About the Book

The old and wise teacher dragon, Lumea, is globe trekking with his newest student, Tanarul, to meet the Greater and Lessor Dragons of history, and share their encounters with humans, and lessons learned.

Book Synopsis

What if dragons never vanished-only waited?

In the mist-shrouded mountains of Romania, the ancient dragon Lumea-Veche shares a secret: dragons were never myths. They simply learned to hide from the humans of a world that no longer wanted wonder.

Now, young Tanarul, a curious dragon barely two hundred years old, begins his journey across continents and centuries, guided by a master teacher and a heart full of questions. Along the way, he meets Argus dragons with glowing wings, sea-dwelling giants who speak with dolphins, but along with them, a young human named Lucian.

Though the dragons have shunned the human world, he proves to be a rare individual-brave, kind, and curious-who bridges the two worlds. Their new friendship shapes history in ways no legend can.

Together, they explore truths buried beneath legends, including the real tale behind St. George and the dragon, the fire that burns within every creature, and what it truly means to be both powerful and kind.

"Myths No More" is the first in The Dragons of Romania series-a richly illustrated adventure for readers of all ages who still believe in magic, mystery, and stories that breathe fire.

Review Quotes

"5 Stars - A great choice for dragon enthusiasts of any age!," By Maggie Knapp - April 29, 2017 Librarian

Dragon-lovers are in for a treat! DRAGONS OF ROMANIA struck me as a sort of field guide for learning more about different types of dragons, from the highly imaginary, to those from literature, the Bible, and even Ollie (for those of my generation, who remember Kukla, Fran and Ollie from TV.) Author Charlie Rose ties the story together as elder dragon/teacher Lumea instructs dragon/student Tanarul and others in the history of dragon lore. Illustrator Dan Peeler's detailed black and white illustrations bring the dragons to life. They appear every 5-8 pages or so, adding lively visuals of the Tatzelworm Dragon, the Ghimpat, the speedy Fulger dragon, and many more.

Author Charlie Rose researched dragon lore in Romania and elsewhere, and his attention to details is apparent in the writing. The book includes a short glossary of Romanian terms. This book is the first in The League of Dragons series. A great choice for middle grade fantasy enthusiasts, or anyone of any age who wants to know more about dragons from literature, myth and the imagination.

Review by Michelle Kelly

Parents and Educators on the hunt for young adult books; wait until you see what Dragons of Romania has to offer. First, it is a tremendous fictional read with good quality characters. Teacher (Lumea-Veche) and student (Tanarul) are the main focal point on a journey to learn the history of dragons; what's fact and what's myth. Their respectful relationship is very similar to one we saw grow in a certain wizard tale. As we, the readers, follow their journey we learn nonfiction facts about our Earth and world history, ecology, climatology, geography, and even endangered species. Oh, and have you heard of a dragon who has a cave full of computers and is capable of communicating to humans world-wide? Yes, even safety on the internet is covered. As a reptile and amphibian conservation enthusiast, I cannot speak highly enough about the lessons Dragons of Romania has to teach us. I cannot wait to read the next book, until then, happy reading.
