Master Lock - Steel 4-Dial Combination Padlock - Steel - 1.13 in.

I’ve had 2 of these locks in 6 months and they just do not last. After a few months outdoors they will no longer work. Luckily they have both failed open and I did not need to have them cut off. I will look for another product now. Fool me twice shame on me.

I have replaced my 3rd lock in as many weeks. They got to where you can't lock them back when you can get them to open. Using them as gate lock with chain. I have been buying they for years and had the old ones last 20 years outside with oiling them once a year. Not any more if you get 30 day out of them your luck.

So I tried Master Lock - 2in (51mm) Wide Set Your Own Combination Padlock with 1in (25mm) Shackle. It works perfectly, I don’t need keys for the lock and can share the combo with others as I like. I love being gated and locked for the summer.

The number dials feel well made but the top under the hasp is plastic, so not sure how long this will last outside. It is very easy to set and change the combination.

I had trouble to find other combination locks large and strong enough to do the job. The combination wheels work smoothly and they are not visible to to a stranger when the lock is in use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used to use these combo locks on the doors of my enclosed mowing trailer for convenience. Carrying a key isn't as ideal as combo locks. Problem with this lock , or the similar grade of steel on the loop, is that if someone really wants to get in with a pair of lock cutters, it's not too hard. I had a guy try to steal my trailer and cut right through them to see what was inside. Luckily he didn't steal any backpack blowers or weedeaters, or drive the mowers out the back. But focusing on this specific newer version, let's talk about the positives. The biggest thing is the new way you set the combo, and don't have to worry about keeping tiny little keys. I would give this 5 star for this lock, if it were tougher. I don't see any 10 grade ones out there that are combo. So with that said, if it's really valuable, like your livelihood, don't trust this lock. It'll keep honest men honest, but a real crook is gonna cut this like butter. They tried getting the security off the front, and that was the best all steel brand on the market. They barely put a dent in it and moved on. Until that happened, this was the only lock I ever used on both doors. I loved them, but I could see someone using this for a lighter application. They truly are the most convenient lock out there. Now with the new technique of setting the combination, it's even more improved.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I acquired this lock to use with a chain to hold a gate closed. The shackle was large enough to fit in the chain. We needed a combination lock because there are a number of people who need access and they keep losing keys, which means I'm in constantly in the hardware store making duplicates. Now all I have to do is text them the combination if they forget, and I can change it when necessary. It is a strong lock and should hold up just fine in the weather.
