A: We recommend you descale and sanitize your Opal every 4 weeks or more often depending on the mineral content (hardness level) of your water. We offer step-by-step directions in the online Owner's Manual. The manual can be found by searching for the specific model number of your Opal on our GE Appliances site. Also, you can extend the time between descaling by using distilled water. -Vikki@GEAppliances

A: The water filter (P4INKFILTER) is not included with this model Opal. It is available as an optional accessory. -Vikki@GEAppliances

A: You cannot attach a water line to the Opal. When more water is needed, it needs to be manually added to the internal reservoir and/or the side tank.

A: Water dripping under the ice bin is normal to see. During normal operation, condensation forms on the bottom surface of the ice bin. This water will sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surfaces of the ice maker. The included drip tray can be installed in front of the Opal to collect this water.

A: The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe or poses a health risk. Over 800 chemicals are on this list, including wood dust, nickel (found in stainless steel), nicotine, and alcohol. Additionally, even inaccessible parts can cause the warning. We do not provide detailed information about what causes the Prop 65 warning to apply. To read more about Prop 65, click on the Warnings & Disclosures section on the Target product page.

A: The side tank holds 3 quarts of water, or 3/4th of a gallon. Add in the bottom part, and you need one full gallon of water. Use Distilled water for cleaning, but I use spring water for making ice.
