Does your food take longer to cook because you have to keep opening the oven door to check if the food is done or not? No need to constantly open the oven door anymore! The thermometer sits on the counter while the cord winds through the oven door and the temperature can be read without opening the oven door, very convenient. The Taylor 1478-21 digital cooking thermometer with timer and probe is a great tool for your kitchen. The Taylor 1478-21 displays temperature in Fahrenheit (32 degrees F to 392 degrees F) and Celsius (0 degrees C to 200 degrees C). This thermometer conveniently monitors exact temperature of meat, poultry, or any food without opening the oven door. The thermometer comes with a durable 6 inch, stainless steel probe and a 4-foot silicone cord. The cord is safe up to 485 degrees F/250 degrees C. When your food hits your preset time or desired internal temperature, an alarm signal occurs to ensure perfect results. You can display the thermometer 2 ways: stand up display for counter top use or there is a magnet on the back to hold on to an oven door. This thermometer can be used for grilling, as long as the cord does not get exposed to a direct flame. To save battery life, the thermometer comes with an on/off switch, is backed by a 1 year warranty and runs on 2 AAA batteries (included).
Helpful hints-The meat probe is a thin wire coated in Silicone. Be very careful not to crimp this wire in the oven- door , BBQ top ,or Smoker door. The probe , like all in the industry , should be kept away from flame flare-ups and contact with cooking surfaces. Another tip- be sure to insert the probe into the meat at least 1.5 inches. This insures that you will get the correct readings at all times.
I purchased Taylor Gourmet Programmable stainless Steel Probe Thermometer with Timer because I lost mine. My original one worked perfectly. This new one was defective in that it could never turn on even with replacement of their batteries. I returned it and did an even exchange for it. Luckily I opened up the second purchase and tried to turn it on and no luck. Customer Service, three women, attempted to turn it on and it also did not work. I had my own batteries and it also did not work. If I could give it a zero, I would. I received a refund of my purchase and disappointed that I will have to try another product.
I purchased this for use in my kitchen oven. I can never tell when pork or chicken is "done" and so they end up overcooked and dry. I've used this on a pork loin and on chicken thighs, and both times it came out perfectly. I love the alarm function where I can set the desired temperature and then set the alarm. I've only used it twice, so I can't speak to how long it will hold up, but it seems to be made well enough for the $10 I put into it. It works really well for my purposes. Much better than the thermometer that you just stick into the meat when you take it out of the oven. I like that I don't have to keep taking the meat out to test it.
I've had one of these for at least 10 years (maybe 20?). It worked great every time. But it went bad on me. So I was delighted that a new version of this oven thermometer was available. I might go 2 or 3 months without using it. But I was always able to figure out how to use it each time. Nice intuitive system. It's so great to check the temperature without having to open the door.
I've only used this 3 times so far times & it worked great. Once for an 8lb pork shoulder roast, BBQ chicken and oven fried chicken. I'm hoping it lasts & any defects this model has had in the past have been corrected.
Very disappointed. The thermometeter didnt work right out of the box. When checking temperatures out of the oven the Taylor thermometer is 15° to 20° degrees cooler than all of my other thermometers. When I leave it the oven, the thermometer reads the temperature of the oven....not the meat. Complete waste.
