Q: Does this come with the side tank? https://target.scene7.com/is/image/Target/GUEST_c71e5247-b032-4137-b0f6-fcf3f20b101c?wid=800&hei=800&qlt=80&fmt=pjpeg

submitted by Hello - 2 years ago
  • A: It does not come with the side tank. I called GE and confirmed from the “Opal” department the side tank isn’t available yet…and once it is available, it will only be sold at Target.

submitted byLeslie - 2 years ago
  • A: No this one doesn’t come with the side tank

submitted byAmanda - 2 years ago
  • A: Side tank is sold on eb - new open box - bullseyedeals for $39 w/free shipping

submitted byGrammy - 1 year ago
  • A: I hope so. 2 of the photos show it and the specs say it does too.

submitted byMCO fun - 2 years ago
  • A: No, it does not! I would have liked that option. This is an appliance that needs a water line as it comes in the box! At a retail of $499.99- I’d have paid $50-$75 more to get it with the “matching” tank. The stainless version on the GE website, comes with the tank at $579.00, granted I got this one on sale in the target store for $399.99, but it’s still nice. Target does not sell the tank online as of yet and GE doesn’t sell it in white on their website, since it’s a “target exclusive.” I’m assuming Target will sell it soon, but as this is a limited collaboration with Magnolia, it will probably be very limited stock, if they get it. I ordered this- the magnetic tank with the same model number but in stainless. It’s not ideal, but temporary until I get a water splicer for my fridge line. That will cost me another $75.00 in parts and $150.00 in labor too, but that’s a handyman job. • A: No it does not come with side tank which doesn’t make sense. Just include it and charge more instead of making someone have to search and then purchase. Tank is extra $69.99. This was a gift from my daughter and family. They were embarrassed that tank was not included.

    submitted byMeme0f9 - 2 years ago
  • A: Why is the side bin not included for this price ridiculous it should all be coming together unless you can hook it directly up to a waterline?

Q: Is this self cleaning?

submitted by Cindi - 2 years ago
  • A: Yes, with a switch to initiate it

submitted byCasperlpn - 1 year ago
  • A: No but it’s a super easy cleaning process !! You flip a switch on the back, run the cleaning solution through it and then flush it out !

    submitted byHeadman19 - 2 years ago
  • A: Yes I fits under the upper cabinets

submitted byCyn - 2 years ago
  • A: No. I have one you have to take to a sink drain the lines and run vinegar thru it to clean. I do it once a week or the ice starts to taste bad even though I use filtered water

    submitted bydmc327 - 2 years ago
  • A: You clean it by flipping a switch on the back and holding down the front button for 3 seconds, then the machine does the rest.

Q: Please confirm the size on this item?

submitted byTessa - 8 months ago
  • A: The intake line into the pump goes upward from the reservoir, where the pump should be slightly lower. I believe this causes the pump to suck air and the machine thinks it needs water when it doesn’t. Not sure how the design engineer missed that detail. I found two fixes both YouTube: First one, prime the pump with the following steps. 1. Open ice tray 2. Close ice tray (signals pump to start pumping) 3. Remove cover over intake hole 4. Using your thumb, cover the intake hole for 1-2 seconds 5. Let go 1-2 seconds 6. Repeat 8-10 times, you should notice a lot more water flowing into the reservoir Second one, remove air bubbles from pump…. I do this one when the first one doesn’t work. 1. Remove all the screws on the back cover. 2. Carefully open the back from the bottom, not the top. The top is installed under the “lid” of the machine and isn’t as easy to get off. 3. Open and close the ice tray to start the pump. 4. Locate the pump, mine is on the left side with two water lines hooked up to it and in a silicone sleeve. 5. Carefully reach your hand under the back cover from the bottom and flick or wiggle the pump with your finger. I’m planning on remounting the pump with a 3D printed piece to minimize the uphill intake angle. Hope that helps!

Q: Previously asked by at least two people… What components of this unit are comprised of cancer causing agents? Does the water/ice come into contact with any of the cancer causing elements or are they limited within the frame body?

submitted by asramsey - 11 months ago
  • A: They clearly will not tell us. There is a cancer warning, yet they are not transparent about what chemicals are of concern or if they even come into contact with the water/ice.

submitted byBeachgirl - 5 months ago
  • A: The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe or poses a health risk. Over 800 chemicals are on this list, including wood dust, nickel (found in stainless steel), nicotine, and alcohol. Additionally, even inaccessible parts can cause the warning. We do not provide detailed information about what causes the Prop 65 warning to apply. To read more about Prop 65, click on the Warnings & Disclosures section on the Target product page.

