Our first opal 2. Ice maker
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wife and I hooked it up. She was reading the instructions. Didn't take more than 15 minutes. Cleaning it out three times was the hardest thing actually and the time consuming but needed to be done.

Good Deal & makes a lot of ice fast!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my 3rd countertop ice maker. It is a bit more than what I spent on others, But, It is worth every penny! It makes ice quickly, and its pretty quite. it only takes up about 2 inches more the other countertop models I've had, but its a way better designed ice maker. Its makes LOTS of wonderfully crunchy nuggets. No more running out of Ice or running to the store to buy the continuously shrinking pounds bagged Ice. The ice "bucket" holds a nice amount & refills quick. Set up is quick and easy. Just clean it, than run a few ice making cycles and toss the first two batches and now your are ready to enjoy a cold cocktail or cooler fill-up ! This little ice makers is going to be a game changer for next years Pool Parties!!!

We love the ice, so does the dog
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is our second Opal ice maker, this version is much quiter and fiils the ice nearly twice as fast. The side tank is a godsend and the unit is very easy to clean. The only problem is that when someone fills a glass, the dog wants to munch some too.

Best Ice Machine All Around
Love this ice machine. I've owned two now as my daughter stole the original one we had when she left hime for good. Then a second one I bought to replace it. They are both still running smooth as ever. Easy maintenance, easy to use, great ice size and great buy all together. The capacity of ice in hand is perfect for a get together or just drinks with friends. Noise is minimal the loudest is barely noticeable and installation is a breeze. Best ice machine on the market! Recommend!

Garbage Ice Machine
I don’t write reviews often, but after purchasing more than 3 of these Opal ice machines and always having the same squealing issues I would give this product a zero if possible. I purchased a water distilled just for this machine thinking maybe it’s our water, but the squeaking always occurs after the 1 year warranty is up. I would highly recommend looking at a different ice machine!

We'd like to give you some information regarding your Opal sounds. It is normal to hear your unit squeaking when Opal is in need of defrosting, it can start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and can take 10 to 45 minutes. If your unit is squeaking outside of the defrosting process. We recommend calling our Opal team at 866-907-6718.

Don't use filter can't use after1st true cleaning
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would have love to know that when it tells you to do a cleaning for the first time that you can't put the filter back in because the machine doesn't recognize it. It try's to make ice and then it stops and tells you to add more water and you have a side tank and it is totally full and the inside the water has gone down due to the fact that it tried to make ice, so you add a little more water into the machine and it try to make ice and then stops and tells you to add more water and it is all due to the filter, I took it out and I have not had any problems making ice sense. I only use Filtered water, so we decide not to use the filter anymore. There is no true instructions for this machine. No clear trouble shooting help in the book and everything I found on the internet was not that much helpful either to figure this out. When ice melts it makes a lot of water in the bottom of the bin and doesn't drain out very well, all I have seen water in between the walls of the bin after its been washed and it seam like when I wipe down the front part under were the bin is it seams that the water keeps popping back up, so I'm not sure if water could be leaking down into the front of the machine from that area when it gets wet from the bin hanging down when you get the ice out because of all the melted ice that turned into water. Don't use the filter is a problem and the machine doesn't recognize it after you do the first true cleaning and put it back into the machine, so it is worthy.

We'd like to help out with the filter and go over the water you are noticing at the bottom of your Opal. It can be normal to notice water at the bottom of the bin, it is melted ice from what wasn't used. We recommend checking out page 7 in the manual below for assistance with draining your unit. https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--hPt8j2G2--/a656dd8264a1786411b2865c10956f3e46f3598f.pdf For the filter, whenever it is removed and eventually replaced it does need to be reset so that the Opal can detect it. There is a filter button that needs to be held down to reset the tracker. You can view more information on page 11 in the same manual as above.

Great ice, poor quality.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It makes great ice, but we are on our third ge profile opal. The first one lasted about 2 yrs, longer enough for the warranty to be out. The second one just over 6 months and it took a couple of months to get the warranty replacement after jumping thru hoops for several different case workers.Do this do that, try this, download this software now repeat all previous actions. Then get handed over to their supervisor to start over. Now the replacement is not working as it should and it is 3 months old, not pulling water from the side tank. Its cleaned every two weeks on schedule.

We want to help you with your Opal not getting water from the side tank. This is a sign that there are bubbles in the tube connecting the side tank to the Opal if the tube is not lying flat. Try adjusting the tube to allow the water to flow. Once water starts flowing, it will not need further adjusting. We are going to reach out via email to gather further information. Please reply at your earliest convenience.

Reliability
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have had our maker 3 months. I have cleaned and descaled per instructions and this last time when descaling it went to add water during the cleaning cycle. It is not running vinegar through the ice maker. The pump is working the water line must be plugged. Looks like the cleaning process does not go through all the water lines and letting the vinegar set in the lines for 18 hours is not enough to descale. Ice maker no longer works and needs repaired. What is your return or repair policy?

Great features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We love the ease of setup, convenience of use and size of the ice cubes. The only con I’ve found is how often the cleaning reminder comes on. We’re using soft filtered water and it seems at least once a month the cleaning reminder flashes.

Just buy the machine!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My family and I have enjoyed the ice maker. Even when our friends and family come over they want ice in their drinks! The ice maker is constantly making ice, it’s a quiet machine, installation was quick and had easy to read instructions. I recommend everyone to have in their home.

Drips water from ice bin
The ice bin dribbles A LOT of water when you open the bin. I have to put a napkin on the plastic drip pan, just so it doesn't spillover before I get it wiped up. It is a pain to have to continually wipe up water. Also, every 21 days I have to clean it. It is cumbersome to have to move it to the sink to drain and clean. It is a heavy machine. I assumed cleaning every 4 - 6 wks like my old ice maker.
1 reply from GE_Appliances team - 23 days ago
During normal operation, condensation forms on the bottom surface of the ice bin. This water will sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surfaces of the ice maker. The included drip tray can be installed in front of the Opal to collect this water. Also, it can be normal to clean and maintain your machine. This is due to the mineral build-up and constant ice production. The routine cleaning will help keep your Opal in top shape.

Loving my best Investment!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this nugget ice maker in September 2025 and it's now October 2025 and I still Love ❤️ my ice maker. I live in Texas hard water we definitely have,so I only use distilled water in my ice maker, I still follow all cleaning instructions the same, it's so quiet sometimes I forget I'm making ice and it's on all day or night. Now I leave the light on to remind me I'm making ice 🧊. You can hear the ice drop when it starts to produce because there's nothing in it yet, but once it starts to fill you don't really hear it. It holds so much ice in one sitting and if you leave it on and the bin is full it will keep your ice and fill your cup right from it. Mine is in black stainless, it's Sooo pretty!I love this nugget ice maker 😍 I give it 5 🌟 's

Nuggets are “golden”!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far so good. No noisier than the refrigerator. Nuggets are perfect. I hope this machine lasts a long time because even though I got it on sale, still very pricey. I hope it’s worth the money.
