Description

Tea? Hot chocolate? Instant soup? If you have a taste for it, the Hamilton Beach 1.7 Liter Glass Cordless Kettle can have it ready in minutes. With 1500 watts, this electric kettle can boil water faster than a microwave, and is safer to use than a stovetop kettle because it automatically turns off when the water reaches a boil. The soft blue illumination along with a brushed, stainless steel base make the kettle compact, space saving and attractive when placed on the kitchen counter. Serving at the table is no problem as the kettle lifts right off the 360-degree rotating base without the cord. The powerful rapid-boil system provides fast heating from any standard outlet and the auto shut-off function helps keep the kettle from boiling dry. The clear glass kettle features a stay-cool handle, push-button lid and easy-pour spout that make filling and serving easy. A cord wrap is under the base for space-saving storage when not in use.

Q: I'm reading complaints about rust spots. Is that because there's steel on the inside of the kettle? If it's cosmetic and on the outside, I don't mind, but I don't want to drink rust water.

submitted by Lauren D - 7 years ago
  • A: I rinse out my pot after each use and wash it intermittently and I have no residue. I think people get lazy and leave leftover water in the pot promoting interior and exterior spotting.

submitted byKLA - 7 years ago
  • A: I've had mine for over a year and have no rust spots. If I will not be using it for the rest of the day I just pour the water out and dry it with a paper towel and set it back on the base. it's the best product for heating your water to a boiling point under 2 minutes that I have ever used... And we absolutely love ours!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago
  • A: When we're done with ours and we're not going to be using it for the rest of the day, we pour out the excess water and take a paper towel and dry the inside and set it back on the base. I've had mine for over a year and have never had a rust spot.

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. The "rust spots" you are seeing are likely mineral deposits leftover from the water. This can be removed by doing a cycle with cream of tartar, as outlined in your use and care guide. Should you have any further questions or be in need of assistance, please email us at customer.service@hamiltonbeach.com, or give us a call at 800.851.8900.

  • A: those are mineral deposits on the metal, not rust. at night pour 1/2 cup of your cheapest white vinegar into the bottom. rinse in the morning and everything will look brand new, guaranteed.

submitted bySheila - 2 years ago

Q: How long would you say it takes to boil a cup of water? I'm thinking of buying this for my mother and it would b primarily because of the speed in witch it takes to boil water on a traditional kettle.

submitted by Cameron - 7 years ago
  • A: Two minutes or less? It’s very fast.

submitted byMatanuskaMolisana - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. The boil time will depend on the kettle (size 1L vs. 1.7L and heater rating), starting water temperature, water amount, and altitude.

submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 5 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: If you fill the water level to the minimum level- it takes 2 minutes to heat to the appropriate temp.

submitted byLauren - 7 years ago
  • A: At the minimal level it's under 2 minutes and at the maximum level it's exactly 2 minutes. I love mine... I put the water in flip the switch... go grab my purse and car keys... By the time I put on my jacket, get back to the kitchen it's already done I pour, add my tea bag or instant coffee, and walk out the door! Best product ever...I love mine!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago
  • A: I ended up giving my kettle to a friend. This boils your water under two minutes...and is way,way faster than the kettle! She will love it!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago

Q: Sorry I am probably missing something obvious: Why is there a cord wrap in the base if this is a cordless unit? Do you mean that the cord is retractable? If truly cordless, is it battery operated?

submitted by Eli - 7 years ago
  • A: The cord goes to the base, which detaches from the kettle.

    submitted bySvb207 - 7 years ago
  • A: It has a separate round bottom base that the actual glass kettle sits on that you take it off to pour and then set it back on the base it's very easy to lift off and on...sits securly, put on and lifts off with ease and is very attractive sitting on the counter.

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. This Hamilton Beach Kettle will feature a cord on the power base. The power base will feature a cord wrap storage.

submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 5 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: The kettle is cordless, the base it sits on when heating up has a cord. The are 2 separate pieces.

submitted byJoey - 7 years ago

Q: After use, I would like to leave the kettle lid open, to help it air dry. Does the lid have a hinge, allowing it to stay open?

submitted by Txshoegirl - 4 years ago
  • A: Yes the lid will stay open. After lifting the lid pull it back until the lid clicks into place. It then stays open until closed.

    submitted byBF47 - 1 year ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Yes, this appliance will feature a hinge that allows the lid to remain open.

submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 4 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: The "HamiltonBeachTeam" "expert" is incorrect. Yes, there is a hinge to open the lid, however the lid does not remain open, you must hold it open with your other hand or against the faucet to fill the kettle. If you do not click the lid closed, it *will* be open about an inch, however you cannot open it completely because the hinge doesn't allow full opening without breaking the lid hinge. Disappointed in this and am returning my kettle to Target.

submitted byMINIgirl - 4 years ago

Q: How long is the cord on the base?

submitted by mikeyrob - 4 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. The cord should come out and be 2 feet (24 inches) in length.

submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 4 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: When completely unwound, the cord is 25 inches from the base to the plug (not including the plug, just the wire part). The cord stores inside the base so you can make it any length you want from 0 inches to 25.

    submitted byF1Addict - 4 years ago

Q: Why is there white residue at the bottom of my kettle and it has a white film floating on top of the water . Please respond. Thank you A

submitted by A - 5 years ago
  • A: That is mineral from the water. Use white vinegar or cream of tartar to clean the minerals out.

submitted byCJ - 5 years ago

Q: Do you know the temperature that the water reaches when it is ready? I've been using it to brew coffee but don't think it gets hot enough.

submitted by grandall - 7 years ago
  • A: It is boiling hot... To the point when I put it in my 'To Go"coffee MuG... I add my instant coffee powdered creamer and sugar ((just an FYI, after you stir it do not put the spoon into your mouth it will scald your tongue)) I Stir It,twist lid on to my cup,and by the time I get to our church ((15 minutes away)) I still can't drink it because it's too hot! It is the Best! Within 2 minutes, you have boiling hot water! I love mine, we use it everyday!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago
  • A: Grandall... Within two minutes the water is,''BOILING SCALDING HOT" you should call customer service, it sounds like yours isn't working.

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago

Q: Does it get very hot to touch?

submitted by Sader - 7 years ago
  • A: Yes...some areas are hot to the touch...but the handle where you grip to pour has a sturdy nice formed base and does not get hot at all, also the bottom fitting ou the pot is also 'not" hot to the touch... Obviously, the glass portion that contains boiling water is.

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Yes, the exterior or the kettle is hot to the touch. There are "HOT SURFACE" signs in the use and care guide and on the kettle itself for this reason.

Q: Can the light be disabled to avoid annoying roommate?

submitted by Revary - 7 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the light cannot be adjusted or turned off.

submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 7 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: The light is only on while it is heating, less than 2 min for a large mug of water. And it is a serene blue, so less likely to wake your roommate than a white light.

The top does not seal properly. Water comes out from the side of the spout. When pouring hot boiling water that's the last thing you want to happen.

I love it. I’ve had it for many years, I just had to buy a new one because I dropped it and it shattered. My fault! The auto shut off is great and it’s easy to clean. From time to time I’ll put vinegar in the pot to give it a nice clean. I’m satisfied I don’t regret this purchase

I've been using this for years so it's not terrible but 2 things that bother me: to open the lid you have to squeeze two buttons on the top and it doesn't stay open consistently. Also that lid gets very hot if it has boiled recently. And it's just a clunky setup that's hard to clean, I would rather have a single push button to open the lid. The other annoying issue is that the edge of the metal that meets the lid started rusting a while ago. It looks cheap and off putting.

Outside of the pot gets super hot, and the design for the lid opener is terrible. You will get a steam burn trying to open it up. Push button is very flimsy.

Worked very well for just under two years, when the heating element I the bottom part began smoking. Continued using it (unplugging when not in use) while looking for a replacement and eventually it stopped working altogether. Luckily, we purchased the two-year protection plan and were partially reimbursed.

Rusted at the bottom after 2 weeks of using. This isn't safe to cook drinking water in it. This should be taken off market or need to be reported to CPSC.

The overall construction of the kettle could be good but is absolutely invalidated by the terrible lid design. The lid does not stay elevated to allow for easy filling. The only way to reliably add water is to keep the kettle on the stand, hold the lid open with one hand and pour water from a pitcher in with the other hand. Even still, the plastic and hinge of the lid feel weak and the attached screen filter is almost certain to snap off. I plan to return this and try another kettle.

I bought this kettle on Black Friday and am very impressed. It is 1.7 Liters and heats so much faster than my electric stove. This is a cheaper and faster way to heat water and over time will pay for itself in reduced electric bills. The blue light shining through the boiling water is cool too! The electric kettle is great. It heats water fast and quietly; however, the reason I did not give it 5 starts is because of how you have to pinch the two buttons on the top to open the lid. Other electric kettles that I’ve had in the past have a button on the handle to automatically “pop the top” open.
