The book is fantastic - a not so easy topic to read but so needed in the western world so as to understand the world and cultures around us.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
How far will I go for a friend? This is a question I have been recently asking myself since reading The Kite Runner. The majority of the story takes place in late 70s Afghanistan where Amir, a son of a wealthy man and Hassan a servants son become very good friends. Amir and Hassan become so close that not even a soviet invasion or years of Islamic radicalism could destroy their bond. The story is filled with surprises with a heart touching, unforgettable conclusion. Personally I would recommend The Kite Runner to 10th graders and above. There are a few scenes in the novel that get a little graphic and some scenes that are violent. The Kite Runner tells a lot more than just a story about tow Afghani boys, it shares a cultural experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. The novel sheds lessons of faith and commitment to friends and family and is now one of my favorite reads.
