He likes the variety of pencils he can use and the eraser and pencil sharpener that is included. He likes the hexagonal shape of the pencils so they don’t roll away and also makes them easier to hold. They’re clearly labeled so you know exactly what to use.

They’re perfectly weighted and just the right thickness. She loves all of the different pencils, shades, density, and overall variety. The set comes with plenty of options for a very reasonable price for a starting artist or a trained pro. It includes a basic sharpener but no storage set. Highly recommended.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the Staedtler pencils. I particularly liked the combination of the different grades of pencils curated in the kit. They offered a nice value range with soft lights and darker strokes. The set up of a kit with different pencil types introduced me to pencils I may have not picked up otherwise. Additionally I was able to get a sharp point with the included sharpener and the eraser did not smudge the lead. The pencils themselves are very durable and sturdy.

The colors came out smooth from bright to dark. Able to easily handle lines, shade to fate out. Perfect tools to draw with no heavy feeling. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I primarily create art in colored pencil, but I love working in graphite as well. I was in need of some new drawing pencils and really wanted to try this brand. Based on the description I thought I was getting a set of graphite pencils but was surprised to find that this set included graphite, graphite aquarelle, and charcoal which provided me the opportunity to explore new media options. The set includes 2H, HB, 2B, and 4B graphite pencils, 4B, 6B, and 8B Aquarell, and H and M charcoal pencils, a white rectangular eraser, a pencil sharpener, and a water brush. Other than needing paper, to truly explore any of these mediums, an artist may want to add other pencils of varying hardness, blending stumps, a kneaded eraser, and perhaps charcoal of various types to achieve even more depth/range of color, but this set is a really great assortment of materials of really nice quality. To test out the graphites, I created the sea turtle using the graphite and dry aquarelle pencils. The pencils are wonderful quality and a pleasure to use, and I was able to create a wonderful range of depth. Using the Aquarell pencils as a wet medium was a more challenging experience. I used 184 lb Mixed Media paper for each drawing. I haven't explored watercolor much, so I was very unsure about how to best use the pencils, or if my paper selection would be a good choice for the product. (I wanted to use the same mid-toothed, medium weight paper for each piece to hopefully compare product results fairly). The first ear I uploaded was done using only the Aquarell pencils. I found that wetting the graphite did a fantastic job of eliminating the shine of the B pencils and nicely darkened the graphites's color. However, I was getting streaky results. It tinted the paper somewhat and made it more difficult to lift color than just using regular graphite. I struggled to lighten parts of the piece, especially since my lightest color was a 4B; however, after layering dry Aquarell over the foundation created by the wet allowed me to eradicate most of the streaks. I feel that using watercolor paper would probably yield even better results. Finally, I used the two charcoal pencils to create my 2nd ever charcoal drawing. I created another ear to compare the darkness levels between the aquarelle and the charcoal. They were easily blendable and lifted nicely with the use of the eraser. I was really pleased with the shading I was able to achieve despite not having a white charcoal pencil for easy highlights. I again used blending stumps to smooth the drawing and used erasers to lift highlight areas. I really enjoyed this drawing; the materials were a joy to work with. Note that sandpaper is the best way to sharpen your charcoal pencils. I tried using the provided sharpener, and while it did wonderfully for the graphite, it ate the charcoal pencils. Luckily I had some sandpaper and was able to get a point back. The charcoal pencils allow for easy shading, but where they really shine is in creating precise details. It was quite easy to draw fine hairs with them. This drawing set was a joy to use. All of the pencils held their points well and blended beautifully. My only struggle was with using the Aquarell as a wet medium. I'll need more practice to learn how to better blend and avoid streaks. I loved the opportunity to create these pieces and really enjoyed using Staedtler products; they are designed with quality in mind and are wonderful tools for artists of all levels of experience.

It has four Lumograph pencils, two charcoal pencils and three aquarell pencils. It also comes with a water brush for watercolor-like shading effects. It’s easy to unscrew and add water. The pencils are lightweight but sturdy. They sharpen easily with the included metal sharpener. The eraser is soft and flexible and works well enough. I am going to find a small pencil bag to store the set, as it does not include one. Overall, a good value set for anyone who likes to sketch.
