Q: Is this recommended for first time moms? **I’ve read a lot of good reviews but everyone that has used it has had kids before and used an electronic pump.

A: Hi Jen, the Haakaa benefits anyone who breastfeeds; whether it be your first, second, or eighth child! Some moms only express using their Haakaa while others use both the Haakaa and an electric pump to express and store milk. It is entirely up to you. Hope this helps!

Using a haaka is a good passive way to build up a freezer stash of milk while feeding your baby, less time pumping after baby is done!

Q: Do I have to be nursing at the same time while pumping for this to work? Or can I pump without having my baby attatched

A: Hi Pat, thanks for your interest in the Haakaa breast pump. Yes, you can use the Haakaa pump without baby nursing on the other side. First, you will need to stimulate letdown (similar to all breast pumps). You can use the Haakaa to initiate the letdown by squeezing the pump a few times without attaching the pump. Once you get letdown, attach the pump and express.

Q: How do I clean my pump after each use a bottle brush with soap and water or sterilize it in boiling water for 3 mins.

It didn’t work for me. It’s not a replacement for a pump. I left my electric pump at work by accident and got this to hopefully help me get through the night but it’s truly not a “pump.” Was uncomfortably engorged all night. Tried the extra suction method too. Got a few ounces throughout the night but wish I had gotten another device.

Omg, before i got the haakaa i was using a electric pump and only producing barely 3-5 mL. I thought something was majorly wrong with my milk supply, but i just got home and used the haakaa and i'm instantly producing 3 ounces. It's insane. I'm also a stay at home mom and my partner works all day AND i babysit three other kids so having a cheap, quiet pump (that also doesn't hurt) is so nice. I told my partner I might leave him for my haakaa 😭 It's also super easy to clean and dries so fast. I'm so in love lol

This haakaa is absolutely amazing! I knew my milk supply was fine during nursing, but I was about to transition my baby to formula at 7 months because I absolutely could not get an electric pump to express my milk anymore. I got the haakaa hoping it would help and it has been the best thing. I just use it on one side when my son nurses and I gather milk easily with very little effort. No need to be near an outlet, no hunching over, no restriction of movement, and no spending hours trying to pump. I especially love that when my son is done, I can stand up and take him to his play area and the haakaa stays secure on my breast until I remove it. I've had this less than 48 hours, have only used it a few times, and already have 3 bottles in the fridge!

While on vacation my portable pump broke and I didn’t know what to do. I found this and thought I would give it a try. I originally thought I would literally be hand pumping but you don’t. Attach it while you are nursing and it collects everything that I’m assuming would just go into a breast pad. The suction is literally better than my actual pump! I would recommend if you need something for traveling or when pump isn’t available. It’s much faster than I imagined and I collected the same oz as normal.

I’m a 32DDD (I have breast implants) I find this to work ok for let-down. It’s not amazing it just collects milk whenever my boobs randomly leak. Not sure it’s worth the price as it doesn’t actually increase my output. Idk why this has so many good reviews but maybe it’s better for people with smaller breasts, I feel like the suctions isn’t secure at all. I

This pump is so cool. I use it while breastfeeding the baby and have it on the other breast. I got about an ox out the first time using it with zero effort. It's just a little difficult using with positioning because I have larger breasts and I use a boppy while feeding her and it sometimes gets in the way. I overall love this product and would recommend.

I love it! This helps me so much during the morning feeds. I didn’t realize that I was loosing 4-5 ounces from the side my baby wasn’t feeding on each day. I’m going to get another without the stopper because I immediately pour it into a milk storage bag so I didn’t see to the need to pay extra again for the stopper.

I love this thing! It’s so useful. I was able to catch lots of valuable milk with it. My only grievance is the stupid flower stopper. It doesn’t seem like the best idea, unless you place it down perfectly it constantly is rolling into the floor which is annoying. That’s all.

Writing this review as I currently use my Hakaa! This is a breastfeeding must have for sure. It is so easy to use, clean, and I love that I can put it on when feeding my baby and kind of just forget that it’s there. Sure, there are times when my baby kicks it off but I just make sure to hold on to it for a bit while I distract my baby from kicking. I use this more often than my electric breast pump because stressing about not having the time to pump in between feedings was really messing with my mental health. Get it!

This was the first breast pump I used. It's so easy to use and allowed me to collect a lot of milk while baby was nursing and even when he wasn't. I used this more often in the early days because it's easier to clean than all the pump parts. I now use every now and then and keep it on my night stand for middle of the night relief.

If you're looking for a true manual pump, then keep looking--I wouldn't call this a manual "pump" as much as a milk collection system. However, I still highly recommend it--it does its job well! I would recommend this in particular for moms with forceful letdowns or those who leak on the other side when you have a letdown--your milk will be leaving your body anyways, so you may as well catch and save it lol. Starting when my milk came in, I'd feed baby on one side and attach this on the other side to catch the let down--doing this just occasionally in just the first few weeks, I was able to collect over 50oz to add to my freezer stash (which would have been wasted into nursing pads or a burp cloth otherwise). I never got great at truly "pumping" with it, but when I tried, I could easily get 2oz, enough to ease engorgement or boost my supply.
