Avene Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Skin Barrier Face Cream

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This cream perfectly soothes my skin, I apply it in a night, because it is pretty thick. But it absorbs well and in the morning my skin is fresh and rested. It takes away redness and contains cica and zinc oxide.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Cicalfate+ is a super thick, rich cream that protects soothes and protects delicate skin. It’s perfect for a super dry day to reset your skin’s natural barrier. I love that this is unscented! Downside is that it’s really thick so you need a lot to cover your whole face, and the container is quite small. It would be best utilized as a spot cream for dry patches.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was sent the Avène Cicalfate + Restorative Protective Cream for review, but unfortunately wasn't a fan. The cream was very vague on what it's use was, so I tried using it as an after shower lotion on my legs. I feel the issues I had with it, would be a factor on whatever body part it was used on. The cream was way too clumpy, be it dry or wet skin, you'd have to waste more product to get it to blend, as rubbing it in did nothing to break it down. After the time consuming act of rubbing it into the skin, you'd be left with a white cast that wouldn't fade for hours at a time. The reason I still give it 2 stars over one is that it did indeed do as advertised, I didn't need to reapply due to itchy dry spots, you will stay moisturized after use! It's just the amount you need to apply for this result that's daunting!

The formula has changed. This new version is just horrible. This has been the ONLY cream i can use on my skin when irritated for years now. I suffer with many allergies. This cream was wonderful as it was a thick soothing paste that you could apply yo problem areas like a mask, i would apply it to areas that were irritated or where I was red or had acne, and would sleep overnight with it like a mask on those areas. When i woke up it would still be there as I would not have rubbed it in and i applied it very thick, washing it off, the redness was gone, and acne was calmed and healing. Now however the water in this cream separates and it’s coming put the tube. The actual cream itself is now much thinner and watery, so it can’t be applied like a mask or a thick paste if you don’t want to rub it in, it just runs off your face, it’s horribly greasy and not soothing or calming at all, as of course before it would stay in place all night. I don’t understand why they would change an iconic cream. I originally thought the cream was expired. Such a strange texture now for something that’s supposed to be a protective cream. Can’t image this is good for chapped skin now, or watery and runny. What a terrible shame. I returned two thinking they were expired, now on my third, so i came online to see if the forumla had changed, now I see lots of people online saying the same and how they’ve had to discontinue use. End of an era for me, can’t possibly think what else i would use. Why would anyone want a runny liquid and separated cream when soothing skin though!?!

That’s what I’ve been experiencing lately with the Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream from Avène. I’ve been trying this multi-purpose cream courtesy of @influenster and @aveneusa and am blown away by how well it has cleared up my dry spots. It’s formulated with Avène’s signature Thermal Spring Water, C+ Restore™ (a postbiotic ingredient derived from that water), Zinc Oxide (to protect and support skin healing), and Glycerin for hydration. It can separate a bit, but doesn’t seem to much when stores with the cap up. And it’s likely going to be too heavy for full-face use during the summer. But for winter dry skin, it’s fantastic! And one of the recommended uses I’ve seen lately suggests using it as a dry skin mask, which I will definitely be trying.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received this and I actually liked it. I wasn’t sure what it was but used it as a moisturizer for my hands and dry areas. I love that it’s a cream but doesn’t feel thick when you apply it. It’s unscented and literally just melts into your skin.

Unfortunately, it caused an allergic reaction. I’m now on day 4 of recovery. I had done a patch test on the inside of my elbow and under my jawline, and everything seemed fine. But once I applied it to my face—oh boy. My eyes started itching and swelling. After a few days of allergy meds, I’m doing better, but it really shook me. I’m now hesitant to try anything from Avene again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I found the Avène Cicalfate to be gentle on my childs sensitive skin and I like that their is no fragrance. My 5 year old gets a rash on her hands once in a while. I thinks it’s either from eating certain foods ( fast food, or salsa) or its a flare from the hand, foot, and mouth that she caught at school this past winter. She was having a little flare on her hands recently and i put the Cicalfate on her rash and the rash calmed down, I put it on her hands twice a day for about a week. I dont know if the lotion helped, but it didn’t hinder, and it did not cause any type of pain, or burning. Her hands were also looking very dry from the rash and this lotion did help replenish some moisture.

After a hair cut my son had reddish spots and after I applied this, it was gone by the next day. If you suffer from chapped lips 💋 try this, it helped my lips a ton. I now use it every night on my lips. I love that it has no scent.

The only problem I have with it is the texture. It’s a little too heavy and you’d need a bigger amount than other creams in order to cover your face.

This has helped my hand eczema so much!!! As soon as I feel I’m having a flare up, I use this & it goes away!!! There is no scent & it leaves your hands (in my case) slightly oily but not long enough to gripe about.
