  • A: Yes, you can absolutely use coffee grounds instead of pods for a single-serve brew with the Ninja CFP101. Just remove the pod adapter, insert the grounds basket with either a permanent or paper filter, add your coffee grounds, usually about two to three tablespoons for an 8-ounce cup and select your desired size and brew style. Make sure to use a medium grind so the filter doesn’t clog, and avoid overfilling past the max line. Once you start brewing, the machine will deliver a fresh cup without needing a pod.

    Good coffee, frustrating design

    I’ve been using the Ninja DualBrew for a while now, and overall it makes great coffee. The hot and cold brew options both taste really good, and I love having the flexibility to switch between them. My only wish is that the cold brew setting dispensed a bit more coffee — it always feels a little short. My biggest complaint is the pod lid. It gets so stuck that when I try to open it, it actually lifts the whole machine off the counter and comes down with a thud. I’ve cleaned it daily and tried everything I can think of, but nothing has fixed that issue. It’s frustrating, and honestly the main reason I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 4 or 5. Great coffee, but the pod-lid design really needs improvement.

    Terrible, do not buy

    Thought we would change up our coffee maker from a Keurig to this Ninja coffee maker. The k-cup feature is absolutely garbage. We can never get a cup of coffee without coffee grounds. The maker requires cleaning frequently. A HUGE safety concern is that the pressure builds up when making a kcup and then the top pops up and hot coffee splashes everywhere. A lawsuit waiting to happen. Spend your money on something else.

    The best

    My husband recently lost his coffeemaker of a different brand, while I am permanently bound to Ninja, I convinced him to get him this one. I am happy with my PB051, and he is now happy with this one. We love the features, the coffee turns out great and it is easy to use and even easier to program.

    They could do better

    Had this for a year, switched back to Keurig. Why? There are brewing issues. First, always grounds in a full pot of coffee. I couldn’t get the balance of bold burnt tasting brew and weak coffee.. and no matter how much grounds I used, the pot always had grounds. So, I rarely used the filter and ground coffee. Second, the maker drips constantly. There’s a little slide handle to close the basket off but every time we go to brew something else we forget this is closed and it beeps loudly at us as a reminder. So much so that we’ve just stopped using the slider and constantly deal with coffee dripping everywhere. Then there’s the adapter for the k-cup pods. It works.. but the issue is the gap between the adapter and the bottom basket. So there’s always a teaspoon of whatever was last brewed in that basket.. not ideal when I drink normal coffee and my wife drinks nothing but flavored coffee. So my cups end up the lacroix of whatever she drank last unless I literally rinse both the adapter and basket between every flipping cup. It’s quite annoying. Finally, the brewer constantly seemed to get air bubbles in the system from refilling the water and I’d have to slam the unit around to work that out. For a device conceived for convenience it’s really anything but. It’s not all doom and gloom though, coffee tasted good that was brewed and the huge reservoir was nice to not have to constantly refill, I just felt between constant cleanup and rinsing it was getting old.

    Great for pods.. not sure about a full pot

    It’s great for pods. But when I use it to make a full pot of coffee.. grounds end up in my coffee. I’m using Cafe Bustello and it’s happened three times now. Idk if I should return it

    Not hot long enough

    Coffee maker is fine but our previous coffee make would keep the coffee hot literally for hours and this one doesn’t. The design is also pretty bulky. Coffee is fine just me being picky I guess.

    Do not buy

    Do not buy. Lasted just past warranty and started having problems. Weird noises and grounds in my coffee. Even with constant cleaning of the machine. Reached out the Ninja and they said nothing they could do and I would need to purchase a new one.

    Bought this just about a week ago and we have yet to figure out how to get it to brew, it’s brewing however it won’t actually brew the coffee only water comes out and it’s spraying everywhere and making a mess when we use it. Haven’t been able to figure it out at all. We bought refurbished thinking it would be fine because it was still from the company. But no. Waste of money

    Disappointed customer

    I looked at this so carefully and it was great having pod and drip sadly my drip dosent work The reason I bought this for the kcup and drip and really sticks that the kcup dosent work really wish my kcup would work I have tried every kcup that out there and sometimes when the coffee drip it’s not hot so disappointed wish my coffee.     Pod coffee maker parrot will not work. Sucks

    Good coffee maker, just don't get it for the pod coffee. It will not work. We have tried every pod possible and it's a nightmare. This was the main reason we bought thise is to be able to use regular coffe or pod coffee.

