  • A: Hi there Sally! Garnier Nutrisse 100, Extra-Light Natural Blonde (Chamomile), is our lightest natural blonde shade. Its not an ash tone, but the natural version of an extra light blonde, Shade 100 is best for anyone with natural hair between light blonde and light brown. For the same color but with an ‘ash’ tone, use the shade 111 Extra-Light Ash Blonde (White Chocolate).

Q: my hair is naturally super dark brown but right now i have blonde highlights on my hair, i’m wanting to dye my hair back black but i don’t want the black to have any blue undertones, what would be the best color option of box dye for me?

submitted by alederle1 - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! When dying over highlights, the highlights absorb color much easier than the rest of your hair, which makes it difficult to rid your hair of multiple color tones. For the best assistance, our Virtual Beauty Consultants can help make shade recommendations and answer other hair coloring questions. They can be reached by texting “BeautyChat” to 827438 from your phone. Hope this helps!

Q: I'm currently using 600 Deep Light Neutral Brown as I don't want any brassiness. I would like something in a similar shade but golden instead of neutral. What shade would you recommend?

submitted by Dawn - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi there Dawn. For a color similar to the Nutrisse Ultra Coverage 600 Deep Light Neutral Brown that has some gold, use the Nutrisse Ultra Coverage shade 630 – Deep Light Golden Brown. However, if your hair tends to look brassy when dyed, using a color with gold can enhance the tendency to turn brassy.

  • A: Hi Dawn! Based on the current shade you are using, Medium Golden Brown would be a good option if you would like to add a bit of golden color to your hair. Hope this helps!

Q: I have blonde hair right now will this be a good choice to dye my hair back to my natural color which is brown?

submitted by dog - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi there! Going darker over hair lightened to a blonde can be tricky. If the hair is dark blonde or darker you can easily go to a medium brown with no problem. On hair lighter than a dark blonde there is the very real risk of discoloring the hair to a gray, green, pink or purple. To get a custom blend you can mix at home to get a natural looking darker result on hair lightened to a yellow blonde, call our 800# to speak to one of our haircolor specialists. Q: I have dark brown hair do you have a dye without bleach than can lighten my hair

submitted by Jenny305 - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Jenny305. These shades do not contain bleach. You can typically lighten your hair by using a shade two shades lighter than your current hair color. We recommend following the instructions included in the box. If you’re looking for more assistance, our Virtual Beauty Consultants can help make shade recommendations and answer other hair coloring questions. Use the “Chat with a Virtual Beauty Consultant” button on any beauty product page to launch or text “BeautyChat” to 82738 from your phone. Hope this helps!

  • A: Hey there Jenny305! There are options for lightening dark brown hair but with limits. If you don’t have gray to cover and don’t need to lighten dyed hair, we have high lift color made specifically for lightening dark hair like yours (without bleaching). Use colors from the Nutrisse Ultra Color collection. To go to a light brown/ dark blonde, use the HL1 bright toffee. While there are more options for medium brown hair, for dark brown and darker, to go any lighter than a light brown/ dark blonde requires a bleach lightener.

  • A: Hi there Danny! Dark hair like yours is harder to lighten. We know that, so we made a collection of haircolors just for the special needs of natural dark hair. To get a light golden brown result on very dark brown hair, use the Nutrisse Ultra Color B3, "Golden Brown" or the Nutrisse Ultra Color HL1, "Bright Toffee". These colors have more lift than a conventional hair dye and special pigments that work best on dark hair.

submitted by Thomas - 4 years ago

I have been using darkest brown sweet cola for years. I was in the army for 12 years and it even went with me on deployments. I usually stock up a few times a year since i go through a box every two weeks and I’m so upset that i didn’t buy more before the change. The color is horrible now, it is WAY lighter than before and it has a weird tint to it. My hair feels awful after the first wash and makes my scalp super oily. I thought maybe it was just a bad batch so i went and got a different box thinking it wouldn’t happen again…..i was WRONG!!! This is awful and now i have to go find a new brand. I’m so sad

I have used the old formula for years. This new formula turned orange in the developing stage per 800 # that is correct. Wow I dyed my hair and wow it left my scalp red//orange and my hair turned out more red than burgundy. Hate the color of my hair now. Change is never good. Go back to the old formula. Use at your own risk......

Have used this brand for decades, but this specific color for 16 years now. The recent change is very disappointing. I have carpel tunnel and my mom has arthritis and this had made it nearly impossible for either of us to use anymore. It doesn't mix well, and as another user said it's virtually impossible to get out and it has a green tint the color of moss. This was not the case before and I HATE IT NOW. Makes me very sad I will need to find another color and brand, but I can't take it anymore. My hands ache after just applying it just doesn't look right.

