Description

Tea? Hot chocolate? Instant soup? If you have a taste for it, the Hamilton Beach 1.7 Liter Glass Cordless Kettle can have it ready in minutes. With 1500 watts, this electric kettle can boil water faster than a microwave, and is safer to use than a stovetop kettle because it automatically turns off when the water reaches a boil. The soft blue illumination along with a brushed, stainless steel base make the kettle compact, space saving and attractive when placed on the kitchen counter. Serving at the table is no problem as the kettle lifts right off the 360-degree rotating base without the cord. The powerful rapid-boil system provides fast heating from any standard outlet and the auto shut-off function helps keep the kettle from boiling dry. The clear glass kettle features a stay-cool handle, push-button lid and easy-pour spout that make filling and serving easy. A cord wrap is under the base for space-saving storage when not in use.

Q: I'm reading complaints about rust spots. Is that because there's steel on the inside of the kettle? If it's cosmetic and on the outside, I don't mind, but I don't want to drink rust water.

submitted by Lauren D - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. The "rust spots" you are seeing are likely mineral deposits leftover from the water. This can be removed by doing a cycle with cream of tartar, as outlined in your use and care guide. Should you have any further questions or be in need of assistance, please email us at customer.service@hamiltonbeach.com, or give us a call at 800.851.8900.

  • A: I've had mine for over a year and have no rust spots. If I will not be using it for the rest of the day I just pour the water out and dry it with a paper towel and set it back on the base. it's the best product for heating your water to a boiling point under 2 minutes that I have ever used... And we absolutely love ours!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 5 years ago
  • A: I rinse out my pot after each use and wash it intermittently and I have no residue. I think people get lazy and leave leftover water in the pot promoting interior and exterior spotting.

submitted byKLA - 5 years ago
  • A: When we're done with ours and we're not going to be using it for the rest of the day, we pour out the excess water and take a paper towel and dry the inside and set it back on the base. I've had mine for over a year and have never had a rust spot.

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 5 years ago
  • A: those are mineral deposits on the metal, not rust. at night pour 1/2 cup of your cheapest white vinegar into the bottom. rinse in the morning and everything will look brand new, guaranteed.

submitted bySheila - 1 month ago

Q: How long would you say it takes to boil a cup of water? I'm thinking of buying this for my mother and it would b primarily because of the speed in witch it takes to boil water on a traditional kettle.

submitted by Cameron - 5 years ago
  • A: I ended up giving my kettle to a friend. This boils your water under two minutes...and is way,way faster than the kettle! She will love it!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 5 years ago
  • A: Two minutes or less? It’s very fast.

submitted byMatanuskaMolisana - 5 years ago
  • A: At the minimal level it's under 2 minutes and at the maximum level it's exactly 2 minutes. I love mine... I put the water in flip the switch... go grab my purse and car keys... By the time I put on my jacket, get back to the kitchen it's already done I pour, add my tea bag or instant coffee, and walk out the door! Best product ever...I love mine!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 5 years ago
  • A: If you fill the water level to the minimum level- it takes 2 minutes to heat to the appropriate temp.

submitted byLauren - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. The boil time will depend on the kettle (size 1L vs. 1.7L and heater rating), starting water temperature, water amount, and altitude.

Q: Sorry I am probably missing something obvious: Why is there a cord wrap in the base if this is a cordless unit? Do you mean that the cord is retractable? If truly cordless, is it battery operated?

submitted by Eli - 5 years ago
  • A: The cord goes to the base, which detaches from the kettle.

    submitted bySvb207 - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. This Hamilton Beach Kettle will feature a cord on the power base. The power base will feature a cord wrap storage.

  • A: The kettle is cordless, the base it sits on when heating up has a cord. The are 2 separate pieces.

submitted byJoey - 5 years ago
  • A: It has a separate round bottom base that the actual glass kettle sits on that you take it off to pour and then set it back on the base it's very easy to lift off and on...sits securly, put on and lifts off with ease and is very attractive sitting on the counter.

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 5 years ago

Q: How long is the cord on the base?

submitted by mikeyrob - 3 years ago
  • A: When completely unwound, the cord is 25 inches from the base to the plug (not including the plug, just the wire part). The cord stores inside the base so you can make it any length you want from 0 inches to 25.

    submitted byF1Addict - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. The cord should come out and be 2 feet (24 inches) in length.

Q: Why is there white residue at the bottom of my kettle and it has a white film floating on top of the water . Please respond. Thank you A

submitted by A - 3 years ago
  • A: That is mineral from the water. Use white vinegar or cream of tartar to clean the minerals out.

Q: Do you know the temperature that the water reaches when it is ready? I've been using it to brew coffee but don't think it gets hot enough.

submitted by grandall - 5 years ago
  • A: It is boiling hot... To the point when I put it in my 'To Go"coffee MuG... I add my instant coffee powdered creamer and sugar ((just an FYI, after you stir it do not put the spoon into your mouth it will scald your tongue)) I Stir It,twist lid on to my cup,and by the time I get to our church ((15 minutes away)) I still can't drink it because it's too hot! It is the Best! Within 2 minutes, you have boiling hot water! I love mine, we use it everyday!

