Maker itself, good. Coffee pot? Sucks.

So, I’ve had this now for about 2 years. Here is my honest review. I REALLY like the coffee maker. Not love though. lol. The carafe on the other hand SUCKS. The materials used to make this “pretty” are so subpar it’s ridiculous. I hand washed all parts and the handle STILL started chipping in under 6 months. It’s so bad now that I have to be careful how I pick it up because things (pieces of metal?) are starting to stick out. AND… to top that off, things are even chipping in-between where the coffee comes out and where the pot/lid goes. Noticed that when wiping everything down one day. ARE YOU LISTENING GE? I’d much rather have a coffee maker that I can put the carafe, lid and filter holder in the dishwasher than a carafe that I had to wash by hand and still looks like crap now. I mean… it looks BAD. The coffee maker itself is good! I love the fact that I can fill up the water and only brew what I need. Really like the gold setting! Love that it has wifi so we can use that on the weekends before getting out of bed. The controls are easy to use and it’s easy to program. JUST FIX THE DANG COFFEE POT!

Almost gave it three stars just for the look, but that’s not why anyone buys a coffee machine. We buy coffee machines to make coffee. This coffee machine brews too quickly and the coffee is weak. We are also on our second machine. Our first one stopped working two months into having it. Unfortunately, we were told our warranty doesn’t start over…for a new product… Our first machine also didn’t get very hot. This new one seems to get hot.

We'd like to help offer tips for getting a better brew out of your coffee maker. This coffee maker is regulated for temperatures between 185 and 205° F. It is recommended to brew between 195 to 205° F for best flavor extraction. For altitudes over 5000 feet, use 185° F to prevent water from boiling. The type of coffee and freshness is a large factor in the flavor, taste and aroma of brewed coffee. The grind size of the coffee is for brewing using the drip method. You can view additional brewing tips on page 11 in the user manual here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--7AYSkUUx--/j9ps7cfsqfoecc02numn.pdf

I like the coffee pot a lot. I picked it because it was white and I changed everything in my kitchen, so I looked at this one watched some reviews. Some people liked it. Something didn’t the only thing that I didn’t like about it is that it doesn’t get the coffee very hot. I turned it up all the way and it is not very hot at all so that’s the downfall it needs to be hotter. I shouldn’t have to heat it up in the microwave. Other than that I love all the features.

Continuing Problems + Terrible Warrant Policy

In September 2024 I received a replacement of the same model after complaining of design flaws that caused the coffeemaker's basket to overflow every time I brewed coffee. It caused bitter tasting coffee, and requiring extensive cleaning of the basket, heat pad and stationary parts of the coffee maker, as well as my counter top on many occasions. Additionally, the screw-on lid to the carafe was very tight and very difficult to turn to remove or lock in. I was required to send photos and videos of the issues. This was during my warranty period and was told refunds were not permitted. My only remedy was a replacement of the same model. I inquired whether they had addressed these design issues and upgraded this model, and was told they had not. They also required they receive my malfunctioning coffee maker BEFORE they would ship the replacement. After some protest on my behalf, they did agree to ship and allow me to return once the new coffeemaker was received. The new coffeemaker immediately had the same grounds running over basket issues. The screw top to the carafe was now quite loose, but functioned just fine. I brew coffee every day, and 2 out of every 5 I must unplug the unit to lean it on it's side to clean out all the grounds from crevasses. Immediately after brewing I strain the coffee from the carafe into a large glass pitcher to reduce the grounds and bitter flavor caused by the grounds. I would not buy this coffeemaker again, and avoid future purchases from GE because of the labor intensive photo, video, and explanation pollcy just to get a replacement. It was time intensive and quite ridiculous. You treat every customer as though they are a criminal. Below is a box for uploading images/videos - it does not allow anything to be uploaded.

We're sorry to hear about the coffee maker overflowing. We'd like to help offer some troubleshooting tips that can prevent this from happening. We recommend the use of a minimum of a medium grind coffee. Any finer grind than that can lead to overflow of coffee grounds. We also recommend to use the provided scoop with a flush level of grounds. Heaping scoops can lead to too much grinds/coffee grounds and potentially cause overflows. We also suggest not using a paper filter and the mesh filter together.

This model stopped working at 10 months, we were under warranty, and Cafe Appliances asked us to ship it back and they've now had it for a month with no communication back for a month. People who drink coffee won't go without a coffee maker for 3 months. I would not recommend purchasing as it is an unreliable product and customer care is not responsive. It's unfortunate because the products are beautiful!

We bought this coffee maker to match our other GE Cafe Appliances. Extremely disappointed with this product. You cannot brew more than 6 cups of coffee without making a complete mess. The grinds will overflow into the carafe. Furthermore, the coffee doesn't stay hot for more than 30 minutes. Furthermore Part II there's trapped liquid (water or coffee) in the carafe. There's a swishing noise.
1 reply from Cafe_Appliances team - 3 months ago
We want to help go over the overflow and grounds going into the carafe. There is always going to be a small amount of coffee grounds and oils that splash back onto the showerhead lid when the maximum level of coffee grounds is used. We're going to provide some tips that can help prevent the grounds from entering the carafe. Your coffee maker comes with a gold mesh basket filter in the brew basket insert. You can use a No. 4 paper filter instead, but using both the mesh filter and a paper filter will cause grounds to overflow into the basket insert or could splash coffee grinds and residue on the underside of the lid. We also recommend using a medium-grind coffee, when possible. A finer grind is more likely to lead to an overflow of coffee grounds. We also recommend using the scoop that comes with your coffee maker, and use a flush level of grounds. Heaping scoops can lead to too much coffee grounds and can potentially cause overflows. If you are still experiencing issues, we suggest checking your warranty information for additional assistance. This machine makes great coffee. However it ceased working 2 months in. No heat (not even the carafe plate) and coffee does not brew. We spent an hour on the phone only to be told we'd "get an email with further instructions." It's been over a week, and no email. I send an email to GE support and the only response is to call back to the 800# so the same people will also not help us again. Oh and btw, the service number in the manual for the coffee maker is wrong. I hate companies who run around on clearly warranty issues. Just honor your warranty GE.
