and voila…done!

Be careful of the gold finish.

I would like to say that bin is beautiful and I got it with a promotional caddy with purchase. The item arrived and there was no issues. But it scratches incredibly easily. When I approached SH, they offered to give me 10% off my next purchase. I explained that I happy to keep the bin but am not paying the full total for a subpar product. To date, SH has failed to address my emails and has offered no resolution other than the 10%.

This is our second step recycler. Our last took us through almost 10 years. It had one side latch broken and did not quite open fully the last few years but it still did the job for us. We expect to have the same excellent experience with the new model as the old one , even better since we see new improvements. We have only had the new one a week but so far no complaints!

    Great function (a little damaged)

I honestly love the function of this trash. It does everything I need and fits great in my apartment. It did arrive with some damage (a bit of melted plastic on the foot, and inside the trash can side; and a dent on the recycling side) but it didn't seem worth it to return it over. Overall, a great upgrade.

Too expensive but super cool trashcan

I didn’t buy the special bag made by simple human and it works good enough. The blue recycle side has a handle so you can take the bucket out to wash it, but the trash side does not. Harder to clean that side!) it’s the most gold trashcan I found but not a perfect gold since Matte

Perfect Double Bin with a modern design

Just had the kitchen renovated and the old bin was an eye sore. Found Simple Human’s Recycler and it’s was perfect. The design aesthetics match our new kitchen and with the 10 year warranty I know the quality will be impeccable. Was so impressed with the purchase I ended up buying the Food Caddy too.

    Step Recycler

Excellent bin good quality, looks good and fits well in to our kitchen, making management of waster and recycling a lot easier. Having a single bin for both is a real bonus as it avoids multiple bins.
