A: Sadie, This product does get warm when in use. It is advised to always unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. In addition, the manual also states users should allow the product to cool before cleaning or handling.

Q: The browning dial on the toaster is very loose and easy to spin. Doesn't seem to stay at one level or click into place. Is this right??

A: This product does not have a retractable cord. However you can wrap the cord on the bottom of the unit if you wish to expose less of it on your countertop.

A: Fred, This toaster has an "Extra- Life Carriage Control Lever" which helps bring the items near the top of the toaster to assist with the removal of the smaller slices of bread.

Q: does the bagel setting toast both sides of the slice? Can it be adjusted to only toast the sliced side?

A: Bagel eater, this toaster offers a "bagel" selection option but that option pertains to the time needed to toast this type of thicker bread. There is not an option to toast only the sliced side. Having said that, I am a bagel lover myself and have been very pleased with this toaster.

Bagel setting still toasts both sides
On every toaster I've ever used, the bagel setting is used to toast only one side of the bread. On this Cuisinart, it still toasts both sides but adds a bit of extra time. That seems crazy to me. I can add extra time myself by adjusting the dial. I verified this in the instructions. "The bagel feature adds extra time to the toasting cycle to allow for thicker breads." I specifically looked for a toaster with a bagel function to toast only only. It wasn't until I started using this Cuisinart that I discovered it doesn't behave that way. Also, it doesn't include a crumb tray. You must turn it upside down and shake it. At this price point would expect a crumb tray.

Toasts evenly and satisfactorily
This toaster meets our needs. Toasts evenly. I like the simple basic features. The dial to select the doneness has to be set at the maximum setting to get the results we like. Sometimes, I repeat the toasting cycle to achieve the doneness we like. I need to use tongs to get the toast out.

Love my toaster, even toasting. Just wish it had a retractable power cord and a way to grasp it, as I keep it the the pantry. The older Cuisinart toaster I had had a lip in the front to grasp it and To pull it out easier.

Great Toaster!
The 2 slice toaster works great. It has larger slots and different settings for bagels and reheat. The temperature number settings are easy to use. Toast, english muffins and bagels come out evenly. The toaster looks sleek too and a nice addition sitting next to my Cuisinart coffee maker. I have had good experiences with Cuisinart appliances and when a new toaster was needed, I went with a Cuisinart and very happy with it.

Disappointed in the toaster so far.
We bought this toaster mainly because of the brand. We have other Cuisinart products and have been very pleased with them. This toaster is not performing the way we thought it would. We toasted bagels, using the bagel setting and low number and they came out toasted on both side and burnt. The toasting was uneven, too. Browner on the top than on the bottom.

Cuisinart Toaster CPT-160P1
Thru trial and tribulation, the CPT-160 toaster is not meant for toasting single pieces of bread. Unfortunately, the replacement for my original purchase was the same model with the same problems!? Only one side gets toasted and isn't uniform. Either the corners are untoasted or it's toasted in the middle of the bread. I'm sure toasting two slices of bread will have the same results, as I've switched slots... to no avail.

Quality is not there and more
So disappointed in this Cuisinart - I decided to get a very well known name product and expected excellence but this expensive toaster feels cheap - I would have been better getting one from a charity shop. The dial knob is VERY loose so the toast never comes out the same and I need to pop it down numerous times, this is not a simple task because it does not pop up easily. There is a strange smell sometimes and I question the safety. How does a company so well known produce a product like this and sell it for such a high price. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN CUISINART.

A toaster has one job
I am disappointed with the two slice toaster. Cuisinart brand has had a certain reputation for better quality products. I have used an Cuisinart electric kettle for years and love it. When our old toaster quit working I read reviews on different brands and ultimately decided to try this classic two slice toaster. It has one job, to toast. Setting it on 5 and putting it through the cycle twice just to get tanned bread is frustrating. I decided to try using the bagel setting for sliced bread as it would be in there a little longer and it still wasn’t right. At a 5 setting the bread should be dark! My old toaster setting at three was perfect. Please work on your design flaws. A toaster should be simple and do its one job. Please raise the bar once again and sell reliable products like you used to.

Replacement of toaster
I purchased this toaster based on the previous model that had a similar model number. I figured this was the u-new model number for the same older toaster and I was right. The old one only lasted 30-40 years and new one toasts better with easy to use settings. I probably wont last as long as the new toaster LOL
