With this particular mix I used ground beef, chopped onions, jalapeños, and bell peppers. I browned and seasoned the meat before cooking and used a slow cooker to cook for six hours. The chili didnt come out scorching, but the mix played well with the ingredients I used. The flavor wasn't overpowering but provided a well rounded flavor. If anything, I feel that adding more heat to the mix would benefit this mix as the only knock against this mix is that it's not quite hot enough.

It gave it a nice kick and nice hint of heat. I love how easy these packets make it to make a home cooked meal. All I really had to worry about was cooking the meat and veggies, then tossed in the packet with the cans. I will definitely be buying this again!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Typically I wing it with my chili's and often go easy on the spice for my kids (adding it back in later when serving with hot sauce), however this time I used the recipe on the back of the package as a guide. After cooking the meat, I felt that with only one can of beans and one can of diced tomatoes that it wasn't balanced enough. So I doubled up on the tomatoes and beans, as my autistic child will typically only eat the beans from a chili. I also had some bell pepper slices that needed to be used so I diced them and added them. I used a crockpot, and headed off to soccer. Upon returning about 1.5 hrs later I felt the chili was very runny, so added in some masa to thicken it. As for taste, I liked the spice but thought it was probably a heat preferred more by adults or older kids. My autistic teen said they liked the ground beef element as opposed to beef or chicken chunks and that the spice was fine, my 10 yr old said the spice was perfect but did not return for seconds, my 7 year old thought it was too spicy. I served mine and my spouses' with cheese on top and no noodles, and my kids had theirs divided by component and they could mix it as they wished to cut the heat or eat to their preferences. I thought is was alright for flavor, but when I use this again I will definitely go by my own recipe rather than the one on the package.

It definitely saved me a lot of preparation time in measuring out ingredients as I normally would when making a pot of chili. The combination of ingredients is also very similar to my normal recipe. The only thing knocking the rating down to four stars is lack of heat. I would have preferred more of a kick. Perhaps additional cayenne pepper or jalapeño powder? I can certainly add that myself but if you don't have those ingredients in your pantry then you'll have to stick with the mild taste.
