Q: I bought one and opened it and it was like jello. I added water to it to see if that would help and It was still chunky. Any tips?

  • A: I use this on extremely wet hair after showering. A tiny bit rubbed between my palms and apply to all hair. Scrunch after with towel to remove excess water. Leaves hair defined with curl. It is supposed to be thick. A little goes a long way.

    A staple in my hair routine!

    Amazing, but the trick is using a small amount on

    At first, this gel weighed my hair down until I learned how to use it. My secret from experience: use a tiny amount on soaking wet hair. When used like that it leave curls perfectly defined, shiny, and completely frizz free. It smells good like coconut.

    Learned to like it!

    I’ve grown to like this product. I had a many of trial and error with it however I learned to appreciate the benefits it provides for my hair. Moisture for days, curl definition and hair strengthen. My hair likes it more than I personally dislike liked it. I use it in the 3 step LOCG or LOGC method and it’s been a least 5 years (consistently) since I’ve been using it. L (liquid) I use org Aloe Vera juice, O (oil or grease) Blue Magic or Coconut Oil, C (cream) SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie G (gel) SM Curling Soufflé

    Gel does not dry down.

    This curling gel smells amazing and I do like the shine and moisture it provides. As far as the hold of the gel, I don’t think I will seek this one out again for a holding / gel agent. The drying time for this gel is extremely long and honestly never dries down to a completely dry state. It gives a “Soul Glo” feel iykyk. I will not be purchasing this in the future.

    The best curly hair product ever.

    I’ve been using this product for years. I bounced around between gels, creams, mousses, you name it. A friend recommended this to me, and I never looked back. I apply a little oil to my ends, then scrunch the gel into towel-dried hair. Then diffuse, and my curls hold for about 2-3 days. With a little refresh spray, I’ve even gotten 4th day curls. I can’t recommend it enough. Smells wonderful, and I get complimented on my curl definition all the time. (I have 3b curls)

    Not the right consistency

    This used to be one of my go to products so I know the consistency well. This most recent one I purchased was actually solid when I got home and opened it. It was not that loose jelly consistency it’s supposed to be. So I will be returning. I was unable to use.

    Your hair will shine like the sun

    Good for those with thicker, coarse hair

    Smells nice. I found it quite thick on my hair so it weighed my hair down, which I did not want. Does have a strong hold on my hair. I do like how it includes natural ingredients, but it just does not work for my hair unfortunately.

    Stiff Where?!

    A gel that doesn’t leave your hair stiff! No crinkle, no white flakes just a nice defined curl! I love pairing this with Shea Moisturizer leave in conditioner. The scent is nice but not overpowering. I will always grab this off the shelf.

    I love this curl smoothie because the scent is just absolutely exquisite and the texture is quite thick without being greasy or too heavy. I recommend leaving in the product to define the girl and then add water to break the crunch.

    Makes my hair look dirty

    I have fine, curly hair with multiple curl patterns. This product makes my hair and neck sticky, and my hair look dirty. My hair doesn't seem to ever fully dry with this product in it either. And even after scrunching the crunch, my hair is still crunchy in areas. I've tried using less and it doesn't help. Definitely do not recommend.

    I thought I was transported back to the 80’s

    I applied this product very sparingly to my freshly shampooed hair and 5 hours later my hair was still wet. My hair felt like I had applied a curl activator product to it. Example products like care free curl or wave nouveau even the next day my hair still felt like I used a product from the 80’s

    Frizz free smooth curls

    I have tried lots of curly hair product to tame my Type 2C curly hair but nothing has worked.My colleague suggested me Shea Moisture products specially the curling gel and I haven’t looked back. 2 months of using this along with their shampoo & conditioner and my hair is smooth,frizz free and easy to tame.Love Shea Moisture products.
