I got the 400 - dark brown color. I've been using this brand for years and have had no issues. It's always done what I wanted it to. If you're worried about the color turing your hair black, do a patch test somewhere in your hair that no one will see and shorten the time it says in the directions (ex, i did 15mins instead of 25mins). I also would like to add that my hair did look like a VERY dark brown, but I'm still happy how it turned out. Hope this helps.

400 Sweet Pecan is my favorite color EVER. Please don’t discontinue it. It’s a nice, deep, neutral dark brown and leaves my hair super shiny and healthy. Covers grays well but you need to leave on gray “new” growth longer than directions suggest, at least 45 minutes to completely set color or it will fade and not color grays. Then pull through the rest of your hair for another 10. Love this color!

Made my hair come out like other comments are saying. It’s also such a mess and doesn’t come off your scalp until you’ve showered at least 3x. My scalp is so itchy and dry because of it also. Would NOT recommend.

I am surprised this product covered all my grays beautifully! And the color hasn’t fade at all like the regular garnier or other brands i have tried that swear 100% gray coverage but they don’t actually cover them. I will keep buying this ultra coverage from garnier i just wish there were more colors available. I am 100% happy with this product and I recommend you to try it I wasn’t paid for my review i bought my own products and i hate paid reviews cause I don’t trust then and are a waste of time.

Hate the new formula!!!!! I’ve been using this hair color for 5+ years and I loved it until now! The new formula is so hard to squeeze out of the bottle, I’m using all my upper arm strength. But what’s worse about it is my hair started falling out since the new formula came out this year. My scalp is itchy and I’m losing so much hair, it’s worse than postpartum hair loss! I switched to Schwarzkopf hair color and absolutely love it so much more!

Garnier dyes are tried and true for me. This one in particular took my hair from a fading magenta cellophane rinse to a gorgeous dark brown. There was plenty of product left over so I didn’t have to worry about not having enough for my long & really thick 3C hair. I loved the way my hair smelled after using it and it looked a lot healthier too. Will be getting this one again when my indestructible grays come back

It didn't cover the grey on my hair. I have low porosity hair (I am white) which means it doesn't absorb color easily. I don't have much grey--a few patches here and there and some strands along my part, so I wasn't trying to cover much, and still this product didn't manage to cover that. Do not recommend for low porosity hair.

While low porosity hair tends to be healthy hair, its harder to penetrate. It holds in its natural moisture well, but at the same time, its harder to open the cuticle to take in the pigment molecules. Much darker than anticipated it would be. I was not able to find 613 so thought this might be a good substitute. It covers gray very well and it seems to be keeping its color very well. Just not the right color for me.

I’m currently going through a divorce and had to stop visiting the salon. I am now having to do my hair from home, which is not ideal. I am not a fan of this. It fades fast and doesn’t cover grays. The color is dull and flat. I’d buy it in a pinch but that’s about it.

A color this dark should certainly color the gray so we want to understand what happened just as much as you do. If you’re new to doing your own hair, when applying hair dye to previously color-treated hair, we suggest following the Touch Up application and timing to avoid extreme results. The new growth gets the dye for the full 30 minutes but the previously dyed hair only gets the mixture in the last 5 minutes of your timing. This will avoid the dull, flat results.
