submitted byihatewhirlpool - 3 years agoA: My first machine failed after about 2 yrs. The part that failed is a gear mechanism which lifts the tray up and opens the release gate to empty the ice into the storage bin. It's a common whichh fail.

A: You need to add water and this unit has a 2. 3 quart water tank capacity. It does not need to be connected to a waterline.

DO NOT PURCHASE!
DO NOT PURCHASE! Mine broke within 4months. I brought it back to Target, but they wouldn't help becuase the purchase was not under my account for some reason. I called five different numbers before I got ahold of a customer service team. They will not help with a replacement or repair part. Whirpool doesn't even make these!! They just let some crappy brand use their name. Waste of money and time!

Stopped working after 5 months
Worked good enough until it didn’t. It made ice fast. Was easy enough to clean. Ice cubes were perfect size but if you didn’t use them within a few hours they melted. Also the Trey didn’t fill completely before hitting the sensor. I wish it would lasted long for the price.

Ice Maker Doesn't Last
The ice maker only lasted for about 7 months and now it is not working at all. When we turn it on, it will not make any ice. The internal motor is not coming on and no ice is being made. The unit was loud at times and when the ice was made, it would make a loud banging noise as it fell into the bucket. For the price, you get ice for a few months and then the unit goes out. Not worth buying.

Waste of money
I've only had this for 6 months and this is the fourth time I have used it it is already malfunctioning. It's just making small little bits of ice that melt immediately I have it set to the large ice cubes I should have read the reviews before I purchased

Only works for a year
It worked awesome for about a year and then started spitting pebble-sized ice bits that melt immediately. Wish it lasted longer.

As shown in the pictures I reached in to grab the plastic container not knowing that the ice has Freon still left and burnt my knuckles and now I have permanent scarring...
The compressor stopped cooling the unit when used on 06/14. I went to get the ice that was made and the gas/free on (a chemical that is used to to compress and chill components). Leaked compression fluid and burnt/ froze my knuckles.. if I need to get a doctor before I will do so but I'm looking for reimbursement.. please escalate this to your team cuz I'm providing photos of the injury

Very Convenient
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Whirpool Icemaker free for my honest review from Influenster. This is very helpful to use filtered water and create ice cubes. I just don't have a lot of counter space but this works very well for my needs. I just wish the ice cubes would be made faster.

Don't Buy
I got this as a Christmas gift 12/25/2024 it is now 5/18/2025 and it is done. It started building up this red film and ice started tasting like mildew. I turned it off and wiped the inside and sure enough it was milddew. It gets really loud after a while, which is annoying. The ice try stopped working and when its full it keeps making ice and it gets stuck. I would not buy this product.

Worked great until it didn't
I am like a previous purchaser and bought this a couple years ago. Mine just failed and it's also the sensor that detects that the bin is full. It was a great ice maker and I loved that it had the option of 2 different sizes. It is terrible that the entire machine needs to be junked so soon and that there aren't replacement parts.

When it Worked it Worked Great!
This was purchased about two years ago from Target. Very Easy to set up and use. The problem is after a little more than two years of use it has quit. Apparently there is a part that costs about $0.06 that has failed. There is an eye that crosses the bin to let it know that it is full. Well that eye has failed so the machine thinks that the bin is full all the time. The second you turn the machine on it fails. not worth the aggrevation of getting it fixed as the item is less than $200 but I will never purchase one again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews for this product which impacted how I use this. This is not an ice maker I use for day to day purposes, but rather something I use when hosting. With that in mind, it works exactly the way I need it to. It’s light weight and quiet. I wouldn’t recommend for daily use, but when you need a large amount of ice it’s great!

Broke after less than a year.
I purchased this 6/2024. Today is 2/9/2025 and it no longer works. It will not stop telling me that it needs more water although it is full. Apparently this is a VERY common issue and unfortunately not really fixable. Bummed as it is pretty pricy.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently received this product for free from Influenster and am very grateful. Our fridge ice machine recently broke, so this machine has been a saving grace. It makes fast, high quality ice bullets in a variety of sizes and even comes with a scooper. However, it’s relativity heavy, takes up counter space, and is loud. Overall it gets the job done, but I likely wouldn’t repurchase it on my own. As for durability I haven’t had any issues thus far, however would like to see how it holds up after an extended period of time. Hopefully this helps!

Amazing machine, soft ice!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very sturdy and heavy weight ice maker. It feels likes it’s out to do it’s job. AND IT SURE DID! The machine is sleek and not at all noisy. The noise level for what it’s doing is pretty tolerable. It was easy to clean and you can see the drain hole sticker from the picture. I kid you not…this machine made its first batch of ice in 5 mins. So I think the time for each batch is 5-6 mins. Which is amazing! Basket is full in no time. The ice I made was small but there is a setting for large as well. Now let’s talk about the chew test. IT IS SO SOFT!!!!! This will definitely help me out with my ice chewing addiction. Overall it’s a great machine and checks all the right boxes for me. I LOVE IT!
