Q: Can this be for basal body temperature

submitted by Janci dehart - 10 months ago
  • A: The Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer is designed to measure body, food, liquid, and room temperatures without direct contact. It provides readings in approximately two seconds and can store up to 50 results. While it is capable of measuring body temperature, non-contact infrared thermometers may not offer the precision required for tracking basal body temperature (BBT), which is typically measured with high accuracy to detect slight temperature changes. BBT is best monitored using a basal thermometer that measures temperature to two decimal places and is used immediately upon waking, before any activity.

Q: can I use this on my pet?

submitted by mebellamel - 11 months ago
  • A: The Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer is designed primarily for use on humans, food, liquids, and room temperature. While it might provide a general surface temperature reading for your pet, it is not specifically calibrated for animals and may not give an accurate reflection of their internal body temperature.

Q: How far away do I take the temp?

submitted by BurgieHome - 1 year ago
  • A: For the Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer, the recommended distance for taking a temperature reading is typically 0.5 to 2 inches (1 to 5 cm) from the target surface. Be sure to aim directly at the measurement area (such as the forehead for body temperature) for the most accurate results.

Q: How do I turn it on?

submitted by Lynn - 1 year ago

submitted by LAK - 2 years ago
  • A: From what you have described, it sounds like the low battery indicator is active. If changing the batteries did not solve your problem, then the product should be exchanged.

submitted by Moose - 3 years ago

Worst thermometer ever

This is the worst thermometer you would ever buy. It gives vastly different temperatures every second. It makes no sense as to why it’s like that. It’s very inconsistent and makes parents very stressed and anxious. DO NOT BUY!! Sabe yourself those $45 and buy something else. I honestly found those old non-digital thermometers as the best working ones. The manufacturer and merchants should stop scamming customers and discontinue this item.

(no review title)

I bought this when my daughter was extremely sick. She was born with 2 holes in her heart and she had open heart surgery at months old. So she is sick often with colds and things like that. She seems to pick up each and every kind of illness the kids at school pass along lol. This thermometer is the absolute best. I can take her temperature at any time without waking her up. It's always accurate and a must have in the house when you had kids.

Stopped working in 3 months

We bought this 3 months ago and it already will not read any body temp. It will read surface temps, but once placed in body temp mode it will not read. A lot of money spent on something that doesn't work.

We’re sorry to hear about the issue with your Homedics No Contact Infrared Digital Thermometer. It’s frustrating when a product stops working as expected, especially after such a short time. If the thermometer is not reading body temperature but works in other modes, try the following troubleshooting steps: Check the Battery: Ensure the batteries are fully charged or replace them with new ones. Low battery power can affect functionality. Clean the Sensor: Gently wipe the sensor lens with a soft, dry cloth to remove any dirt or debris that may be affecting readings.

Inaccurate

My baby was hot to the touch but this read 97.6. I did an ear thermometer for him and it read 101. I’m throwing it away, it’s useless. I’ve tried many many many times

Unsafe

Reads your temp way lower than it actually is. This is blatantly unsafe especially when you have infants and toddlers.

Inconsistent and inaccurate

As others have said, it’s very inconsistent. I got reads up to 108 on my 5 yr old then moments later 104, then 99. She’s undoubtedly febrile, but the variance is just ridiculous.

Not accurate

Not accurate. Took multiple readings within minutes, and they were all off by 1.5 degrees each direction. When dealing with a baby/toddler with high temperature, accuracy is the difference between monitoring at home, and an ER trip.

Not worth it

Baby had a fever but temperature taken in middle of forehead said it was normal. Temperature behind ear was very high. Had to borrow a neighbors thermometer to get an accurate reading which was somewhere in the middle of both readings.

Wildly inaccurate, cheap.

Readings change wildly even when nothing else does. It’s impossible to know if children are safe if they’re 102 at one reading and 104.9 at a reading taken seconds later. Is there any quality control? How does this cost so much and still perform so poorly? I paid for the most expensive thermometer in the store thinking I would get good quality, but I was so wrong.

Running a degree+ low.

My husband and I are 97.5o and 97.4o. Just rec'd. It has instructions of + and minus on the battery but that doesn't mean anything when it's going in a tube. Which way is up? And it says to hold 1-5cm from forehead. What's a cm? Had to get magnifying glass out to read instructions. There is a 'Set' button but no instructions. Another thermometer to throw in the shoebox. Whoa--- we're up to 98o and 98.3o!!