    Watered coffee

    This coffee tastes like water. It brews immensely quick, so it just tastes like water most of the time. Super disappointing. I used the reusable coffee pods for both and it tastes better with my old and super basic keurig.

    Great cup of coffee/not so great machine

    We bought this coffee maker about 3 months ago to replace my old Ninja coffee maker. I had my old one for almost 4 yrs until one it decided to just stop working. When we got this one figured it would last the same if not longer. With in the first few days it’s beeping at me telling me there is a clog. So I figure out what the issue is and fix it except now it’s “ clogged” every few pods we use. The coffee grinds back up into the needle line if we do not run a 6 oz of hot water after every few cups of coffee. I am beyond frustrated and so ready to buy a new coffee pot at this point. This n a good side it makes a very hot cup of coffee and stays hot for awhile. Just not worth the money and time for this machine.

    Great but small batch of coffee not warm

    Great design and many features, however in small batches, the coffee is not warm. I make 12 oz batch for my mug but the Intelligent warming plate heat only when making at least half of the carafe. My previous Ninja was heating all the time. After making my coffee now, I have to heat it up in the microwave.

    The best dual brew ever

    I lost my original during a house fire this past March and bought another name brand for the rental. Needless to say and bought another ninja for my new house The only thing I can say I don't like about it is I can't adjust the hot plate temperature otherwise it makes the best coffee.

    Waste of money

    My old Ninja stopped working and wasn’t covered under warranty. So I purchased a new one, it arrived yesterday and upon washing it prior to using as the instructions recommended the carafe completely shattered and cut my husbands finger. This will be the last time I purchase a Ninja. Two coffee makers in two years and both defective.

    Great Coffee Maker, Until Its Not

    This Ninja Dual Brew coffee maker replaced my old Keurig that I had over 6 years. I was really excited to find something that did so much. To be honest, it sounded way too good to be true. I purchsed this coffee maker in April 4, 2024 and just this week,approximately around September 15, 2025 it stopped making coffee. It barely id lasted 1 year and a half. I watched videos online on how to "fix" the problem, but nothing worked. I go an check the warranty and it only has 1 year warranty. I assumed I didn't need to purchase the extra warranty they offer at checkout because my other brand coffee makers lasted so long that I could not believe my eyes when I pulled up the receipt to confirm the date of purchase. Prior to its death, it was the best coffee maker I have ever owned. I loved how quick it brewed, the coffee always tastes amazing. The variety of options that were available, and the fact that I could continue to puchase KCups and not some specialty type of coffee cups. Overall, I loved this coffee maker and would rave about it to everyone that listened. Now, I am regretting all of my decisions as I can't find a solution on how to make it brew the right amount of coffee. The appliance makes a sound like it is working, and when I select my 12 ounce coffee to brew, now it brews about 4 ounces. I cleaned it all out, and nothing has worked. This issue only happens when a KCup is used, when I run it without a KCup, the water comes out at almost 12 ounces. This coffee maker is fantastic, until it's not. Overall, the quality of the product doesn't seem good, it is not build to last. Keep that in mind when selecting a product and If I could go back in time, I would have purchsed that extended warranty offered at checkout. Now I begin my search for a replacement, and I don't know if I can ever trust the Nina brand again.

    Good and...frustrating

    We have owned this machine for about 2 years. It is functional and easy to use and makes coffee quickly.... BUT... it has a few flaws! When using a pod (with the pod holder inserted) it spits coffee outside the cup on to the counter! I use a tall cup and it spits! I use a shorter cup on the pull down ledge and it spits. 2nd flaw: It is very difficult to clean the water container. The gasket (?) inside the container at the bottom gets green...as does the small corner next to it. Using the cleaning cycle does nothing to alleviate it. There is no way to clean the green stuff.