    Won't last 6 months

The ice from this is SO GOOD, but at this price point, an appliance should last longer than 6 months. This gave out after 4 months and going through the warranty on GE is a nightmare; they’re completely unhelpful. Save your money!

    Ice Machine

So far so good, it was very pricey but have always had good luck with GE products and I was able to register the product also with the additional 2 year warranty that Target offered at check out, the reason for 4 stars and not 5, it is now $100 off which I’m really upset about because Target will not do a price adjustment because it was purchased 3 weeks ago, they only do price adjustments until 2 weeks! That stinks seriously especially because I spend a ton at Target and it’s an exclusive color and cannot buy it elsewhere. Really thought about boxing it back up and returning it and repurchasing it with the discount but sadly for the first time ever, we disposed of the shipping materials because of it being so boxy and took up a ton of space, I already checked with customer service and to receive a full refund it has to be packed in original shipping box so it’s a loss for me. $100 is $100 and would have went through the trouble just to save some money. Get better Target, need better customer service for this one!

We recommend only using distilled water in your Opal to help reduce the potential for mineral buildup. It is recommended that you follow the instructions in the owner’s manual for your unit regarding the schedule of running descaling and sanitizing cycles. Using vinegar in the descaling cycle can help break up the minerals as well. It’s important to note that distilled water is different from bottled water, reverse osmosis water, filtered water, or spring water. All of these other options contain varying levels of minerals that can build up in the unit and impede optimal operation. Using distilled water reduces the frequency of descaling and cleaning. Using our scale-inhibiting filter, part P4INKSFLTR, is designed to increase the time between cleanings and reduces the solidification of scale. It is recommended that there be at least 4” of clearance in the back, on both sides, and above the Opal to allow proper air flow so that the fan can move air about the unit. If you have any questions about your Opal, please reach out.

Replaces my daily Chic Fil A ice trips

We have had this ice maker for a few days now and so far we love it. I was having to go to CFA daily to buy a bag of ice so having my own nugget ice at home is so convenient. The nuggets are smaller than CFA nuggets but easier on my teeth. The noise is not loud at all. Similar to the noise my Keurig makes. I wish the ice compartment was not plastic so the ice would hold longer. Another small annoyance is that you have to take the ice bucket out to add water. I wish you could just add water from the top or side without having to remove the ice bucket.

    Broke within 3 days

Broke within days. It makes really nice ice and looks nice on the counter. Within days of purchasing it started making a very loud noise. I unplugged it and tried again but after a made a small pile of ice it started the clean cycle on its own and water poured on the ice. JUNK On another note, the single button design is poor and the light never turns off.

    BUY THIS.

It can be noisy and make a loud groan sound infrequently. I love every single thing about this machine. I added the 1 gallon attachment that keeps it filled longer. The ice is the perfect size and nugget texture for chewing and adding to drinks. It stays cold all day and the automatic sensor accurately predicts when we need more ice. I’ve had mine for a year and a half and paid nearly 500 dollars with the gallon attachment. BUY THIS.

I wanted to love this ice machine!

I wanted to love it! It’s aesthetically pleasing and made great ice when it worked. We went through two of these machines in the past six months. The first one leaked all over our counter for two weeks before we gave up and exchanged it. The second one did much better at first, but then started with the dreaded groaning noise that many here have shown through videos. No amount of cleaning and vinegar rinses made that go away. The first couple months we could unplug it overnight and it would be fine the next day, but by month 5 it groaned constantly and no longer worked. I was able to return the machine thankfully but am now stuck with the side tank since it’s outside the return window. We are trying a different brand for half the price from the big box store that starts with a C.

    Not Worth the $$$$

Lovely IF and WHEN it works. Bought last May (2025) when I was 8 months pregnant and in the throws of Pica. It was great until it stopped working about 2 months later. It sat unused since then until today when I finally had time to deep clean. Customer service recommended using nearly boiling white vinegar but that does nothing unless you have a small straw cleaner and can scrub inside the tubes from the inner of the machine. So much gunk and no way to know if the rest of the tubes inside the machine are clean as well. It was also having an issue where it would make half a bin of ice and then that ice would melt. Just a mess overall and I WOULD NOT recommend this or buy it again. Easier to go to your local Sonic and buy a huge bag of ice for less than $5.

We would like to review your situation further and have sent you an email requesting additional information to do so. Please respond at your earliest convenience. That said, be aware, due to the differing mineral content in municipal water across the country, we recommend using distilled water for best results. Even with distilled, it is imperative your Opal be cleaned as described in the Owner's Manual starting on page 7 - https://images.salsify.com/image/upload/s--_ABG-iy1--/462d7f715f50ffebce59316881b879879d5421a1.pdf.
