  • A: You could look up the Model of the furnace and probably find the right size. If that doesn't work, you could measure the width of opening where the filter goes in. You could probably tell the difference without measuring between 1" and 4".

  • A: Someone asked about the MERV rating per an email I received from Target. The MERV on this filter is 11. I have had my air filter in for 2+ months and it's still okay. I have severe allergies all year, and these seem to do the best for me.

Filter width changed without proper labeling

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been purchasing 16x25x4 filters for years. 3M recently changed the filter design (thick paper stock casing has no diagonal elements) but also the width. As a result the filter width is 1 centimeter too narrow and thus leaves a gap through which unfiltered air can go into the blower. My observations are consistent with what another user's review from early August 2025 is describing, and their photos clearly show the difference in width between the previous and new designs of the filter. At the very least you should indicate clearly on the label that the filter is narrower than previously. I know you made 2 versions of a 16x25x4 in the past (regular and slim; the regular version fits my furnace). Are you now only making narrow versions?

Dimensions have changed

Even though the dimensions listed on the filter, and advertised on Target, as the same as (many) prior purchases, the actual dimensions are now slightly smaller leaving a gap of space. It is not listed as a slim fit, yet it seems to be. Filtrete is misadvertising or cutting corners. Will no longer be buying.

16x20x4 does not fit Honeywell / Lennox filter box

Buyers beware: The actual size of the 16x20x4 was reduced at some point last couple of years. As the result it doesn't properly fit in Honeywell / Lennox filter boxes, despite the advertisement on the packaging. The filter size used to be 15-7/8" x 19-7/8" x 4-5/16". The new filter size is 15-7/16" x 19-3/4" x 4-5/16", so it is 7/16" (1 cm) narrower than the old filter.

How About a 18x20x1 filter rated 1900?

I need a 18x20x1 1900 filter but Filtrete doesn't make one, settled for a 1500 but not satisfied. Found an Aerostar filter and an evaluating it, but would prefer Filterate for good quality control and honest rating assessment.

Best Filter for Us

This is the only product I purchase for our furnace. I particularly like that it only requires changing once a year. When we changed ours for 2024 we discovered that it could have remained in place longer.

Undersized. Not of advertised value.

Product size states 20x25x4. Inconspicuously designated as slim fit. Actual size is 19.5x24.5x3.25. This is new. I have purchased this product for many years. This is the first time I have encountered this.

Extremely beneficial for my allergies

Upon advice from my doctor to purchase a better a/c filter, I researched and purchased two of these. We quickly noticed a difference in the air quality, my headaches and sneezing are much better now. I am allergic to dust mites and my cats dander - I am extremely impressed. When I clean, there is far less dust accumulated on surfaces in my house which is lovely. After changing the filter recently we found out why - this filter is blocking everything. So great! We are considering investing in higher grades of the Filtrete brand because this one has done so well.

Excellant Filter

I upgraded from the Allergant Protector (also a great filter) just to see if I could tell a difference. I can! The air seems cleaner and it gives me peace of mind knowing that it helps with bateria and viruses.

4 in filter too wide

I purchased this based on the recommendation of my HVAC installer. The filter is TOO WIDE to fit in the AC. The 4 in filter is wider than the "same size" 1 in filter. Are there any narrower options as opposed to slim options i.e thinner.
