@allinwitha Is there a book you wish you picked up sooner? Things You Save In A Fire by Katherine Center is one of those for me…I’ve owned it for awhile but it took some prodding from Jesse exercise_read_repeat to get me to read it. Update, I absolutely LOVED it. 5 star read! This book was truly amazing, and has stuck to me on such a powerful level. Cassie is the first and only female member firefighter in a small town in Massachusetts. She is forced to move there from Austin to take care of her estranged mother…and happens to fall for the other rookie on the squad. I loved Cassie’s fire and tenacity. I loved watching her grow and evolve in not only her relationship with her mother but with her team. And sweet sweet Owen was the definition of a cinnamon roll. This has defiantly sparked a desire to finish KC backlist asap!

@alluringbookworm Elsa sang it best ❄️ Let it go, let it go. When you don’t forgive, you end up decreasing the room in your heart for love. @amillionlittlepages Saturday (11/14) was World Diabetes Day 🌍 and the month of November is Diabetes Awareness Month, so I figured better late than never for sharing a #mondaysbluesstack of my some hopefuls as well as a big piece of who I am! I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes over 12 years ago when I was fifteen years old, and I’m attached to two robot parts 24/7/365 as a result! 💪🏼 Studies have shown that, on average, individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes make 180 extra decisions each day. Should I take X amount of insulin to cover the carbs in what I’m about to eat? Should I reduce the amount of insulin I’m receiving while I workout to avoid going low - and increase it afterwards to avoid spiking high? Will I need to adjust my overnight settings to hopefully avoid Dexcom alarms waking me up? Do I change my pump now while I have a few minutes to spare, or wait until it expires at midnight? Is it a good idea to chug some juice to avoid an impending low? 180 extra decisions. Thoughts like these are on a constant loop in my head, and are the driving factor behind when/what I eat, how productive I am at work, when/if I workout, how enjoyable I am to be around when social, when/how much I sleep . . . behind everything I do. That’s why on World Diabetes Day, I celebrate the men and women who have taken this diagnosis and these 180 extra daily decisions and, rather than allow them to completely consume their day-to-day, have instead become stronger because of them. This day celebrates and brings attention those who live, day in and day out, with the constant weight of responsibility, the lows, the highs, the guilt, the fear, the anxiety, and the countless alarms, site changes, and finger pricks. Life with Type 1 can be heavy, but it can also spark resilience, determination, and confidence. And for that, I celebrate this day and continue to drive towards a cure 💙✨ While I try to reserve this space for mostly bookish thoughts and conversations, I’ve been toying with showing everyone “diabetes in real time” via my stories one day - is this something y’all are interested in?! Technology is fascinating and makes my daily life a lot more manageable 🙌🏼

Book Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of How to Walk Away comes a stunning new novel about courage, hope, and learning to love against all odds.

Cassie Hanwell was born for emergencies. As one of the only female firefighters in her Texas firehouse, she's seen her fair share of them, and she's a total pro at other people's tragedies. But when her estranged and ailing mother asks her to give up her whole life and move to Boston, Cassie suddenly has an emergency of her own.

The tough, old-school Boston firehouse is as different from Cassie's old job as it could possibly be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that the firemen aren't exactly thrilled to have a lady on the crew--even one as competent and smart as Cassie. Except for the infatuation-inspiring rookie, who doesn't seem to mind having Cassie around. But she can't think about that. Because love is girly, and it's not her thing. And don't forget the advice her old captain gave her: Never date firefighters. Cassie can feel her resolve slipping...and it means risking it all--the only job she's ever loved, and the hero she's worked like hell to become.

Katherine Center's Things You Save in a Fire is a heartfelt and healing tour-de-force about the strength of vulnerability, the nourishing magic of forgiveness, and the life-changing power of defining courage, at last, for yourself.
