Q: Why is there a prop 65? What part is the dangerous part on this product.

  • A: All power cords have insulation that contains chemicals on the Prop 65 list, so you might want to wash your hands after handling the cord and plug before continuing your cooking. If you chew on a power cord, consuming chemicals will be less of a problem than the electricity inside the cord. I don't know why the manufacturer said "the power cord could come in contact with something hazardous" because Prop 65 is about chemicals, not overall product safety. Still, it's good not to damage the cord with anything hot or sharp, or with solvents.

  • A: Hi Betz, Proposition 65 was enacted in 1986 in the State of California. It requires an updated list once a year of potentially harmful materials. Whirlpool/KitchenAid meets or exceeds all standards for safe materials, but our products do have cords, which causes them to make the list. Any time you have a cord, there is the potential for it to come in contact with something hazardous.

    Overheated

    Paint started chipping on machine quickly I didn’t care too much but now it just overheated while mixing some bread dough . Specifically bought for this but doesn’t seem to be able to handle well . Need to return I haven’t even had for 2 months :( worked great until now .

    I got a lemon but still think the brand is good

    I think I got a lemon. KitchenAid is a great brand. Had the same stand mixer for 28 years that finally went. Just ordered this one /got it. Put together and the motor seized. Changed attachments and tried again. Seized again. (With nothing in it... Straight out of the box). The return at target was very easy. I ended up getting a different model of a KitchenAid... Still think it's a good brand.

    Bowl does not stay attached to the unit. It jumps around an I have to strong arm it. I’ve used this mixer probably 10 times in 7 months and it is honestly a piece of crap. I’ve tried to reach out to Kitchenaid 4 times in the last 2 months and have not gotten any reply. I had one of the originals and it was great. I’m so disappointed. Do not recommend any longer

    worst mixer ever.

    Bought this for my mom, had to exchange the mixer 3 times, worst mixer ever. It has ruined her baking spree because of how poor this mixer is.

    Dough hook is peeling

    (This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Good unit but the enamel or paint is already peeling off the dough hook. Not sure if it was a just a defective one but it is always on properly and doesn't touch the bowl so not sure why this is happening. The 4.5 qt is just a tad small. I wish the standard size or starting size for the price we pay started at 5 qt as the standard.