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 5 years ago
  • A: Grandall... Within two minutes the water is,''BOILING SCALDING HOT" you should call customer service, it sounds like yours isn't working.

    submitted byDianelaine929 - 5 years ago

Q: Does it get very hot to touch?

submitted by Sader - 5 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Yes, the exterior or the kettle is hot to the touch. There are "HOT SURFACE" signs in the use and care guide and on the kettle itself for this reason.

submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 5 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: Yes...some areas are hot to the touch...but the handle where you grip to pour has a sturdy nice formed base and does not get hot at all, also the bottom fitting ou the pot is also 'not" hot to the touch... Obviously, the glass portion that contains boiling water is.

Q: Can the light be disabled to avoid annoying roommate?

submitted by Revary - 6 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the light cannot be adjusted or turned off.

submitted byHamiltonBeachTeam - 6 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: The light is only on while it is heating, less than 2 min for a large mug of water. And it is a serene blue, so less likely to wake your roommate than a white light.

submitted byDebi - 5 years ago

Q: how do I clean this kettle if you cant emerse in water?

submitted by Mrswright - 6 years ago
  • A: pour in 50/50 mix of vinegar and water, bring kettle to a boil, then let it cool off, then rinse out several times. On the outside, just wipe it clean with damp paper towel. No need to immerse (not emerse) :)

submitted bybigkolibri - 6 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. Care and cleaning instructions will be noted in the included use and care manual. Use and Care manuals can also be found on our website (www.hamiltonbeach.com) under the support tab.

I bought this for the office. It does not auto-shutoff. Half the water boiled away. When I went to pick it up, I burned my hand on the handle. I have the box, but no receipt. I will attempt to return it.

I Love This Kettle!

I’m so excited about this kettle! I love making hot tea and have previously boiled water in a pan on the stove. Since I’ve bought this kettle we use it several times a day! My husband uses it to brew a pitcher or his iced tea. I use it for my hot tea and also for fixing instant oatmeal. It’s so quick and easy to use. It also has a mechanism where it shuts itself off once it comes to a full boil. I am surprised by the negative reviews on this item, but to be fair I have only had this about 3 months since purchase. If issues arise I will do my best to update!

It does ok! I’ve had it for a few years and it does the job until recently. It used to stop after it reached the boiling temperature, but recently it’s not and I have to manual turn it off. I also wish I could select a temperature that I want.

This was my preferred kettle model for many years. I like glass designs and this one was a good value. After several years of heavy use it would inevitably leak or the heating element would fail and I’d just get a new one. Unfortunately they’ve now made the top part cheaper. The plastic lid feels flimsier and the water doesn’t pour out in a nice stream. The lid doesn’t stay up on its own which makes filling it a pain. I thought maybe I got a defective one but the replacement is just as bad. I wish they’d just raised the price rather than make an inferior version.

Imagine you are cooking and you 2X 1.7L of water. My issues: 1. The lid pops open if I am poring the water too fast. That's HOT HOT water coming out. 2. If you need to fill it again the top lid you have to maually open. It is NOT and the steam will hit your hand. It did for me and I have a slight steam burn. Do not BUY this. Invest in a good one.

1. Love this kettle. This is a replacement. The one I had was accidentally broken. Glass does be careful when using and storing on a granite top. Keep out of the corner and away from the wall.

After using it for a week, I will be returning it because: 1) when I poor boiling water out of it, the hot steam hits my hand even when the water is well below the max full line 2) the lid does not stay open - you have to hold it open while filling it 3) there is no continuous boiling option - when you’re racing around with kids in the morning, sometimes you need it to keep boiling for a little while Not sure why there are so many good review given these issues…it’s an okay kettle for the price.

I love electric tea kettles but the steel/metal ones are hard to clean. They also start rusting on the inside. This glass one is super easy for me to clean. I hand wash it. The glass seems super thin so I handle it delicately. It heats up just fine. The light is the icing on the cake. This is an elegant kitchen must have.

Can't live without it

I LOVE tea. I LOVE coffee. I don't know how I lived without an electric kettle for so long. At any given time, I have over 100 tea and 10 coffee varieties in my cabinet. As much as I loved the nostalgia of listening to a kettle whistle on the stove, watching water boil (almost instantly) with a ring of blue lights is way more fun, especially when the kitchen is dark. Make sure the lid is pressed all the way down, especially if using the minimum amount of water, so that it turns off automaticly. Otherwise, it will boil for quite a while. That could be dangerous if you're in another room and forgot the kettle was on. If you don't have a French press for your coffee, I suggest you get one when you buy this. And a coffee grinder. You can thank me later when you're enjoying the full, rich flaver of the bean's oil that gets soaked up and discarded with filters and pods.

I use this pot daily (3 - 5 times daily) for over four years and it has been perfection. Not one single problem in all this time! Heats to boiling very quickly. Sooo easy to clean and keep sparkling. I love that it is all glass and I know immediately when it starts to get mineral deposits on the bottom. It just takes a minute to whisk them away with an SOS pad and it's back to sparkling clean. It has never let me down. When it goes I'll buy another. Love it!
