Unit was easy to install, it made ice right away. Makes plenty of ice for a family of four. Machine is very quiet, compact, and slick looking. My family loves the nugget ice just like the one we get from Sonic.

This machine is so expensive for what it does/the amount of hassle required. The amount of ice it makes is really small (plus it just remelts and remakes it over and over?!), plus it has to be cleaned every 2-3 weeks, which involves a multi-step process where you have to move the machine around multiple times. Sonic sells their ice for $3/bag - it would take years to make this $400 machine worthwhile and judging from reviews, they don’t last that long!

I want to really like this Opal ice maker, and I’m still holding out to like it, BUT removing the filter is next to impossible. It should not be as hard as it is to remove a simple filter. I gotta crank it with all my might, with rubber gloves on AND STILL is a major struggle. I LOVE the ice-so seriously GE, put an Engineer on this and FIX IT! Your products should be user friendly.

Love the machine but something was wrong with it from the start. Made loud noises, sounded like it was dying. Finally gave up and purchased a new one.

This is our 2 nd one, they are so nice to have nugget ice, especially for the size of the unit!

I have wanted a GE opal ice maker for a very long time. I'm very happy with how quickly it was to set up, do the initial cleaning and stated making ice.

Easy set up with clear instructions. The app was also user friendly and picked up on the device to pair it right away. Definitely only worth buying direct from the website to make sure you have all of the right warranty.

I love my Opal Nugget Ice Maker. This is actually my 2nd one. I had the first one for 4 years. I use it every day all day long because this is my FAVORITE ice. Everyone that comes to my house loves it too. Yes, it squeaks occasionally, but I just clean it according to the directions and that takes care of the issue. I highly recommend this product if you are willing to take care of it!

The ice maker makes great tasting ice. The unit is big and cleaning so often is a hassle and takes time. Several times the unit kept being loud (see YouTube complaints) and was returned/replaced while under warranty. GE said new unit is only covered until original warranty expires. Expect it will get noisy again and need to be returned.

Love, love, love my “good ice” maker! Every drink is a luxury!

The ice made by the Opal is the best on the market. We had an original Opal from FirstBuild that eventually stopped working after many years of enjoyment, and switched to a less expensive brand. While it made decent ice, it wasn’t quite as chewy as the Opals, but it did have an important feature that is somehow missing on Opal 2.0 - a direct water connection. There are work arounds with special lids, but they require an external tank to operate. Other brands you just hook up the water source like you would for a refrigerator. Refilling the tank is truly a pain, and while we are buying a third party lid for an old tank to make it work, this shouldn’t be required on such an expensive unit Otherwise, the aesthetics are nice, the lighting in the ice drawer is a great touch, and the WiFi notifications integrate with Home Assistant. But really… why no water line hookup? That’s just a terrible oversight.

It’s so quiet. Installing was easy and only took a few minutes for the initial clean. Once ready, it was satisfying to watch the ice production happen right away. The size of the pebble ice is perfect and I love the soft crunch. The capacity is big enough for my little family.

It was hard to choose a topic because the capacity dimensions installation noise, and product production are all fantastic!! I’ve had this since May 20 of 2024 and it’s still chugging along perfectly! It works beautifully with Alexa. I have mindset to turn off at 11 PM and it turns back on at 9 AM. It even dims the light for me when it turns off. It gives a nice ambience.

Love the ice and ease of use! This product is sleek and fits perfectly in my home. It’s the perfect size. The ice machine sounds like what an ice maker would so the sound doesn’t bother me. It produces a decent amount of ice for a party. Installation, instructions to clean were easy to understand.

Purchased for small office, so capacity works for us. If there were more of us, or if we all needed ice at the same time, we would have a capacity issue. Ice size is great. Thankful for the drip tray as each time we open the door, there is leaking to water tray - would prefer to not see the drip on the outside of the machine (stainless steel). Makes ice quickly - about 20 minutes. Installation was super easy. Cleaning with bleach once a week feels like it might become a hassle. We don't really notice the noise of the machine as it is in a different room from us; that said, it doesn't seem particularly noisy when we happen to be in the room while it is making ice.

We love this machine! It produces ice fairly quickly and quietly. I appreciate that it is not constantly loud as we typically leave it on all day. Even though it is small enough to fit on our counter below the upper cabinets, it stays mostly full all day. Especially with the additional side tank, it doesn't need to be refilled annoyingly often. Additionally, the cleaning instructions are easy to follow. My only complaint would be that our last one stopped working after ~11 months. However, the warranty team is great and was able to provide a replacement and now it is back up and running again.

If I had not paid so much money for this appliance, I would just probably throw it away. This is my 3rd one and none of them make it past a year. I keep it in a clean cool space, I do all the cleaning cycles on it every month, and replace the filters frequently, yet they still stop working.

So far I really like this product. I have to comment on some of the reviews I see online talking about the nooses this product makes. I notice that when it makes certain noises it needs attention such as cleaning. I am very happy with this product and will update if anything changes bit so far. . . . so good!

Worked well for 7 months, then started to make a binding sound. Like when a screw pump is binding. I would not recommend this model.
