They can always check the accuracy using ice water slurry: 1) Fill a cup with ice 2) Add water to cup 3) Slowly stir the ice slurry with the probe (keep probe away from the sides and bottom of the cup for better accuracy) 4) Thermometer should read 32F (0C). A: This is not recommended for candy. Note - This is an instant read thermometer (not a leave-in) with a short stem and max temp of 392F. If you need a candy thermometer, we recommended using an actual candy thermometer which Taylor does sell on target.com (search 070-05-3600)

Cracked, Broken Plastic Around Probe
This item worked well when it first arrived. Unfortunately, after fairly light use, the plastic base where the metal probe meets the plastic chassis/frame broke based on opening and closing stress. I am replacing with another manufacturer’s product.

This is a safety hazard!!!
This was my second time purchasing one, the first I had was great but moved and don't have it anymore. When I purchased a second one it wasn't reading accurate temperatures and would frequently error out. I don't have the packaging anymore because why would I keep the packaging if the first one worked great without issue? I want a refund. This is not usable, and is not safe.

Battery konked almost immediately
Worked fine for one reading, about 30 seconds. Then the battery konked. Be aware that the battery case can only be opened by means of a very, very small screw. Luckily, I had a large set of screwdriver heads. It took me a while to find the right one. Annoying and time consuming! A simpler access to the battery case would have maybe cost a little more money to include, but would have been a kindness to customers!
