Q: The indicator light is flashing red and green. I tried to reset the filter, but no matter how long I press the button, it’s still flashing. Is it because the battery is not working? But I couldn’t figure out how to replace the battery.

Initially, you could have possibly thought you pressed for 5 seconds when you replaced the filter and got the green light flashing 3 times, which only checks the status of the filter and doesn't reset the indicator. Q: Two questions: 1. Does the Brita Tahoe Pitcher remove fluoride? I'm reluctant to do that given its health benefits. 2. Is this made from a stable form of plastic that doesn't leach contaminants?

A: Hello there, Deb; these are good questions. Our filters aren't designed to reduce fluoride. Our blue Elite filters don't reduce fluoride from tap water, and our white Standard filters reduce less than 5% of fluoride from tap water. To your other question, the reservoir of our Tahoe Pitcher along with the pitcher itself is from Polystyrene. The handle and lid is made from ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene). These materials don't contain any polycarbonate or any phthalates, and all of our products are tested and certified by NSF International and/or WQA for both material safety and filtration performance. A: Ayanna, thank you for reaching out about the timer on our Tahoe Pitcher. Your timer may need to be reset as the red light should come on with the Elite filter after 6 months or 120 gallons. If the indicator is on the top of your pitcher’s lid: Press and hold down the STATUS button. Hold it there for 2 seconds if you’re using a white filter or 6 seconds if you have a blue filter. Release the button when the green light next to your filter icon flashes three times by itself. If the indicator is on the underside of your pitcher’s lid: Under the icon for your filter type, press and hold down the reset button for 5 seconds. It's how we have our daily drinking water. With the Elite Filter, you can replace every 6 months. The water pitcher feels high quality. And it can be put into the fridge to get the cold water. This model features a SmartLight indicator that takes all the guesswork out of filter replacement. Green means the filter is good, yellow signals it’s almost time to replace, and red means it’s time for a new one. No more wondering if your water is being properly filtered! The Elite Filter is designed to last up to six months, which is perfect for me as the sole user. I’m expecting to get the full lifespan out of it with no problem. Compared to the basic Brita filter I was using before, this one noticeably improves the taste and clarity of the water. One thing to note — though not a dealbreaker — is that you’ll need to fill the basin twice to completely fill the pitcher. It’s a minor inconvenience considering the overall benefits. It still tastes a bit chemically, but it's a marked improvement. I love how large the pitcher is! It holds so much water (10 cups) and doesn't have to be filled as much as the standard size. When I opened it, I was a little overwhelmed by the setup. You have to pour out the first three full fills of water before you can actually use it, which definitely takes a while. I like my water room temp and was tired of constantly buying water bottles and dealing with the mess. But honestly, this isn’t very family-friendly. One full tank barely fills two regular cups. Does it work? Sure. But with the small capacity and time-consuming setup, and constant refills. I don’t think it’s worth the hassle.

I’ve had this pitcher since December. I’ve changed the filter every single time the light comes on, but today when I went to change it I noticed a green algae like film covering the inside of half of the pitcher. There’s also some growing in the button inside the lid. I refill this thing multiple times per day - a google search says it’s because I keep my pitcher on the counter where it sometimes gets sunlight. Would have been nice to know you can’t store it on the counter if you don’t live in the dark.

As a couple that live in Pennsylvania we have well water and we never know just how "clean" it is. I'm happy to add this Brita Filtering pitcher to my household. It fits perfectly in my fridge door, so now I can clear out all my water bottles and have more room in there. I do like that the filters are replaceable every 6 months, and the light kets you know its time to change out.
