Description

I wanted to create a purple shampoo that was great for toning blondes + brunettes, that was also sulfate-free... I’ve always had a hard time finding that combo. If you like ashy tones or even pastel lavender tones, you can use this every time you shampoo. If you like neutral tones, use it only when needed to cut brass. Use this with or without The One Purple Conditioner on natural or color treated hair.

Toning time!

How to:
1. Depending on the thickness of your hair, apply a dime to quarter-sized amount of shampoo into your palm.
2. Apply to wet hair, massaging into the scalp to create a rich lather.
3. With purple shampoo you want to make sure you apply more product where you see more brass. I like to let it sit a little longer toward the top where hair is less porous and tends to be warmer in tone (2-3 min), then I let it run down through the ends where it's more porous for less time (1-2 min).
4. Rinse well and follow with conditioner or a hydrating mask.

Tip: Once your hair is toned, pause on using until you need it again. If you ever go overboard, shampoo with a clarifying shampoo + condition well.

Contains Zip-Up Technology™, our proprietary strengthening complex designed to "zip-up" split ends while targeting weak areas of the hair, smoothing the appearance of damaged cuticles and helping to protect hair from environmental stressors and color fade.

Q: Hi, our shower stall stained purple because we didn't clean it off well enough. How can we remove the stains. It is either an acrylic or fiberglass. Is the purple component ammonia based or what?

submitted by CAJ - 11 months ago
  • A: Happy to help! We can assure you that while this is very uncommon, our purple shampoo is a highly pigmented formula and it's possible for the tone to transfer to porous surfaces. We recommend trying Isopropyl alcohol or Baking Soda to remove the surface stains.

Q: I have black hair am I okay using the purple shampoo, I used it once will it be okay

submitted by - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi Lorena, thank you for your question. Just to clarify, when you say black hair, are you referring to color or texture? If you're referring to color, it will be fine. You won't see any toning effects if your hair is black but there is no harm in using it. If you're looking for something to put a purple hue to your black hair color, this will not be strong enough. If this is in regards to your natural texture, I would need to know more about you hair color and porosity to give the best possible answer! Let me know, happy to help.

submitted by erikalyn - 3 years ago
  • A: Thanks for your question! The One Purple Shampoo is for all hair types, even thin hair, looking to tone brassiness in the hair. It will not weight down your hair or make look oily. Just make sure you rinse out the shampoo thoroughly!

I have blond highlights over my natural light brown hair. The highlights have a tendency to get brassy, and this stuff works really well to take that away. I let it sit on my hair for at least five minutes or so, and it always leaves things bright and shiny again.

I had really high hopes for this shampoo because I generally really enjoy this brand. Unfortunately this shampoo left my hair feeling like a pile of tangled straw. Super drying and caused a ton of hair to fall out. Not good.

My brown hair had this unsightly gold / yellow shine to it no matter what I did ( I dyed it three times & the gold shine still wouldn’t go away!!! ) I was going to give up until I thought about toning my hair. I needed something for brown / blonde hair & I found this!!! I took a shot in the dark just getting it & using it without reading reviews, but it was the only thing that took away that gold shine!!! I feel so happy now. And 13$ isn’t bad at all. I dyed my hair last night & the shine is seriously gone and I couldn’t be more happy. Only thing is I would say it doesn’t lather well. I felt like I had to use a lot more than I should’ve just to get it to lather up and spread well. You really need a deep conditioner after this as well. It def dried/ tangled my hair more than I would’ve liked BUT it was worth the extra conditioning & it wasnt like knotted bad or anything. Thanks for saving my hair!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I feel like I have to use twice as much as I do with other shampoo because I am not able to spread it from one area to another easily. I have noticed that my hair is less brassy, my son has noticed as well and recently commented that my grey hair makes me look older! Must be working then!

I hardly ever write reviews but I just had to for this shampoo. I’ve been blonde for years, and every time I go to the salon they advise me to use purple shampoo because I was always so so brassy. I WAS using it, all different salon brands of purple shampoo, and it just never worked. So frustrating! My friend gave me this shampoo to try and I’m never using anything else. It’s more affordable than the salon purple shampoos I tried, it actually lathers, but MOST importantly: it works. I’m not brassy at all!

Solid Purple Shampoo Option

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Meets all of my expectations for a purple shampoo! My hair is blonde and has the tendency to go a bit brassy with the hard water we have. I try to always use a purple shampoo, and was excited to try out this shampoo in combination with the matching conditioner. After even a week of using it, my hair is back to its normal silver undertone shine. This shampoo doesn't lather super well, but I still feel like my hair is clean. It is lightly scented and the fragrance doesn't follow me around like a cloud. I have really enjoyed using this shampoo!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This purple shampoo helps to reduce the brasiness of my blond highlights. It smells good and foams up nicely. I have used it a few times and seems to mute any yellow or brassy hair that comes after several washings. Wish it moisturized a little more as I have dry hair.

I normally only use my purple two, maybe three times a week for normal care, I tried that with this one and I was not seeing the same bright results. I ended up having to using it everyday to see similar results.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been a fan of Kristin Ess products for quite some time now so I knew I was going to love this product when I saw it. I am a blonde, who gets highlights 3-4 times a year, therefore I tend to rely on purple products in between salons sessions. After trying this shampoo, I was so happy and pleasantly surprised. Usually, purple shampoos don't foam very well during wash and tend to leave my hair feeling dry and brittle. However, this one did the exact opposite. I felt as if I had the moisture that my hair needed and the color was back to looking fresh and new. The brasiness that existed before, had disappeared and my hair had the blonde color that it should. My husband even commented, asking if I had gotten my hair done! I give this shampoo a 10/10 and cannot wait to continue using it (....well using it as needed).

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wow! I have been using this shampoo, with its partner conditioner, and I could not be happier with the experience and results. I really feel like I am getting a personalized salon experience and I am learning a lot from the process. My hair is an ashy cool blonde and I always wear cool toned makeup and clothes. This shampoo really brings that out and eliminates brassiness. Smells great too! My mom even tried it and loves it - she has white hair with a touch of cool brown. Obsessed with this!