I have been using this product for years while it was called #40 Dark Chocolate Brown, until the product was recently changed to #40 Dark Brown. I don't know what changes you made as it's packaged as "New", but it hardly covers. I typically got at least 5 weeks before having to recolor, but with the change, it colors my grays to a light blonde and I have to recolor in just over a week. I've given it two tries and no improvement. I can't use this product with these poor results. Change it back. I'll be looking for a new brand.

Why Did You Change the Formula??

I've been using Garnier Nutrisse hair color for 20 years, and have always been so pleased with how it works. It didn't damage my hair, it left my hair shiny and silky, and the colors were great. The new re-formulation is terrible. I gave it so many chances with so many different shades, and all made my hair a weird texture and almost orange/yellow. Has nothing to do with my application or color choice as that hasn't changed at all. The only thing that has changed is this product's formula :( I'm genuinely asking you, Garnier, why did you do this and are you going to change it back due to all the complaints? I am using L'Oreal hair color now, but would love to switch back to yours if you can go back to the old formula. Don't fix what isn't broken!! Even hair stylists complimented your formula before. Just trying to give you genuine honest feedback from all the people I know that used your hair color before it changed...

Hello GBC19! We understand being concerned when a product you have used appears different than expected. Nutrisse was recently reformulated as a thicker, non-drip cream. Rolling the tint tube from the end makes it easier to squeeze into the developer bottle. The new formula provides improved richer color, longer lasting high definition color, and better long term coverage of grays. We are sorry that your color result is different than usual. Feedback from our customers is important to us when making decisions about our products. We appreciate your feedback and will be sharing it with others in our company.

Hi CLL63! Thank you for using 30 - Darkest Brown. Our Nutrisse Ultra Crème was recently reformulated. This new non-drip color crème was developed to adapt to all hair textures for even color and better long-term coverage of grays. Rolling the tint tube from the end makes it easier to squeeze into the developer bottle. For your next application we recommend shaking the mixture for 60 seconds. This will ensure that our newly reformulated non-drip cream is thoroughly blended. Your comments will be shared with others in this product group. Thanks for the feedback!

I've been using Nutrisse for years now and absolutely hate this new thicker formula. It doesn't help to shake the product 60 seconds.....it's way too thick to come out of the bottle. I finally had to take the lid off and squirt it into my hand and apply that way. If this isn't changed back, I'll probably go to a new brand. Shame on you for changing!!

The new version of the color "Dark Natural Blond" is nothing like the original version (the original color was perfect). I now have red tints and I didn't have the red tints before they changed it. Now the hair color crème is so thick I can not get it out of the bottle. Don't fix something that did not need fixed. I am going to another brand now.
1 reply from Consumer Care Center team - 17 days ago
Hello Deny. We want to understand what happened just as much as you do. The Nutrisse shade 70, Dark Natural Blonde (Almond Crème) should deliver the same great color in the new version. Nutrisse was recently reformulated as a thicker, non-drip cream. Rolling the tint tube from the end makes it easier to squeeze into the developer bottle. The labs recommend shaking the mixture for 60 seconds both up and down and back and forth to mix fully. The timing is now slightly longer, so be sure follow the new timing in the instructions. Jenai Nyc - 19 days ago
New formula destroyed my hair. Won’t get my entries head and stays in clumps. It dyes extremely fast, but doesn’t stay. So initially you have patches of your old color and the new color, then once it fades super quickly it turns your dyed hair brassy. So awful I changed to loreal preference crème and that has done wonders to fix my hair after this.

Hi there Jenai! We can see this wouldn’t be the result you were hoping for… Nutrisse was recently reformulated as a thicker, non-drip cream. After the second wash why my hair went back to its normal color and I knew something was happening because as I was rinsing my hair I saw the brown washing away. After drying my hair I was so disappointed. This is not permanent color more like a color hair mask. Read the reviews don’t waste your money like I did.

Hello Skye_777. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Nutrisse shade 40 Dark Brown. We want to understand what happened just as much as you do. It is very unusual for a permanent hair dye to wash out when applied per instructions. During the coloring process, the hair shaft opens to take in the pigment and by the end of the timing, it closes back up, permanently locking in the color. Do not purchase this product if you have light brown hair already. It’ll turn your hair black :( not happy at all

Hi there Juliana, We wish this site was showing which color you used, and we want to understand what happened just as much as you do. Always check the color cue on the side panel of the box. Find the Before color that looks the same as your natural hair color, then check the panel to the right showing what the color will look like on that hair. When applying hair dye to previously color-treated hair, we suggest following the Touch Up application and timing to avoid extreme results. By doing repeated full head applications, your initial results will turn out more intense than intended. Daily shampooing can help to gradually fade the excess pigment deposit and lighten the color. If you would like to speak to us directly about your recent purchase, give us a call @ 800-442-7643 9 AM to 5:30 PM ET M - F
