Q: Why do they make a the charcoal & matcha shampoo but not a conditioner?

  • A: Hi there! Great question - the Charcoal + Matcha scent is exclusive to The Deep Cleanse clarifying shampoo. Clarifying is a shampoo-specific treatment, since conditioners work to add moisture and seal the hair which is the opposite of what clarifying does. The Deep Cleanse is designed to be used once a week as a standalone treatment to reset the scalp and remove buildup, so after using it you can follow with any of your favorite Raw Sugar conditioners or masks to restore moisture!

  • A: Hi Teresa! You can use a clarifying shampoo on gray hair, but we would advise to use it occasionally (once a week) and to always follow up with a good conditioner or hair mask to restore moisture. We recommend The Moisture Smoothie Hair Mask as a great second step!

    Excellent treatment shampoo

    [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm glad I read the instructions - use only ONCE A WEEK. It works really well. I was having issues with flakes because of how long I went between washes (don't judge, it's hard to manage excessively long hair). One wash with this deep cleanse shampoo and I saw almost no flakes. I've been using it anytime it's been too long between washes and I'm really happy with the results. I only shampoo the roots (which is how you're supposed to wash hair) and the day after my hair will be almost too dry but also extremely soft, to the point it won't stay in a bun. I added pics of my daughters dry before hair and wet after use. She agrees, it's a very nice shampoo.

I get greasy hair very quickly and I do find that this does leave my hair feeling quite fresh and clean after I use it. I limited to once a week because I don’t want it to strip my hair to much but I always feel like I got a good hair day after using it. The bottle is big and holds a good amount and you don’t need that much product. It lathers pretty easily. I just wish that it had a nicer scent. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it’s pretty neutral and I like more fragrant ones but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

The shampoo itself is lightweight and doesn’t weigh my hair down. I felt that it cleansed my hair well and removed the build up of product that is typical when you use gel and hairspray regularly.

    Not Bad

    In general, I think the season depends on how it works with my hair. In the winter, I feel like it makes my hair a bit dry, but I do use treatment and hair oil in tiny amounts any ways so it helps. In the summer, it seems to help more with shampooing my hair. But in general, it is gentle and because it is a clear shampoo without sulfates, I do notice it builds up and it can sometimes make my scalp and hair more oily depending on the season and weather. But not in crazy amounts. But when I notice it builds up I do use a different product and I rotate depending on my condition. I prefer non strong scents or no scents at all but this product is duable sometimes. I think it is less pungent than the other scents in the shampoo line. When I run out of body wash I actually use this product sometimes but it's not bad even on my skin.

It has a pleasant smell - I thought it smelled like green tea with a hint of floral. It was also nicely moisturizing, unlike some clarifying shampoos that strip your hair and leave it super dry.

It does an excellent job cleaning my hair without making it dry. Charcoal and matcha gives an excellent scent and feels so refreshing. Also I love that shampoo lives my hair so soft and light.
