new formula is very different

I loved the Professor Curl bar. It made my 3A curls look great. Unfortunately the new curly shampoo formulation makes my hair look flat and heavy. The new formulation might work for people with tighter curls, but I guess I'll have to try to find a different Ethique bar.

What a difference!

I was skeptical trying shampoo bars with my wavy-curly, thick hair but this shampoo has been a game changer! Helps my waves be more curly and bouncy and also moisturizers to tame the frizz. My new favorite shampoo!

I've used the old version of this shampoo and it was great, and I feel like this new version is good too. I like the shape because I put the cupped side toward my head and it's easier to spread, however I don't know that the new box is compostable like the previous box, and the box is also larger to accommodate the new shape. Like others have said the new larger shape means it no longer fits in the soap dishes that ethique previously sold that were made to fit both the old shampoo and condition bars in the same dish. Luckily I don't use the conditioner bar, so I just store it with the U shape facing up in the old soap dish.

Works great. Strong smell.

Shampoo seems to be gentle and the conditioner moisturizes amazingly. The other bar brand I use is more of a deep clean shampoo and it strips my hair making it extremely dry and frizzy. These bars lather up very easily, but they also do fall apart easier than the other brand I use. The smell is reminiscent of lemon grass oil, and is a stronger scent than I prefer, but not enough to stop me from using it. It doesn't contain any synthetic dyes, but I am hesitant on the minerals they are using to give color to the bars. It would be nice if they just didn't add any colorants that are unnecessarily being removed from their natural environments and accumulating in new ones.

Same Great Formula, Hard to Use Shape

I love the formula for this shampoo! My husband and I both use it regularly, and have been using only ethique shampoo and conditioner for years. Unfortunately, I'm not loving the moon shape. It's fun to look at! But it's awkward to apply to hair, and it no longer fits in the rectangle containers from ethique that we've been using for years. I have no idea how I'm meant to store this awkward thing for travel, which has been one of the advantages of ethique bars. Honestly not sure what we will be doing for shampoo moving forward.

Love the smell and longevity!!

I think the new shape is cute and I love the smell! The bars also last forever! I took the video I posted about a month ago, but it's been about 4 months since I got the bar and it seems like it might even last 4 more months!! I'll add a photo of what it looks like currently. I miss how the old packaging felt like it was made of cardboard while the new packaging is kinda shiny (which im wondering how thats possible since it's plastic-free). Using this shampoo with the curl defining conditioner always leaves my hair feeling soft and healthy. So excited I no longer have to buy shampoo and conditioner in plastic bottles :D P.S. Ethique, if you ever come out with gel or mousse in a sustainable container like aluminum, I'll be sure to buy that right up!

Love the new formula!

I have always loved ethique's curl-defining shampoo, so I was a little nervous when the packaging and formulas went through a small change. I have been so pleasantly surprised - This shampoo lathers even better than the last, making it easier to fully wash my hair. It hydrates my curls, and it smells divine!

Perfection

I absolutely love every Ethique shampoo and conditioner bar that I have tried so far and the curl-defining shampoo bar is no exception. I love the fresh lemongrass scent! Now that the weather is becoming much more humid here in the south, I thought I would try this bar. It delivers moisture and tames my coarse wavy hair! It totally eliminates frizz as well even if you spend hours outdoors! I don't even need conditioner, but I am definitely purchasing the matching conditioner!

Why did you change the shape???

I actually switched to Ethique from HiBAR, because the teardrop shape of that shampoo bar was so impractical. First, I tried aerated soap sacks, which resulted in the bar becoming mushy and useless way too quickly. Then, I tried keeping them in their cardboard packaging, but the packaging disintegrated quickly. Ultimately, I switched to Ethique, which was a great quality shampoo bar in a normal, square shape. I bought the Ethique container with the ventilated bottom, and it worked like a charm. Now why on earth have you all have picked some other quirky & difficult-to-store shape for your formerly travel-friendly, gym shower tote-friendly shampoo bar? I just reordered and was super disappointed to find my new shampoo bar no longer fits the contained I bought from you. Sure, it looks neat, but it's totally impractical and not as easy to use. How am I supposed to hold it? Like a handle? Then I'm rubbing the narrowest part on my hair. Broadside? It flips around in your hand. And how is this going to wear down? With an awkward hole in the middle of the broadside or the wide part of the moon? Please reconsider this. It's a horrible design. Please also offer a travel container that actually fits the two bars I just bought, at least until you come to your senses and switch back. Here's hoping...

Way too much residue

I buy a 6 to 12 month supply of shampoo bars at a time. I previously was buying the professor curl on its counterpart. I loved them. The last time I had to buy this product instead. I have to say I don't love it. There's so much residue. It has plugged the drain in my shower twice in a month. It's fine on my hair, but it's murder on my plumbing. I wish ethic would go back to the previous formulas.

Good product- bad shape

I like the new formulation that was made for this bar, I definitely feel like it lathers better and I don't need to use as much of it to clean my hair. My biggest con is that the shape is SO BIG. It takes up at least 2x as much space as the previous design and no longer works with my Ethique bar storage container. Which was specifically purchased this year for my Ethique bars... this new shape is not compatible with any previous ethique storage devices. Frustrating.

Overall good shampoo

I've been using this product for ~2 years now, and I'm very satisfied with how soft my hair feels after using it! The new bar shape is also nice to quickly lather the entire scalp. The new packaging contains metallic decals and has the "recycling" symbol on the bottom as opposed to any of the more classic "compositing" symbols, but I have been assured by customer service that the packaging is still safe for home composting.
